Dailies on heinous intention to strangle labor movement

Pyongyang, January 8 (KCNA) -- Papers here today criticise the Kim Young Sam fascist clique for their appeasement and deception to put down the fighting spirit of the South Korean workers. The "New Korea Party", a south Korean political party of gangsters, held a "Meeting of high-ranking party officials" on January 6 and said that it "Would work out laws for support of working people" together with the "Government" with which to "calm down" The angry workers and that it would meet with the hardcore unionists and urge them to "Discontinue strikes". The analyst of Rodong Sinmun charges that this is one more reactionary offensive designed to threaten the workers and intensify fascist suppression of them and, at the same time, appease them so as to put down their massive struggle and enforce the cursed labor laws at any cost. The traitorous Kim Young Sam clique seek in the double- dealing tactics to get rid of the worsening political and economic crisis and achieve "Security of power", the commentary adds. Minju Joson in a commentary says that the Kim Young Sam group should not resort to the double-dealing tactics aimed at blocking the strikes of the workers calling for the withdrawal of the evil laws, but nullify them.

Rodong Sinmun berates S. Korean puppets for escalating confrontation with north

Pyongyang, January 8 (KCNA) -- The Kim Young Sam group of South Korea let military bosses inspect puppet army posts in frontline areas in the demilitarized zone at the beginning of the year, crying for "preparedness for combat" and "full combat posture". This comes under fire in Rodong sinmun today. The fact clearly indicates that they are seeking a way out of the crisis in unleashing a fratricidal war against the north with the backing of outsiders. The South Korean puppets, clamouring about the north's "possible provocation", have vowed to increase the "capacity of landing operation" and the "capacity of retaliating on the north". Their reckless military moves stem from their serious ruling crisis. If they provoke a war against the north, we will annihilate all of them. We mean what we say.

Pres. Kim Il Sung's revolutionary exploits will shine long

Pyongyang, January 8 (KCNA) -- Whenever I visit Korea, the yearning for the great leader president Kim Il Sung grows stronger, secretary general Giancarlo Elia Valori of the Italian Institute of International Relations said. He is the first foreigner to visit Korea this year as he was last year. He said: History does not know such a leader as the great President Kim Il Sung, who worked for the prosperity of the country and the happiness of the people throughout his life. He liberated the Korean people from the Japanese imperialists' Colonial rule and exalted the dignity of the Korean nation. His greatest exploit is the foundation of the immortal juche idea. The idea, whose truth, originality and vitality have been proved in practice, is the guiding idea of the workers' party of Korea and the Korean people. He resolved all the problems arising in the revolutionary struggle by moving the minds of the popular massess. The respected general Kim Jong Il is now developing and enriching the idea. All the Korean people and the whole army are pushing ahead with socialist construction with the unshakable faith in victory and optimism, rallied close around comrade supreme commander Kim Jong Il. The president's idea and exploits shine long thanks to comrade Kim Jong Il.

S. Korea rocked by anti-"Government" protests

Pyongyang, January 8 (KCNA) -- The massive protests of South Korean people including workers which were sparked by the railroading of the reactionary "amendment bills on labor affairs and the agency for national security planning" have further developed into an anti-"Government" struggle. The "Korean Confederation of Trade Unions", known as Minju Rochong, called a press conference immediately after the Kim Young Sam group rammed the evil laws through the "National assembly". It declared that it would start indefinite general strikes and they would continue until the "laws" are repealed. Some 5,500 unions under another labor group, the "Federation of Korean Trade Unions", have been on general strikes against the amendment. As of January 7, more than 220,000 workers of 200 unions under the umbrella of Minju Rochong were taking part in the strikes. The Minju Rochong chairman, Kwon Yong Gil, warned at a press conference on tuesday that if the "Government" continued a tough policy towards the strikes, Minju Rochong would continue the general strikes as scheduled and workers of subway and public sector unions would go on strikes earlier. That day the fascist clique decided to arrest some 30 leading unionists including kwon Yong gil on charge of their "principal role" in the strikes. Angered by this, about 100 cadres of big business unions throughout South Korea categorically rejected the prosecution's first summons, vowing to continue the strikes.

Human rights violations in S. Korea condemned

Pyongyang, January 8 (KCNA) -- The International Committee of Jurists for Democracy and Human Rights in South Korea made public an indictment on December 30 disclosing human rights violations in South Korea. The indictment accused the South Korean authorities of cracking down upon the protesters against the revision of the "labour law" and beefing up the intelligence agency for repression by applying the "national security law". It also disclosed the reactionary nature of "democracy" advertized by the "civilian government" and human rights violations in South Korea.

Development of taehongdan county integrated farm

Pyongyang, January 8 (KCNA) -- Taehongdan county in Ryanggang province is a well-known place, in which a state farm of all-people ownership with a county as the unit was built for the first time in Korea. The county is on the mt. Paektu plateau, more than 1,100 metres high above sea level, in the northeastern part of the mt. Paektu lava ground which is 400 kilometres long from the north to the south and 240 kilometres wide from the east to the west, around mt. Paektu, the holy mountain of the revolution. Before the liberation (August 1945), there were only thick forest and some patches cultivated by fire-field farmers. The farm was founded in July 1952 when Korea was in the thick of war. At that time, the great leader President Kim Il Sung, with a far-sighted plan to turn the vast mt. Paektu plateau into a fertile area, saw to it that state integrated farm no. 5 (the predecessor of the present farm) was founded. The president gave on-site guidance to the farm on several occasions and gave it highly important teachings hundreds of times, so as to indicate the orientation and ways for the farm's development in a concrete way. Over the past 40 odd years since it was founded, the farm has taken on a wonderful look. Cultivated area increased to 10,000 hectares and a 1,400 km-long shelter-belt was made on the farm. Wheat, barley, potato, vicia and other crops grow on the well-shaped fields. All farming processes from ploughing and sowing to harvesting and threshing are all mechanized. Each farmer is in charge of 30 hectares of arable land. Stockbreeding bases and local industrial foundations have been built creditably on the farm. Modernly-built dwelling houses, schools, hospitals, kindergartens and welfare service facilities are seen in residential quarters. The farm has built five medium- and small-sized power stations on its own. The electric output is more than enough to meet the demand of the county.
