DPRK Foreign Ministry spokesman on Japan's position towards TMD system

Pyongyang, February 28 (KCNA) -- The spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea today responded to a question of KCNA over Japan's position towards the Theatre Missile Defense (TMD) system, which endangers the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula and the Asian region. He said: Recently, the Vice Minister of the Defence Agency of Japan, commenting on a U.S. media report that Japan would not participate in the establishment of the TMD system now under discussion between the United States and Japan, said that there cannot be such a decision at present. His remarks means that Japan would continue accelerating the TMD system. His insistence on the reckless TMD system in defiance of the continued opposition by the DPRK and other neigbhours, clearly shows again what Japan really wants. As was already reported, the TMD system has been prompted by the Japanese conservatives' dangerous military plan to push ahead with military modernization with the help of U.S. military technology, groundlessly charging the DPRK with "possible missile attack". The Japanese authorities' persistently seeking arms buildup reveals their real intention to convert the country into a military power at the risk of wrecking the peace and stability of the region. It is public understanding that the TMD system, the U.S. and Japanese conservatives invented only for their egoistical goal, does so harm but not any good. If Japan continues going ahead with the scheme, the military buildup and arms race will be inevitably facilitated in northeast Asia. The Japanese authorities had better ponder over the grave consequences to be entailed by their act threatening the peace and security of the region.
