U.S. Defense secretary threatens s. Korea over arms deal
Pyongyang, April 10 (KCNA) -- U.S. Defense secretary William Cohen threatened south Korea over its arms deal with Russia, according to a news report.
He warned that if south Korea purchased "S-300" anti-aircraft missile system from Russia, the "military ties" between south Korea and the United States would be endangered.
He said Russia, which badly needs money, has apparently wanted south Korea to buy its ground-to-air missiles at a very low price.
If south Korea got Russian-made weapons, it would invite antipathy from the U.S. Congress, he said. From the political point of view, it would be much more favorable for south Korea to purchase U.S.-made missiles.
It was the first time the U.S. Defense secretary made a warning and hinted antipathy from the U.S. Congress over south Korea's arms deal with Russia.
According to Itar-Tass, a member of the Russian State Duma said on April 7, "Cohen's warning proved political pressure on Seoul", and that the United States is resorting to such political pressure in the hope of restricting Russia's arms sale to Asia-Pacific nations.
A U.S. Defense assistant secretary already voiced strong objection to the south Korean puppets' arms deal with Russia and a recent editions of the U.S. magazine Defense News reported that the U.S. expressed profound displeasure with the scheme of south Korea and Japan to purchase Russian-made weapons including jet fighters.
The south Korean puppets, hell-bent on war preparations, are now in hot water, falling a victim to powers' post-Cold War competitions for arms sale.
Preparations for President Kim Il Sung's birthday in different countries
Pyongyang, April 10 (KCNA) -- Preparatory committees were inaugurated in Guyana, the Dominican Republic and Jordan from march 21 to April 1 to commemorate the 85th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.
Hamilton Green, leader of the good green Guyana and mayor of Georgetown= Robert Williams, general secretary of The Party and chairman of the Guyanese National Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea of President Kim Il Sung= Silvano lora, secretary general of the Dominican Committee For the Reunification of Korea= Eddy A. Fermandes, president Of the institute of east medicine= and the general secretary of the Arab Defenders' Party of Jordan were respectively elected honorary chairman, chairman, co-chairmen and chairman of the preparatory committees.
The preparatory committees set a period of commemoration and adopted an action program.
Meanwhile, a Bangladesh National Committee to Remember President Kim Il Sung was formed on April 3 and rashed Khan Menon, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Bangladesh Central Committee, was elected chairman of the national committee.
Presidential work published in Cuba
Pyongyang, April 10 (KCNA) -- The immortal famous work of President Kim Il Sung "Let Us Achieve the Great Unity of Our Nation" was published in booklet by the academia publishing house of Cuba on April 1 to mark the Pesident's birth anniversary (Apr. 15).
National art exhibition of circle members
Pyongyang, April 10 (KCNA) -- A national art exhibition of circle members was opened here on April 9 to commemorate the 85th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.
On display there were more than 100 pieces of Korean painting, oil painting, graphic painting, handicraft and industrial fine arts which were created by people from various walks of life.
Typical of them are a Korean painting "For Ever" which depicts the Kumsusan Memorial Palace, the sacred temple of Juche, a poster "Let Us Carry Out the Behests of the Great Leader !" A Korean painting "Victory of Revolution is Visible" and an oil painting "I am a Soldier of the General."
Some of the works reflect the struggle of the Korean people for the reunification of the country and the traditional trait of army-people unity as well as landscape.
Ten-day film show opens to commemorate April 15
Pyongyang, April 10 (KCNA)-- A ten-day film show has opened to commemorate April 15.
Films on the glorious revolutionary history, immortal feats and noble virtues of President Kim Il Sung will be screened during the period.
Included in them are documentary films "The Fatherly Leader among Workers", "The Fatherly Leader among Agricultural Working People" and "Great History" and feature films "The Star of Korea", "The Sun of the Nation" and "Mt. Paektu".
And the films on the revolutionary activities and leadership of Secretary Kim Jong Il, the courageous efforts of the Korean people and their faith in certain victory, the sequels of the multi-part feature film "The Nation and Destiny" and newly-released feature films will also be shown.
The national opening ceremony took place at the People's Palace of Culture on April 9.

"Chongnyon Jonwi" artillery presented to people's army
Pyongyang, April 10 (KCNA) -- Youths and students across the country presented ten artillery pieces named "Chongnyon Jonwi" (young vanguard) to the people's army on the occasion of the 85th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.
The artillery reflect the deep loyalty and burning patriotism of the youth league members and children determined to trust and follow only General Kim Jong Il, strengthen the combat capacity of the people's army in every way, defend the socialist fatherland as firm as a rock and accomplish the historic cause of national reunification at any cost.

Pyongyang, April 10 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today brands the recent talks of "ruling-opposition party leaders" in south Korea as a political deal and a false drama.
The news analyst says:
At the talks, Kim Young Sam and the "opposition leaders" agreed to concentrate on revitalising the economy.
The catastrophic crisis of the south Korean economy is an inevitable outcome of Kim Young Sam's corrupt, thievish politics.
The outcry of the reactionary ruling and opposition parties for "economic revival" and "stabilisation of the people's life" is a mockery of and insult to the people.
No rose can be expected from sewerage. Unless Kim Young Sam's treacherous, corrupt politics is terminated, no such organisation as "council for economic revival" can save the south Korean economy from crisis.

Economic and commercial councillors visit Mangyongdae
Pyongyang, April 10 (KCNA) - The economic and commercial councillors' corps accredited to Korea visited Mangyongdae Wednesday to mark the birthday of President Kim Il Sung.
With boundless reverence for the President, they saw the relics preserved in his old home.
On the same day they saw the Korean documentary film "The Great life in 1994".
Evgeny Bilim, trade representative of Russia and doyen of the corps, said the visit to Mangyongdae and the film helped them to feel how deeply the Korean people respect the President.

Fourth anniversary of Secy. Kim Jong Il's election as Chairman of NDC celebrated
Pyongyang, April 10 (KCNA) -- Korea celebrated the fourth anniversary of the election of Secretary Kim Jong Il as the Chairman of the National Defence Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
Public security officers, soldiers of the Korean People's Security Forces (KPSF) and youths and students held celebrations in Pyongyang on April 9.
In a loyalty-pledging meeting and evening entertainment, the public security officers and KPSF soldiers evinced their determination to frustrate the provocative and subversive moves of the allied imperialist forces against the DPRK, defend the country from the encroachment of the enemy and reliably protect the lives and property of the people as defenders and detached forces of the party who are standing in the frontline of the class struggle.

Rodong Sinmun on lesson of incident in Albania
Pyongyang, April 10 (KCNA) -- The Albanian incident shows that political crisis and the ruin of the nation are inevitable if the principle and mode of socialism are given up, the political and economic methods of capitalism are introduced and the destiny of the country is entrusted to outside forces.
Rodong Sinmun today stresses this in a commentator's article headlined "what does Albanian incident show."
The serious political crisis in Albania is an inevitable result of the loss of the centripetal force of the state, the daily says, and goes on:
The loss of the state's centripetal force and danger of state collapse in Albania, once a socialist country, are attributable to the abandonment of the ideology and system of socialism.
The Albanian incident proves once again that the consistent policy of the Workers' Party of Korea on giving priority to ideological factor is the fundamental way of defending and advancing socialism.

Anti-reunification elements' fascist outrage
Pyongyang, April 10 (KCNA) -- The Kim Young Sam group arrested Song Ki Hong, chief of the policy section of the National Reunification Committee of South Korea's Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon).
This is an unpardonable fascist outrage which can be made only by the anti-reunification elements.
Minju Joson says this in a commentary today.
The daily goes on: The suppression of "Hanchongryon" by the Kim Young Sam group is part of their premeditated intrigues to obliterate the vanguard organisation of the one million patriotic students of south Korea calling for reunification.
Recently, the "Agency for National Security Planning" directed a drama of some student councils seceding from "Hanchongryon" in south Korea. At the same time, the Kim Young Sam group arrested hardcore members of "Hanchongryon". They are a few examples of the campaign to disorganize and obliterate this organisation.
The Kim Young Sam group, the first enemy of the south Korean people, are trying to block the struggle of the pro-reunification and pro-democracy forces by obliterating "Hanchongryon", the vanguard of the struggle.
The Kim Young Sam must give up the suppression of "Hanchongryon" and release all the unreasonably arrested patriotic students at once.
S. Korea to stage war games
Pyongyang, April 10 (KCNA) -- The Kim Young Sam group of south Korea reportedly plans to start large-scale military drills one after another against the north.
On April 7, the puppet headquarters of joint chiefs of staff announced that a drill dubbed "Hoguk-97" would be staged in the central and eastern part of the "metropolitan" area on the west coast for seven days beginning Thursday.
The drill, allegedly aimed at "increasing the capacity of joint operation and combat of large units", is said to involve two army corps, the "metropolitan" garrison command, naval and air force units of the puppet army.
The south Korean puppets also plan to carry out "97 Rsoi Exercise" with U.S. troops in south Korea within April.
Overseas-based U.S. troops will also participate in the exercise, called a joint operation for receiving, keeping and transferring to forward areas aggression forces coming from overseas after the outbreak of a war and then combining combat forces.
The exercise is considered very dangerous because it will be staged at a time when the south Korean military brasshats, on the order of Kim Young Sam, are raising outcries over the "security crisis" and letting out a stream of bellicose utterances.
Admittedly, Kim Young Sam has found himself in the worst crisis over the Hanbo incident since he came to power.
The successive dictators of south Korea sought a way out in a war provocation each time they were in a crisis. It is one of them that plunged the country into a holocaust of war. Kim Young Sam is a warmonger more heinous than they are in this respect.
He, who has already taken off the "civilian" veil and revealed his true colors as a fascist dictator and warmaniac, has launched the last-ditch bid for getting out of the crisis. If he continues seeking a way out in a war provocation, instead of drawing a lesson from his predecessors' disgraceful fate, it will precipitate his end which will be more miserable.
Kim Il Sung's works vols. 1-50 published
Pyongyang, April 10 (KCNA) -- The Workers' Party of Korea Publishing House brought out the 45th, 46th, 47th, 48th, 49th and 50th volumes of "Kim Il Sung's works" on the occasion of the birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.
44 volumes of the collection had already been published.
Contained in the first 44 volumes are reports, speeches, talks, orders, directives and other works made by President Kim Il Sung while leading the revolution and construction in the protracted period from June 1930 to July 1994.
The 45th to the 50th volumes contain the President's reminiscences "With the Century" vols. 1-6.
The publication of "Kim Il Sung's works" vols. 1-50, a library of the great Juche idea, is a precious fruition of extraordinary and outstanding ideological and theoretical activities of the president and a brilliant review of his ideological and theoretical exploits for the country and the people, the times and humankind.

Co-sponsorship of May Day function proposed in s. Korea
Pyongyang, April 10 (KCNA) -- The south Korean confederation of trade unions on April 7 proposed to the Federation of south Korean trade unions to cosponsor a meeting marking may day, according to a radio report from Seoul.
The confederation clarified that it made the proposal out of a desire to turn the meeting into a rally vowing to win victory in negotiations on wages and collective bargaining, a democratic revision of the "labour law" and the independent rights of workers.
"Song of General Kim Jong Il"
Pyongyang, April 10 (KCNA) -- The recently composed revolutionary hymn "Song of General Kim Jong Il" is very popular among the Korean people.
The song consists of three stanzas.
The first stanza says the people in all parts of Korea acclaim General Kim Jong Il, the son of Mt. Paektu, and that they are very happy to have another great leader.
The second one sings of his great exploits in turning Korea into a powerful socialist state -- independent in politics and self-reliant in the economy and national defence -- and making the people happy under the motto "The people are my god."
The third one says he smashes every enemy attempt and defends socialism and justice with iron will and wisdom and on the principle of independence.
The song also represents the noble intention of the Korean people to uphold him as the destiny of the country and the nation forever.
The song is estimated as a masterpiece of the times for its literary gem and solemn melody.
Immortal songs sung on festival stages
Pyongyang, April 10 (KCNA) -- President Kim Il Sung is praised as the greatest man and eternal leader on the festival stages.
The first performance of the 15th April Spring Friendship Art Festival was given here on April 9.
Pyongyang's main streets and theatres are in festive attire and atmosphere.
The first performance was given at ten theatres. The program reflected ardent longing and deep reverence for the President.
The Mongolian art troupe sang in chorus "Song of General Kim Il Sung" and the Ukrainian "Yerevka" choir the song "The Leader Will Always Be with Us".
Norwegian, Mongolian, Yugoslav, Austrian and Cuban soloists sang of ardent feelings of all people yearning for the President.
They sang the Korean songs "We Want to live Near the Leader", "Socialism is a Paradise", "With a Single Heart", "Evening of the Capital" and "O, the Unforgettable Dawn When We Met the Leader."

National seminar on Juche idea held
Pyongyang, April 10 (KCNA) -- A national seminar on the Juche idea was held here today to commemorate the 85th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.
Attending the seminar were Vice-President Ri Jong Ok, officials of the Party and power bodies, working people's organisations and national institutions and theoreticians and propagandists.
Secretary Choe Thae Bok of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea delivered a report titled "Immortal Juche idea is great revolutionary philosophy for independence of popular masses". He said the Juche idea founded by President Kim Il Sung is the unshakable guiding idea of the Korean revolution and a great revolutionary banner of the era.
As Secretary Kim Jong Il said, the revolutionary world outlook of the working class had been established by Marxism for the first time, and it was developed by the Juche idea onto a new, higher plane for its perfection, the reporter said, and continued:
Unlike the preceding philosophy of the working class, the Juche philosophy was the first to raise the co-relationship between the world and man and the position and role of man in the world as the basic question of philosophy.
It clarified that man is the master of everything and decides everything and, based on this, has given an elucidation and systematisation of philosophical questions.
The Juche idea is a revolutionary and political philosophy which serves the revolutionary practice of the popular masses for independence. It was founded, developed and enriched in the practice of the Korean revolution.
With the foundation of the revolutionary philosophy of Juche the schemings of the contemporary revisionists and bourgeois venal philosophers to spread reactionary philosophies of all hues, including a super-class philosophy, a religious philosophy and a bourgeois
Human philosophy, have been shattered to pieces. As a result, the Party, class and revolutionary spirits of the philosophy of the working class have been firmly defended and its purity guaranteed to the letter.
The Juche idea is a philosophy based on the revolutionary viewpoint and attitude toward the people. It is the political philosophy which indicates the principles and methodology in the the struggle for shaping the destinies of the popular masses.
The idea is a shining fruition of the rare ideological and theoretical wisdom and tireless ideological and theoretical activities of President Kim Il Sung, an outstanding thinker and theoretician and a genius of the revolution and construction= it is the ideological and theoretical summing-up of the enduring revolutionary feats, experiences and noble virtues of the great leader, who led the revolutionary struggle of the popular masses for independence to victory.
The vitality of the idea is more keenly felt under the guidance of Secretary Kim Jong Il with literary and military accomplishments and loyalty and filial piety.
By successfully applying the idea in the Korean revolution President Kim Il Sung, who founded the Workers' Party of Korea, a new revolutionary Party of Juche type, and Secretary Kim Jong Il strengthened and developed the party and built the man-centred socialism of Korean style as a fortress of socialism and a beacon of hope of humankind.
It is thanks to the rare and tested guidance of the two great leaders that the reunification movement has made a great progress and an epochal phase for reunification has been opened in the heat of the nationwide movement.
President Kim Il Sung with the noble sense of internationalist obligation gave a strong impetus to the development of the revolutionary movement in our era for building a new independent world on the basis of the Juche idea, the reporter added.

Foreign Ministry spokesman on "forged currency case"
Pyongyang, April 10 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the DPRK Foreign Ministry in an interview with KCNA today refuted the false reports that link the DPRK with forgery of foreign currency. He told KCNA:
It is reported these days that some DPRK citizens had a certain amount of forged currency of a third country confiscated in an alien land.
What is obvious at present is that the DPRK has nothing to do with the above-said case.
In this connection, a competent organ of the DPRK is working to verify the truth and adopt relevant measures.
As is known to all, the DPRK respects the international law and order on currency circulation and enforces a law that never allows any violation.
Under the socialist system of Korea, there are no conditions for such illegal practices as currency forgery.
We consider, therefore, that any attempt to connect such a disgraceful case as "currency forgery" with our government is a product of the sinister intention to impair the international image of the DPRK.
WPK delegation leaves for Russia
Pyongyang, April 10 (KCNA) -- A delegation of the Workers' Party of Korea led by Kang Sok Sung, director of the Party History Institute of Its Central Committee, left here today to attend the fourth Congress of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.
The delegation was seen off at the airport by Ji Jae Ryong, vice department director of the WPK Central Committee.
Kazakh and Nepali ambassadors present credentials to Vice-President
Pyongyang, April 10 (KCNA) -- Kuanysh Sultanov, new Kazakh Ambassador to Korea, and Yubaraj Singh Pradhan, new Ambassador of Nepal to Korea, separately presented credentials to Vice-President of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Pak Song Chol at the Mansudae Assembly Hall today.
Present there were Ri In Gyu and Choe U Jin, Vice-Ministers of Foreign Affairs.
