Letters to S. Korean religious orgs.

Pyongyang, January 27 (KCNA) -- The Central Committee of the Korean Roman Catholics Association on January 26 sent letters to the "Central Council of Korean Catholics", the "National Roman Catholic Priests Group for the Realisation of Justice" and the "National Council of Korean Roman Catholic Laymen and Apostles" in South Korea in support of the righteous struggle of South Korean Roman Catholic organisations and believers for the nullification of the "Labour Law" and the "Law on the Agency for National Security Planning" railroaded through "parliament" by the fascist clique. It is only too natural that South Korean Roman Catholic organisations and believers declared that they would never obey the evil laws and are valiantly rising up in the righteous struggle for their nullification shoulder to shoulder with public figures, the letters said, adding: "We, in the name of all the Roman Catholics in the Northern half of Korea, extend positive encouragement to the Roman Catholic clergymen and fellow believers in South Korea." The letters expressed the expectation that the Roman Catholic organisations and believers in South Korea would more powerfully wage their righteous struggle in firm unity with the people from other social standings until the fascist laws are repealed and the Kim Young Sam group, the incarnation of evil, are ousted from power.

Letters to foreign religious orgs.

Pyongyang, January 27 (KCNA) -- The Central Committee of the Korean Roman Catholics Association sent letters to religious organisations in the United States, Japan, Russia and other countries in connection with the fact that South Korean workers and other people are valiantly fighting in demand of the nullification of the fascist "Labour Law" and the "Law on the Agency for National Security Planning" and the resignation of the Kim Young Sam regime. Pointing out that the retrogressively revised laws aimed at ruthlessly trampling underfoot the democratic freedom and elementary vital rights of people can on no account be justified, the letters said: "South Korean workers and other people are waging a valiant struggle on an unprecedented scale for the repeal of the fascist laws and the resignation of the Kim Young Sam regime, a struggle which was zealously joined by Roman Catholic organisations, clergymen and believers in South Korea. "If the realities of South Korea in which evil holds sway and injustice is prevalent are overlooked, it cannot be said that Roman Catholics fully perform their mission and obligation as apostles of justice and peace." The letters expressed the expectation that foreign religious organisations would extend active support and encouragement to the South Korean people and Roman Catholic organisations in their struggle against the group of fascists and intensify international protests against the Kim Young Sam "government".

News of struggle in S. Korea

Pyongyang, January 27 (KCNA) -- The "Korean Confederation of Trade Unions" and the "Federation of Korea Trade Unions" jointly held large-scale rallies at once in Seoul, Pusan, Ulsan, Kwangju and six other cities of South Korea on January 26 demanding the re-amendment of the fascist laws, a Seoul-based radio report said. At the rally held in Seoul the two organisations strongly demanded the "government" and the ruling party apologize the secretive railroading of the "Laws on Labour Affairs and the Agency for National Security Planning" and call those responsible for it to task. They urged the Kim Young Sam fascist clique to stop the suppression of the strikers and reamend the "Labour Laws" till March 1. Otherwise, they will go on the fourth-stage general strikes, they stressed. They vowed to conduct the 10 million signature-collecting campaign against the "New Korea Party" till the day. The "Korean Confederation of Trade Unions" called a press conference at the headquarters in Seoul on January 25, at which it demanded the puppet authorities stop the suppression of the trade union leaders.

Revolutionary spirit of self-reliance

Pyongyang, January 27 (KCNA) -- The Workers' Party of Korea and the government of the DPRK called upon the Korean people to make a new revolutionary advance in socialist construction in high-pitched revolutionary spirit of self-reliance this year, too. Self-reliance is a revolutionary banner which always leads the Korean people to victory. Self-reliance is a fighting spirit and revolutionary way peculiar to the Korean people. With this revolutionary spirit they surmount all difficulties by their own efforts. And carry out their revolutionary tasks without fail through creation and quest. The Korean people have consistently maintained this spirit of self-reliance in the whole course of the protracted and arduous revolutionary struggle. President Kim Il Sung successfully pioneered the Korean revolution, holding high the banner of Juche from the first days of his activities. He always said that self-reliance is the only way for communists to win and led the Korean people to work in the spirit of self-reliance. Thanks to the spirit of self-reliance and hard struggle instilled by the President, the Korean people have been able to make victory after victory at all times, pulling through obstacles and difficulties cropping up in the way of their advance. The war (June 1950-July 1953) started by the U.S. imperialists destroyed everything and reduced korea to ashes. Then, the enemy prattled that korea would not rise again even in 100 years. The Korean people, though empty-handed, rehabilitated the economy and effected the great Chollima upsurge under the motto of self-reliance. They successfully carried out socialist industrialisation in a matter of 14 years and built a powerful socialist state of Juche which is independent, self-supporting and self-reliant in national defence. In recent years, the imperialists and the reactionaries have become undisguised in their moves to stifle the DPRK and great obstacles and difficulties have been created in economic construction with the collapse of the world socialist market. Even under this situation, the Korean people are stepping up socialist construction without any wavering. This year they will demonstrate the might of the Korean-style socialism by braving all obstacles and difficulties in the spirit of self-reliance and "arduous march" and making a new advance on all fronts of socialist construction.

Japan's government apology, compensation urged

Pyongyang, January 27 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today comments on the Japanese Tokyo Shimnun's making public a classified document on more than 6,000 Koreans the Japanese imperialists killed by mobilizing an army cavalry regiment when the Kanto quake occured in 1923. How they slaughtered Korean people at that time has been well known, the daily says, and continues: The massacre was justified by a false propaganda that Koreans poisoned wells to kill Japanese and committed arson. Japanese servicemen and police stroke, stabbed, hung and burnt to death any Koreans whom they happened to meet. The Japanese reactionaries have admitted the death of Koreans at that time but denied the government's partaking of the massacre. With the secret document made public, they can no longer deny the fact. The Japanese reactionaries' crimes against the Korean people are immeasurable. During the four decades of their illegal Korean occupation, the Japanese imperialists drafted some six million Koreans for the war of aggression and labor and killed one million of them brutally. They also destroyed or took to Japan Korea's wealth and, worse still, tried to erase the Korean nation. The Japanese authorities have claimed that the "comfort women for the army" crime was committed by individuals, not by the government. This is a mean trick to cover up Japan's past crimes and flee from the responsibility for them. The Japanese government must admit, apologize and compensate for all the crimes against the Korean people.
