Letter-carrying relay starts
Pyongyang, January 16 (KCNA) -- Relay groups carrying
letters of loyalty to the great leader comrade Kim Jong Il
have started one after another from across the country to
celebrate his 55th birthday.
A starting ceremony of the youth and children's relay
group was held in front of comrade Kim Jong Il's native home
in the secret camp on mt. Paektu in northeastern part of
Korea, before the relay group departed with a letter
carrying loyalty of the eight million youths and children.
Present there were Choe Ryong Hae, first secretary of the
C.C., the Kim Il Sung socialist youth league, and Ri kil
Song, chief secretary of the Ryanggang provincial party
committee and chairman of the Ryanggang provincial people's
committee.
Meanwhile, the South HamGyong provincial people's relay
group, which took over a letter of loyalty from people in
North HamGyong province, is running toward Pyongyang.
Earlier to it, relay groups carrying the letters of
loyalty of the Korean people's army officers and men started
from height 1211 in kangwon province known as a heroic
height, rajin in North HamGyong province and samjiyon in
Ryanggang province. They are running towards Pyongyang amid
the warm welcome of people and servicemen in different
places.
Oecd secy-gen. Denounces S. Korea's amended "labour laws"
Pyongyang, January 16 (KCNA) -- The secretary general of
the organization for economic cooperation and development
(oecd) published a statement on January 11 denouncing the
kim Young Sam group's amendment to the "Labour laws", said a
radio report from Seoul.
In the statement he declared he would examine the evil
laws, saying the laws are not recognized internationally.
Letters to universities in S. Korea
Pyongyang, January 16 (KCNA) -- Universities in the
northern half of Korea sent letters to univeristies in the
south in support of the massive struggle of South Korean
workers and people against the Kim Young Sam group's
amendments to the "Law on the agency for national security
planning" and "Labour laws".
In the name of student committees, Kim Il Sung
university wrote to Korea and yonsei universities,
kim Hyong Jik university of education to chosun university,
kim Chaek university of technology to chonnam national
university, and Kumgang university to mokpo university.
The letters said the "Civilian-veiled" Kim Young Sam
fascist group's enactment of the amendment bills revealed
once again their peerless deception and shamelessness. It is
no more than their last-ditch efforts to maintain his
remaining term of office, they added.
They stressed that students in the north and the south
should launch a vigorous joint struggle in support of the
South Korean workers' strikes and bring earlier a new
victory.
South Korean family comes over to north
Pyongyang, January 16 (KCNA) -- A south Korean Kuh Chol
Jung (36) and his wife Ryu Kyong Ok (33) came over to the
north with their son Kuh Jin Su (7) and daughter
kuk Su Jong (3).
Kuh Chol Jung was born in ryesan county, South Chungchong
province, and served in the South Korean puppet army before
he was engaged in manufacture of lighting equipment from
1989.
His wife was born in Seoul and worked together with her
husband after graduating from Sung.hin women's university.
Referring to the motive of his defection, Kuh said that
he could no longer live in South Korea, a corrupt Colonial
society in which the independence of the nation is trampled
down and fascism holds sway.
"I was convinced that the only way for my family is to
come over to the north in which the popular masses form a
great harmonious family and lead a true life under the
leadership of the respected general Kim Jong Il," he said.
Rash act of keeping facts from the public
Pyongyang, January 16 (KCNA) -- Recently the Kim Young
sam group threatened to "Take a legal action" against those
who see the North Korean "Home page" of the internet,
distribute it to other people and tell what they saw, and
are trying to enact a "Law" in this regard.
Rodong sinmun today, commenting on this, says that the
act is a fit of persecution mania of the traitors doomed to
ruin. The analyst goes on:
To pursue a progressive idea, follow a world-famous great
man and sympathise with a superior social system is an
intrinsic need of a human being. And it is an inalienable
independent right.
In view of national reconciliation and reunification,
it should be regarded as fortunate that the South Korean
students and people can see, through the internet, and
admire the realities of the northern half of Korea where the
great juche idea is carried into practice.
The Kim Young Sam group talk about "Danger" and "Side
effects" of the "Home page".
Lurking behind their ridiculous utterances is a criminal
intention.
They are trying to suppress the students and people
aspiring after independence, democracy and reunification on
the charges of "Pro-communism" as they brutally cracked down
upon the South Korean students in the august 15 struggle for
reunification last year, branding them as "Pro-north,
violent and enemy-benefiting forces".
With any threat and suppression the Kim Young Sam group
cannot keep the South Korean people from following the great
juche idea and longing for the northern half of Korea.
S. Korean believers urged to join in workers' struggle
Pyongyang, January 16 (KCNA) -- The Korean religionists
council sent a letter to religious organizations and
believers in South Korea regarding the massive strike
launched by workers and other people against the Kim Young
Sam group's amendments to "Laws on the agency for national
security planning and labour affairs" in South Korea.
The letter describes the "New Korea party's" railroading
of the amendment bills on "ANSP" and "Labour affairs" as
fascist arbitrariness massively violating even elementary
democracy and as something like a political coup
unprecedented in world history of legislation.
Struggle of the South Korean workers and other people
demanding nullification of these fascist laws is only too
natural, the letter says.
The letter voiced full support and solidarity for the
catholic, christian, buddhist and other religious
organizations and conscientious believers of South Korea
that actively join in the struggle for repeal of the laws.
It expressed the hope that they would not turn blind eyes
and remain an onlooker to the situation of South Korean
society, but solidarize with the workers' struggle so as to
stand as pioneers in this just struggle.

740,000 people under 2,000 labour unions throughout South
Korea Wednesday staged the largest struggle for repeal of
evil laws in South Korea.

ardent love for Young people.

are arming themselves more thoroughly with the revolutionary
idea of the great leader president Kim Il Sung.
Minju joson comes out with an article headlined "Korean-
style socialism is invincible one with eternal vitality".
Rodong sinmun carries the news that Kuh Chol Jung came
over to the northern half of Korea from South Korea together
with his family.
Seen in the paper is the gists of letters sent by the
Korean religionists council and universities in northern
half of Korea to South Korean religious
organizations, believers and universities regarding the
massive struggle of the South Korean workers and other
people for repeal of evil laws.
Spotlighted in papers are commentaries voicing support to
the decision made by the South Korean confederation of trade
unions and the "Federation of Korean trade unions" to take a
joint step in the struggle for repeal of evil laws.
Rodong sinmun comments on the South Korean puppets'
suppression of those who read North Korea's "Home page" in
the internet.
In a semi-monthly review of the South Korean situation,
the paper says the South Korean people's struggle against
the Kim Young Sam group's misrule will further expand and
get momentum.
Minju joson in a commentary stresses that Japan should
liquidate the past without delay.
Unprecedented-in-scope strike in S. Korea
Pyongyang, January 16 (KCNA) -- Upwards of 700,000
workers of 2,000 trade unions of big businesses went on an
unprecedented-in-scope strike throughout South Korea for the
withdrawal of the evil laws on January 15, a radio report
from seoul said.
The "Korean confederation of trade unions" sponsored a
rally with the attendance of more than 30,000 workers in
seoul to win a victory in the general strike and strongly
called for the withdrawal of the recently-revised "Labor
laws" and the dismantling of the "New Korea party."
At the end of the rally the participants took to the
streets to hold a demonstration.
The "Federation of Korean trade unions" sponsored a rally
of more than 20,000 unionists for the withdrawal of the
revised "Labor laws" at the youido square and marched
through streets up to the office building of the "New Korea
party." it declared that it would continue its struggle
until the withdrawal of the "Labor laws".
On the same day, the Kwangju-south jolla provincial
headquarters of the "Korean confederation of trade unions"
and the Kwangju city branch of the "Federation of Korean
trade unions" held a rally attended by more than 10,000
working people, citizens and students to stage the third-
stage strike and called for the nullification of the "Labor
laws" and the "Law on the agency for national security
planning".
That day, 536 professors of chonnam national university,
chosun university, Kwangju university and two other
universities in Kwangju and south jolla province, 25
professors of sangji college in wonju and 19 professors of a
theological College in jonju released a statement.
The statement calls for the withdrawal of the anti-
democratic laws and says that they will fight together with
workers until the democratic remaking of the evil laws.
Righteous step for joint struggle
Pyongyang, January 16 (KCNA) -- Chairmen of the South
Korean confederation of trade unions and the "Federation of
Korean trade unions" held a one-to-one meeting, at which
they released a joint statement clarifying their resolution
to jointly carry on the struggle until the evil laws
railroaded by the fascist clique are repealed. This is a
sign of further strengthening of South Korean labour
movement, says the press here today.
Rodong sinmun in a commentary praises it as a natural
step which is based on the lesson that the working class
should firmly get united in the same ranks transcending isms
and political views, in order to win a victory in the
struggle for democratic rights, freedom and the right to
existence. The news analyst says:
Both labour organizations have a stake in the
struggle to defend workers' rights and interests.
Their decision to launch a joint struggle is praiseworthy
and things should go that way.
With repeal of the fascist laws and overthrow of the
traitorous "Government" as their goal, they should
decisively wage a joint struggle until the ultimate victory.
A news analyst of Minju joson says:
Only when the South Korean workers dynamically wage a
joint struggle and solidarity struggle at all businesses,
occupations and regions, closely rallied around independent
democratic labour unions, can they further demonstrate their
united might and materialize their demand.
Preparations in bulgaria to celebrate birthday of
secy. Kim Jong Il
Pyongyang, January 16 (KCNA) -- A preparatory committee
for celebrating the 55th birthday of the great leader
comrade Kim Jong Il was inaugurated in bulgaria.
The inaugural meeting was held in sofia on Jan. 6.
George stoyanov, chairman of the bulgaria-Korea
friendship association, was elected chairman of the
committee at the meeting.
January and Feburary were set as a celebration period and
the action program was adopted at the meeting.
Stoyanov said in his speech that comrade Kim Jong Il is
the great leader who is revered by the world progressive
humankind as well as the Korean people. He added that he
would make every effort to organise all the events in a
sincere way during the period.
Boris petkov, chairman of the executive council of the
central committee of the bulgarian communist party
(marxists), said that it is a bounden duty of the communists

Japan urged to atone for past crime
Pyongyang, January 16 (KCNA) -- Japan should make an
official state apology for its past crimes and as much
compensation as is acceptable to the Korean people,
reiterates Minju joson in a signed commentary today.
Japan's fleeing from the legal and moral responsibility
and refusing to atone for the many past crimes invites
bitter condemnation from the unbiased public opinion of the
world and gives rise to the escalation of the resentment of
the Korean people against Japan and of hostility between the
DPRK and Japan, the analyst says, and goes on:
The improved relationship between the two countries is
unthinkable without Japan's atonement for the past crimes.
It is the height of impudence for the Japanese
authorities to talk about "Preconditions", regarding it as a
unilateral "Present" to normalise the diplomatic relations
between the two countries.
The atonement for the crimes the Japanese imperialists
committed in the first half of the century can never be left
to next century.
The Japanese authorities should be mindful that the
longer they refuse to atone for the past crimes, the heavier
their responsibility will be.
Development of stockbreeding in Korea
Pyongyang, January 16 (KCNA) -- The democratic people's
republic of Korea is directing efforts to the development of
stockbreeding.
Rural communities across the country are breeding many
grass-eating domestic animals such as cattle, goat and
sheep, in hearty response to the workers' party of Korea's
livestock policy on developing stockbreeding on the
principle of obtaining meat from grass.
According to data available, last year witnessed an
increase of 300,000 goats and other grass-eating domestic
animals. The area of newly-built cattle sheds has expanded
to above 300,000 square metres and roads to pastures across
the country extend to a length of more than 3,200
kilometres.
South HamGyong province in the eastern part of
the country has taken the lead in making grass fields on a
large scale and breeding many grass-eating animals.
The province has over 1,200 workteams and sub-workteams
specialized in stockbreeding.
Last year it found out 270,000 hectares of grass fields
and built more than 600 blocks of sheds for goats and 600-km
roads to pastures.
It has opened up vistas for increasing the number of
goats and other domestic animals twice this year by
breeding them well to suit the physiological characters of
animals and climate condition.
Sinchon, sinwon and other counties in south hwanghae
province created 8,200 hectares of grass fields and found
30,000 hectares of grass fields last year.
On cooperative farms in the province 78 workteams and 800
odd sub-workteams are now breeding goats.
They recorded an increase of nearly 20,000 goats last
year.
Recently, the state took a step for launching an all-
people animal-breeding movement and the agricultural
commission expanded the department in charge of
stockbreeding.
International labour leaders reject S. Korean puppet
clique's threat
Pyongyang, January 16 (KCNA) -- The international labour
leaders who are visiting South Korea to show solidarity
with strikers on Wednesday called a news conference to
reject the South Korean puppet clique's threats, according
to a reuter report from Seoul.
They accused the puppet clique of trying to expel them
from South Korea. They said that they have never experienced
in their trade union life that kind of government authority
interfering in their stay and business.
They noted that they have not violated any law and warned
that Seoul would pay a price for any repressive measures.
According to a yonhap report from Seoul, delegates from
the Asian and pacific regional organisation of the
international confederation of free trade unions on Jan. 15
issued a press statement in Seoul urging the Kim Young Sam
group to withdraw the "Labour laws".
The statement warned that the "Government's" arrest of
any trade unionist will lead to the intensification of
international trade union action and issued a three-point
demand starting with the withdrawal of the "Labour laws" and
prevention of the arrest of trade unionists.
kim Young sam's planned visit to Japan condemned
Pyongyang, January 16 (KCNA) -- The spokesman for the
Korean Asia-pacific peace committee issued a statement today
in connection with the traitor Kim Young sam's visit to
Japan for "Summit talks" on Japan-South Korea relations
slated for late this month. The statement says:
The traitor Kim Young Sam is a political charlatan who
has been forsaken by the South Korean people as well as the
world public for his hostile attitude toward fellow
countrymen since he took office as "Civilian president."
It is known to the world that he is visiting Japan in a
bid to seek a way of remaining in power at any cost till his
term expires.
It is obvious what he will do during his visit to Japan.
People around the world have continuously rendered
humanitarian assistance to the DPRK, which was hit by
natural disasters repeatedly.
The traitor Kim Young Sam has not only ignored the fellow
countrymen in the north suffering damage but banned South
Korean people from rendering compatriotic assistance to
them.
Worse still, he has asked other countries to give no
humanitarian aid to the north.
It is apparent that he will make such a request
during his Japan tour.
According to South Korea's yonhap news agency, the South
Korean puppet ambassador to Japan has visited Japanese
politicians in the hope of keeping Japan from providing rice
to the north or resuming talks for the normalization of
relations with the north.
No matter how zealously the traitor, who has had no
negotiations with the north during his term of office for
his blackest crimes against the nation, may resort to
solicitation diplomacy, nobody will lend an ear to the
traitor, who has obstructed even a humanitarian assistance.
If there is anyone who sides with him, he will be
bitterly condemned by the Korean nation and the world
progressive people as inhumane.
