Kim Young Sam seeks overseas flight

Pyongyang, June 3 (KCNA) -- Kim Young Sam of south Korea is seeking to escape abroad before the expiration of his term of office, reported the Seoul-based radio voice of national salvation. The radio said that according to the latest information from one of his close associates, Kim Young Sam has decided to hasten overseas flight, from his judgement that he would have to face a legal punishment after his retirement. Kim sought to conclude the Hanbo incident with a legal action against his son Kim Hyon Chol and save the ruling crisis by creating an "Election atmosphere". But the opposition camps are mounting attacks over the "Presidential Election" funds. His decision also came from the thought that if the "New Korea Party" loses the forthcoming "Presidential Elections" the opposition party that seizes "power" will surely retaliate over the issue of the "Presidential Election" fund and that even if the "NKP" wins the "Election," the next- term regime will not ensure his safety. It is clear that Kim Young Sam will be imprisoned after the tenure of his office. Posters reading "ex-'presidents' Chun Doo Hwan and Roh Tae Woo are waiting for Kim Young Sam and his son in jail" are seen everywhere and the people increasingly demand Kim's resignation. In this situation he made up his mind to escape abroad before the expiration of his term and is thinking over when and how he will do so, the radio said.

Students' demonstration gains momentum in s. Korea

Pyongyang, June 3 (KCNA) -- More than 5,000 students under the influence of the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) held a rally at Korea University on the early morning of June 2, vowing to hold an inaugural meeting of the fifth-term "Hanchongryon," a Seoul-based radio said. Earlier, on June 1 students fought in different places, denouncing the fascist clique for blocking a rally of the people which was scheduled to be held in front of the puppet Seoul city hall. Some 1,000 students attacked the Jongam and Songbuk police stations in Seoul in protest against the police suppression of their efforts to hold the inaugural meeting. In another development, upwards of 2,000 students held a demonstration, urging the opening to the public of the 1992 "Presidential Election" funds. About 7,000 students, when policemen kept them from going to a venue of the rally of the people from different parts of south Korea, held an all-night sit-in struggle at Korea and Hanyang Universities, demonstrating their willingness to fight in the teeth of any suppression. Before a press conference declaring their will to hold the inaugural meeting, "Hanchongryon" held an emergency meeting of its deputies and decided to wage a campaign for the opening to the public of the "Presidential Election" funds and the resignation of the Kim Young Sam "Government" in solidarity with the "National Alliance for Democracy and Reunification" and other dissident organisations on June 4 and 7 in case the holding of the inaugural meeting is blocked. Nearly 600 students were walked off during the struggle which began on May 30.

Kim Young Sam criticised for his blast

Pyongyang, June 3 (KCNA) -- Kim Young Sam said this or that over the controversial 1992 "Presidential Election" fund and went the length of threatening that he would make an "important resolution". Rodong Sinmun today, commenting on this, says the south Koreans with surging indignation denounce his remarks as the most shameless mockery of and insult to them. The news analyst goes on: By letting out such a rigmarole the traitor sought to threaten pro-democracy forces calling for the opening to the public of the "Presidential Election" fund. His remarks represent his willingness to keep from the public the truth behind the fund in any case and to make an "important resolution" against those who try to probe his crimes. His remarks also betray his true colors as a fascist who has lost reason because of his imminent destruction. With nothing can Kim Young Sam bridge over the critical situation. Kim Young Sam should have a correct understanding of the trend of the times, stop acting rashly, open to the public the truth behind the fund and step down immediately.

Pochonbo Battle of great importance in national liberation struggle

Pyongyang, June 3 (KCNA) -- June 4 is the 60th anniversary of the victory in the Pochonbo Battle which marked a special event in the history of the Korean people's anti-Japanese struggle for national liberation. With the approach of the third anniversary of the death of President Kim Il Sung, the Korean people are commemorating the victory day, while recollecting with deep emotion the enduring feats he performed in the history of national liberation. In the mid-1930s, the Japanese imperialist aggressors' brutality, greediness and brazenness reached their height. The shameless colonialists, in an attempt to erase Korea from the world map and deprive the Korean people of their spoken and written language and their surnames, forced them to bow to the direction of the "Japanese imperial palace" and claimed, "the Japanese and the Koreans are of the same ancestry." Deeply feeling the immeasurable sufferings of the Korean people and the tragic situation, President Kim Il Sung, at the historic xigang meeting in March 1937, put forward a policy of advancing a large unit into the homeland, dealing a heavy military and political blow at the Japanese imperialist aggressors and inspiring Korean people with the conviction of sure victory in the revolution. He commanded the unit to carry out the operation. He, who considered the attack on Pochonbo, a strategic point of the Japanese imperialists, to be a key to the successful advance into the homeland, issued an order of attack to the unit at 10 p.m. June 4, 1937. As soon as he fired a signal, the police substation, which was the citadel of repression and atrocities was attacked, and the forest conservation office, the subcounty office, the post office, the fire hall and other administrative centres of the enemy were engulfed in flames. People gathered on the street and enthusiastically welcomed President Kim Il Sung, the great sun of the nation, shouting hurrah. The President addressed a historic speech to the cheering compatriots under the title "Let us fight on staunchly for the liberation of the fatherland", inspiring the colonized nation with the hope for the victory in the revolution and encouraging the compatriots to the sacred struggle for national liberation. In the sixth volume of the anti-Japanese revolution, the first part of his reminiscences "With the Century", he wrote: "The battle met the requirements of guerrilla warfare at the highest level. The selection of the objective, the timing and method to attack, especially surprise attack, the combination of brisk propaganda and powerful agitation through incendiary action -- all the processes of the operations were perfectly coordinated." He also wrote: "Korea, a lesser nation that had once exposed the crimes committed by Japan and begged for independence at an international peace conference, suddenly revealed itself to possess a revolutionary fighting force capable of dealing merciless blows at the army of Japan (which boasted of being one of the five world powers), a force that swiftly broke through the 'iron wall' built by the Japanese imperialists and dealt a crushing blow of punishment at the aggressors." The guerrilla army unit's successive victory in the battles on Mt. Kusi and Kansam Hill demonstrated that Korea remained alive and gave the oppressed people the belief that if they fight, they would win. The Pochonbo Battle was, indeed, a historic operation which revived the destiny of the nation and the fellow countrymen and dealt a serious political and military blow at the Jjapanese imperialists.

Book "Great Strategist of the 21st Century" published in Russia

Pyongyang, June 3 (KCNA) -- The Paleya Publishing House of Russia on May 26 brought out the book "Great strategist of the 21st century" written by Prof. and Dr. Gabriil Korotkov, Chief Researcher of the Military History Institute of the Russian Ministry of Defence, to commemorate the 85th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung. The book consisting of five chapters carries in its front page a portrait of President Kim Il Sung. The author wrote in the book: President Kim Il Sung was born into a most patriotic and revolutionary family and embarked on the road of revolution in his early years. He is the great leader and the great father, who founded the immortal Juche idea and devoted all his life only to freedom and happiness of the people and to victory of the socialist cause. He advanced the Juche-based lines and policies and outstanding strategy and tactics at every period and stage of the development of revolution -- the anti-Japanese armed struggle, the building of a new country after the liberation, the fatherland liberation war, and the socialist revolution and construction -- and had wisely led the work to implement them to the letter. In particular, he created and successfully applied the Juche-oriented military idea and art. He is, indeed, the greatest man who performed undying feats and left the valuable fortune of philosophical, socio- political, and military strategical theories for generations to come. There have been many great men in the world but the only and one great strategist is President Kim Il Sung, who had wisely led the advancement of history, surmounting all sorts of ordeals. This is why humankind call with pleasure the 20th century Kim Il Sung's age and will eternally worship and laud him who left deep impressions in history. The author also referred to the gifts of Secretary Kim Jong Il, who has made distinguished achievements while conducting ideological and theoretical activities and building the party, state and army for 30 odd years. The 21st century will advance more dynamically towards socialism, by Secretary Kim Jong Il, another great strategist who has taken the steering wheel of history, which was once taken by President Kim Il Sung, the author stressed.

Last-ditch effort of Kim Young Sam

Pyongyang, June 3 (KCNA) -- Minju Joson today brands Kim Young Sam's suppression of students of "Hanchongryon" (the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils) as a last-ditch effort. The south Korean puppets are preventing the inaugural ceremony of the fifth-term "Hanchongryon" with over 20,000 police of 180 companies in Seoul. The paper in a signed commentary notes that the Kim Young Sam group are a herd of traitors who brand "Hanchongryon" as "benefitting the enemy" though the organisation has advanced along the road of independence, democracy and reunification to meet the unanimous desire of the south Korean people. Kim is being hit hard for the Hanbo scandal, his son Kim Hyon Chol's issue and the "Presidential Election" funds, says the paper. He is digging his grave by blocking the ceremony of "Hanchongryon", it notes, adding that he must step down at once.

It was attended by Ri Jong Ok and Pak Song Chol, politburo members of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and vice-presidents= Kim Pyong Sik, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Korean Social Democratic Party and Vice-President= Vice-Premier Kim Yong Nam and Secretary of the C.C., WPK Kye Ung Thae, who are politburo members of the C.C., WPK, other officials and foreign diplomatic envoys and military attaches here. Choe Thae Bok, alternate politburo member and Secretary of the C.C., WPK, addressed the meeting. Pochonbo, situated in a northern border area of Korea, was a strategic point of the Japanese imperialists at that time. At 10 p.m. June 4, 1937, the battle began with a signal fired by President Kim Il Sung. Soldiers of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army attacked the police substation, the subcounty office and other repressive tools and administrative organs and swept away Japanese aggressors in a flash. In his speech "Let us fight on staunchly for the liberation of the fatherland" addressed to the cheering crowd, the president declared that the KPRA would surely liberate the country and called on the whole nation to rise up in the anti-Japanese war. Choe Thae Bok said the battle, which took place when the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule was the most barbarous, marked a decisive occasion in encouraging all the people of ruined Korea to the anti-Japanese struggle for national liberation. It fully demonstrated the Juche-based stand that the Korean revolution should be carried out by the Korean communists and people and the revolutionary, heroic spirit of the Korean people, who fight any formidable imperialists in a do-or-die spirit and win the struggle for justice, he noted. Under the leadership of Secretary Kim Jong Il, the son of Mt. Paektu who guides the revolution triumphantly, the Workers' Party, Army and People of Korea are exalting the dignity and honor of Kim Il Sung's nation, full of confidence and optimism, he said. Though the imperialists and reactionaries are trying hard to isolate and stifle the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the party, army and people are fully displaying the spirit of the Pochonbo Battle with the belief that Korea will always remain alive and is capable of defeating any strong enemy. As the Korean people won the war against the Japanese aggressors and exalted the nation's honor and dignity under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung, they will surely win the final victory in the revolution under the tested guidance of Secretary Kim Jjong Iil, he aAdded.
