Letters to peasants and pressmen in s. Korea

Pyongyang, January 20 (KCNA) -- Public organizations in the northern half of Korea have expressed support to workers and other people of south Korea in the struggle against the retrogressive amendment of the "law on the agency for national security planning" and "labour law". The central committee of the union of agricultural working people of Korea sent a letter to the south Korean peasants, which said: The south Korean puppet clique have unsheathed the sword of fascism against workers and other people in the strike. This is no more than a last-ditch effort to save the "government" from the serious crisis, shuffling off upon the people the responsibility for political unrest and overall economic bankruptcy caused by their dependent economic policy and anti-social rule. The letter expressed the belief that the south Korean peasants will join workers in the struggle for the withdrawal of the fascist laws and overthrow the "civilian- veiled" Kim Young Sam fascist clique, who have cut off the lifeline of the peasants by totally opening domestic rice market to outsiders, and surely win the democratic freedom and vital rights. The central committee of the Korean journalists union, in a letter to the pressmen in south Korea, called upon them to make a positive contribution to achieving national reconciliation and the peaceful reunification of the country as well as to the righteous struggle of the south Korean workers. The letter expressed the expectation that they will sternly expose and condemn the anti-national, anti- reunification moves of the Kim Young Sam "government" and fully support the workers' struggle for social democracy and human dignity and rights.

The letters accused the Kim Young Sam group of railroading amendment bills on the "labor laws" and "law on the agency for national security planning" through "parliament" during a clandestine session of assemblymen from the "New Korea Party" only. South Korean workers have turned out in the struggle to nullify the evil laws, said the letters. The letters appealed to international, regional and national trade unions, which love justice and truth, to express firm support to and solidarity with the struggle of south Korean workers and trade unions for the repeal of the "labor laws" and "law on the agency for national security planning", regarding it as their own struggle.

Review of Rodong Sinmun

Pyongyang, January 20 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today frontpages a report that the great leader comrade Kim Jong Il sent thanks to units for having distinguished themselves in carrying out revolutionary tasks. It gives an account of a meeting held in mongolia to form a preparatory committee for celebrating his 55th birthday. It carries news that papers of nigeria and india devote much space to articles praising him highly. "let us make general advance in the spirit of 'arduous march'" is the title of a Rodong Sinmun political essay. It runs an article headlined "undying work brightly indicating the path of literature in the age of independence" to commemorate the fifth anniversary of comrade Kim Jong Il's famous work "Juche-based theory of literature". Highlighted in the first page of the paper is news of south Korean people's struggle including a grand forum of the people on the emergency situation calling for nullification of the "labor laws" and "law on the agency for national security planning" and a rally and demonstration held by more than 1,500 students of the south Korean federation of university student councils. The paper informs the readers that public organisations in the northern half of Korea sent letters to international and national trade unions calling upon them to express full support and solidarity for the struggle of the south Korean workers and trade unions, the world federation of trade unions issued an appeal and sent a letter to the "Korean confederation of trade unions" and an international labor union organisation and political parties and organisations of many countries expressed solidarity for the struggle. The paper in a commentary says that the "labor laws" recently revised by the Kim Young Sam group are anti-social, reactionary fascist ones for a handful of comprador privileged clans. It runs an article denouncing the traitor Kim Young Sam for the retrogressive revision of the "labor laws" and "law on the ansp". It comes out with a commentary flailing the close tieup of the U.S. And Japan over the nuclear issue. Poll says no to amended "laws" in s. Korea

Pyongyang, January 20 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today comments on an opinion poll conducted by south Korea's confederation of trade unions among people of various social strata through an institute of public opinion. The results of the poll indicated that 85 percent of the pollees voiced objection to the retrogressive revision of the "labor law" and the "law on the agency for national security planning" by the Kim Young Sam group. This clearly shows that the south Korean people unanimously oppose the amended evil laws and the suppression of workers by the fascist clique, the daily says, adding: it is only too right that the south Korean workers and people have risen up in the struggle against the Kim Young sam group, who are trying to impose political non-right, harder toil and untold hardships in their life upon them. In protest against the amended "laws", such workers as Jong Jae Song and Ri Yong Sik attempted to burn themselves to death and a hospital nurse Kim Jong Sun committed suicide by taking poison, offering a clear evidence that the south Korean people's resentment at Kim Young Sam's misrule has reached its climax. The poll fully mirrored such public feelings. The fascist clique must promptly repeal the anti-social laws, rejected not only by the south Korean people but by the world people, and step down without delay.

U.S.-Japan secret agreement made public

Pyongyang, January 20 (KCNA) -- The Japanese Yomiuri Shimbun recently made public the U.S. Deployment of nuclear weapons on Okinawa in 1958 and a Japan-U.S. secret agreement on their reintroduction and the use of nuclear weapons against Korea and China. Rodong Sinmun today says the fact bespeaks that the U.S.- Japan nuclear tieup has long been promoted and they have gone ahead with preparations for a nuclear war, regarding Korea and other Asian nations as targets of nuclear attack. What the Japanese reactionaries really want is to reinvade Asia even with the help of nuclear weapons, Rodong Sinmun says, and continues: In recent years they developed a long-range nuclear warhead carrier rocket and are now putting it in full-scale production. Meanwhile, the united states has turned Japan into a nuclear attack base in return for conniving at Japan's nuclear armament. Such a nuclear tieup between the two countries has gravely threatened the peace and security of Asia and the world. The U.S. And Japanese reactionaries have targeted Korea and other Asian nations as those they intend to attack with nuclear weapons. The Japanese reactionaries, oblivious of the nuclear holocaust Japan suffered by the U.S. attack, are persistently seeking to turn Japan into a nuclear power. By doing so, they are inviting another nuclear disaster by themselves. Japan's choice should not be to seek nuclear armament and reinvasion but to give up the adventurous nuclear design and seek peace. The Japanese reactionaries must act with discretion, mindful that the nuclear armament will bring themselves to ruin.

Let us make general advance in spirit of "arduous march"

Pyongyang, January 20 (KCNA) -- Let us vigorously advance, breaking through difficulties and ordeals. This is the mettle and stamina of the revolutionary spirit of Mt. Paektu, the spirit of the "arduous march", and is a profound essence of our present march. Rodong Sinmun stresses this today in a political essay titled "let us make general advance in spirit of 'arduous march'". Recalling that the political, economic and military blockade by the imperialist allied forces to isolate, suffocate and stifle the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the bulwark of socialism, is continuing ceaselessly, the political essay says: to turn the present adversity into favourable conditions and valiantly advance toward the final victory is our strategy and tactics, the philosophy of life and victory and the spirit of the present "arduous march". Defending the headquarters at the risk of life is the noble meaning and highest aim of the "arduous march". We should defend the headquarters of the revolution at the risk of our lives in the spirit of the "arduous march", braving difficulties for our inviolable life, socialist life and the victory of the revolution. A period of a great revolutionary upsurge in which drums of revolution resound in the spirit of the "arduous march", the highest spirit of creation, will impend and our "arduous march" will be crowned with victory. The spirit of the "arduous march" is the supreme revolutionary optimism. There is no one who can match those who are ready to die. Let us see who laughs at the last moment excl. This is the faith and mind of the ranks of our "arduous march" and the supreme revolutionary optimism. The spirit of the "arduous march" -- valiant attack, breaking through difficulties, continuous creation and advance toward the final victory full of optimism -- is the revolutionary spirit of our general Kim Jong Il. The great leader comrade Kim Jong Il, he is the supreme incarnation of the great spirit of attack, the spirit of creation, the spirit of victory of our heroic "arduous march". The present "arduous march" is a heroic and epic advance which is impossible without the revolutionary spirit, mettle and grit of our general.

Foreign ministry spokesman on Hebron agreement

Pyongyang, January 20 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the DPRK foreign minisory gave an answer to a question put by KCNA today in connection with the recently concluded agreement on the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Hebron. The answer is as follows: We consider the Hebron agreement, which was signed between palestine and Israel on January 15, to be a positive contribution to settling the Palestinian problem and promoting the mid-east peace process which is at a standstill. Our position towards the mid-east problem has been well known. We hold that the problem should be settled in a fair and comprehensive way on the basis of the U.N. Resolutions and the "land-for-peace principle" and, to this end, the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people including the right to foundation of an independent state should be restored and Israel should withdraw from golan heights and southern lebanon and other Arab territories. We will always keep a sharp eye on the efforts of peoples in the middle east to achieve regional peace.
