Secy. Kim Jong Il inspects KPA unit defending Height 1211
Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA) -- Secretary Kim Jong Il, Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army, on Tuesday inspected a KPA unit which defends Height 1211 in the east of the front.
He was accompanied by KPA vice marshals Jo Myong Rok, Kim Yong Chun and Jon Jae Son, KPA generals Hyon Chol Hae, Kim Ha Gyu and Pak Jae Gyong, and staff members of the KPA supreme command.
He went up to the watch post on the top of Height 1211.
He grasped the topographical conditions, the deployment and situation of the enemy troops, looking at the enemy's position one thousand metres away. And he was informed of the situation by the unit's commander.
He said the task of the unit which defends Height 1211, a vantage point in the east of the front, is very important.
He then went round the old battle sites on Height 1211, including the pits used by the people's army soldiers during the war.
He said the undying feats of the heroic soldiers who unhesitatingly dedicated their youth and lives to security of the Workers' Party of Korea, the leader and the generous system will remain long with the thriving socialist homeland.
He went on to say that the noble self-sacrificing spirit and indomitable revolutionary spirit displayed by the defenders of Height 1211, including the hero Ri Su Bok who blocked the enemy's gun muzzle with his chest and opened up the route of charge for his unit, still remain in the hearts of all the people's army soldiers and that no force on earth can match the KPA soldiers who are ready to dedicate their lives to the country and people.
He then went round a bed room, a dining hall, a store, a hothouse and other logistic facilities. He noted with high appreciation that the commanding officers with warm love for their soldiers provided excellent living conditions to the soldiers. He urged the officers to take warm care of them as their real parents would, as the soldiers are valuable revolutionary comrades and the treasure of the country.
He attended a class education seminar of soldiers.
He called for steadily strengthening class education and other politico-ideological education of the soldiers.
Secretary Kim Jong Il then called on the soldiers of a nearby company named after Ri Su Bok. He went round the armory, bedroom and other places of the company.
He expressed great satisfaction with the growth of all the soldiers into a-match-for-a hundred combatants.
He then visited Mt. Jihye on the forefront, which President Kim Il Sung climbed up on September 23, 1951, to put forward wise operational policies for the defence of Height 1211.
After going round the historic site, Secretary Kim Jong Il said the president worked hard all his life for the freedom and welfare of the people, experiencing all kinds of troubles. He added that the president's undying feats will shine forever along with the prosperous country.
Together with senior officials, he paid tribute to the President on his 85th birth anniversary in humble reverence before a monument.
He gave the unit machineguns, automatic rifles and binoculars as gifts and posed for photographs with soldiers.
Banquet for participants in April art festival
Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA) -- The Administration Council of the DPRK gave a banquet for the participants in the 15th April Spring Friendship Art Festival on Apr. 15, the birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.
Invited to the banquet were foreign artistes and overseas Korean artistes.
Present there were Ri Jong Ok and Pak Song Chol, who are politburo members of the Workers' Party of Korea Central Committee and vice presidents, and officials concerned. Speeches were made on the occasion.
Party given in north Hamgyong Province
Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA) -- The north Hamgyong provincial administrative and economic committee gave a party on Apr. 14 on the occasion of the birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.
Invited to the party were Chinese and Russian consuls general and consulate-general officials in Chongjin.
Speeches were made at the party, which proceeded in a friendly atmosphere.
Foreign artistes visit Presidential Statue
Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA) -- Participants in the 15th April Spring Friendship Art Festival visited the Statue of President Kim Il Sung on Mansu Hill on his 85th birth anniversary.
They were carrying a placard reading "The Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung Will Always Be With Us".
They laid floral baskets and bouquets and made respects before the Statue of the President.
Foreign political figures visit Korean embassies
Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA) -- Foreign political figures visited Korean embassies in their countries from April 9 to 11 on the 85th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.
Among them are Princess Norodom Bophadevi of Cambodia= A delegation of the Funcinpec Party of Cambodia= Zimbabwean political figures including the National Chairman of the Central Committee of the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front= Pantagi Alexandru, Chairman of the Romanian Communist Party= and First Secretary Alexander Paunov and other leaders of the Central Committee of the Commuist Party of Bulgaria.
They laid floral baskets and bouquets before the portraits of President Kim Il Sung and expressed reverence for him.
Princess Norodom Bophadevi said the special relations of friendship and cooperation between Korea and Cambodia
Established by the great leader Generalissimo Kim Il Sung and the respected king Norodom Sihanouk are in full bloom under the deep care of the great leader of the Korean people Marshal Kim Jong Il.
Pantagi Alexandru noted that the cause of President Kim Il Sung will be carried forward and his exploits will shine long, thanks to Secretary Kim Jong Il, the great leader of the Workers' Party of Korea.
Alexander Paunov stressed that President Kim Il Sung, a prominent activist of the international communist movement and working-class movement, was a great leader who devoted everything to the independence and prosperity of the country, freedom and happiness of the people, reunification of the country and victory in the socialist cause of the world from the first days of his revolutionary activities to the last moment of his life.
Banquet for overseas Koreans
Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA) - Secretary Kim Jong Il took care that a banquet was given for overseas Koreans on April 15, the birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.
Kim Yong Sun, Chairman of the Reunification Policy Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly and Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, said in his toast that the respected Secretary Kim Jong Il arranged a grand banquet for the overseas Koreans who have come to the homeland with deep reverence for the President.
The President's was a great life of a legendary man, a peerlessly great leader who led the revolution and construction to brilliant victory, sharing weal and woe with the people through trials under the motto, "one is sure to win if he believes in and depends upon the people", Kim Yong Sun noted. Performances given on birthday of President Kim Il Sung
Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA) -- Art performances were given at the Kaeson Youth Park, Mt. Taesong, the East Pyongyang Grand Theatre and other parks, recreation grounds and theatres in Pyongyang to commemorate the 85th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.
Programmes of the Mansudae Art Troupe, the State National Art Troupe, the Film and Radio Music Troupe, the Korean Film Studio, the State Comic Troupe and the Pyongyang Circus included the revolutionary opera "True Daughter of the Party", the light comedy "Blessings", the puppet show "Yellow Pearl and Blue Pearl", story-telling pieces and songs.

Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA) -- Monuments dedicated to President Kim Il Sung's revolutionary activities were erected in various places on his 85th birth anniversary.
The places include Phyongsan county of north Hwanghae Province and Taedong county of south Phyongan Province and Pyongyang locomotive corps.
A Revolutionary Museum was opened in Saeppyol county of north Hamgyong Province.
The President visited the county four times during the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle and many times after the liberation of the country.
Koreans in Japan commemorate April 15
Tokyo, April 14 (KNS-KCNA) -- A central meeting of Koreans in Japan was held in Tokyo on April 14 on the 85th birth anniversary of the great leader Generalissimo Kim Il Sung.
Present there were Han Tok Su, Chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), vice-chairmen and officials of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan.
Han Tok Su said in his speech that the April holiday makes him remember the warm care of the Generalissimo, stressing that officials of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan should uphold him as the eternal leader and take the road of patriotism under the leadership of Secretary Kim Jong Il.

Cambodian crewmen's symposium
Ppyongyang, Aapril 16 (KCNA) -- Crewmen of the Cambodian ship "Singbenghoe-8" held a symposium on President Kim Il Sung's noble virtues in Haeju port on April 14 to commemorate his 85th birth anniversary.
Speakers at the symposium said that after President Kim Il Sung returned in triumph to the country, he delayed visiting his native home in Mangyongdae and met the workers to encourage them to build a new country.
The President put forward the working class as the masters of the country and bestowed unlimited loving care on the people, they said.

Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA) - Secretary Kim Jong Il received letters from the International United Confederation of Koreans (International Kothongryon) and the Federation of Korean Nationals in China on the occasion of the 85th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.
The letter from the International Kothongryon said that President Kim Il Sung's was the most brilliant life of the respected leader who devoted his all solely to the liberation of the country, the development of the nation and the happiness of the people.

Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA) -- Politburo member of the Workers' Party of Korea Central Committee and DPRK Vice-President Pak Song Chol met and had a talk with the visiting delegation of the Rwandan patriotic front led by Vice-Chairman of the Front Denis Polisi at the Mansudae Assembly Hall on April 15.

Talks between Korean, Cambodian Party delegations
Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA) -- Talks were held here on April 15 between delegations of the Workers' Party of Korea And the People's Party of Cambodia.
Present there on the Korean side were Kim Yang Gon, Department Director of the Party Central Committee, officials concerned and on the opposite side were the delegation led by Ney Pena, member of the Standing Commission of the Party Central Committee and Vice-Chairman of the Party Control Committee.

Wonsan-Mt. Kumgang railway line opened to traffic
Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA) -- The Kumgangsan Youth Railway Line was opened to traffic on Tuesday.
The youth shock force and railway builders finished the 100-odd-km Wonsan-Mt. Kumgang line, which is helpful to economic construction, travel of people and utilization of tourist resources in Kangwon Province including Mt. Kumgang.
The opening ceremony took place at Wonsan station.
It was attended by secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea Central Committee Han Song Ryong, Vice-Premier of the Administration Council Hong Song Nam and officials concerned.
Han Song Ryong conveyed a congratulatory message of the WPK Central Committee to the youth shock force and railway builders involved in the project.

Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA) -- The Tseshin Publishing House in Poland published volume 1 of part i "the anti-Japanese revolution" of "With the Century", the reminiscences of President Kim Il Sung, on Mar. 25 on the occasion of his birth anniversary.

King of Cambodia sends floral basket
Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA) -- King of Cambodia Norodom Sihanouk sent a floral basket to the embassy of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in Phnom Penh on the occasion of the 85th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.

Foreigners express reverence for President Kim Il Sung
Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA) -- Diplomatic corps and the UNDP representative to Korea and former deputy leader of the National Party of Thailand Sa-Ard Piyavan and his entourage visited the Kumsusam Memorial Palace on April 15, the 85th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.

Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA -- Floral baskets were laid before the Statue of President kim il sung on Mansu Hill on April 15, his 85th birth anniversary.

Kumgangsan Youth Line
Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA) -- The young people of Korea finished the Wonsan-Mt. Kumgang railway project as a gift to the 85th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.
The 100-odd-km Kumgangsan Youth Line opened to traffic on Tuesday with due ceremony. The project is a product of the President's wish and the plan of the Workers' Party of Korea. The project included the construction of some ten stations, tens of tunnels and bridges and many other structures.
The line is from Anbyon station to the entrance to Mt. Kumgang in Onjong-ri, Kosong county. The line passes by Anbyon plain, the eastern coast, lake Tongjong, lake Sijung and other scenic spots in Kangwon Province. Unique shapes of stations go well with the landscape.
The railway line is helpful to the nation's railway transport and the travel of provincial people.
The young people of Korea finished this monumental project in a little more than a year.
Interview of chief of Havana mission of NDFSK
Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA) -- Pak Kwang Gi, chief of the mission of the National Democratic Front of South Korea (NDFSK) in Cuba, held an interview with the Cuban paper Granma on April 10 on the occasion of the 37th anniversary of the April 19 popular uprising in south Korea.
He said that the April 19 Uprising ended in the fall of the Syngman Rhee dictatorial regime and dealt a decisive blow to the colonial rule of the United States.
It was a historical event which opened up an epochal phase in the development of the south Korean revolutionary movement for independence, democracy and reunification, Pak Kwang Gi noted, and continued:
Thirtyseven years has passed since the April 19 Uprising.
However, the democratic freedom and rights of the people have ruthlessly been violated in south Korea.
The traitors who go against the aspirations of the times and the demands of the nation must be overthrown and the traitorous regime be replaced with an independent and democratic one.
Our NDFSK and the patriotic people from all walks of life will remove Kim Young Sam regime and establish an independent and democratic regime through a nationwide struggle.
Children's camping begins
Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA) - Children's camping began in Mangyongdae and other parts of the country on Apr. 15 with due ceremonies.
Every April schoolchildren of Korea do a pleasant camping.
Participating in the camping this time are sons and daughters of officers of the Korean People's Army, including those from the forefront.
The campers will have meetings to learn from the childhood of President Kim Il Sung and the respected General Kim Jong Il and make sports and games, mountaineering and art activities.
National flower show opens
Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA) -- A national flower show opened at the April 15 children's flower garden exhibition in Pyongyang on April 15, the 85th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.
On display in the central hall of the exhibition were 300 flowers of Kimilsungia and Kimjongilia.
More than 2,500 items of 300 kinds were presented by commissions and ministries of the Administration Council, national institutions, organs, enterprises and organisations, individual gardeners, amateur florists and working people.
