S. Korea: doubtful death of policeman
Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- A policeman died while being involved in crackdown upon students' struggle for the fifth- term ceremony of the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon), reports from Seoul said.
His dead body was found near Songdong Bridge in Seoul on Monday evening.
The police authorities announced that according to "police hospital doctors", a "good deal" of blood was found gathered around the policeman's right chest and lung, which "seemed to be caused by a strong strike of a hard thing."
However, what is in question is that no injury could be seen around his body from head to feet.
As for this, the authorities added it is doctors' "view" that no wound might be left because he wore thick uniform.
The puppet chief prosecutor ordered the arrest of "criminals", signalling that another harsh crackdown on "Hanchongryon" may be imminent.
The facts show that the Kim Young Sam group is seeking a way out in intensifying the repression.
Press review
Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- Papers here today observe the 60th anniversary of the victorious Pochonbo Battle personally organized by President Kim Il Sung in the period of the anti-Japanese armed struggle (June 4, 1937).
Rodong Sinmun runs an editorial titled "Revolutionary torchlight of Pochonbo will be immortal" and Minju Joson devotes one whole page to articles under the title "Torchlight of Pochonbo will be immortal with feats of three generals".
Seen in papers are an account of a national meeting, the report made at the meeting and an account of a bonfire gathering of youth and students to mark the anniversary.
Under the title "They always worked together for the people" Rodong Sinmun prints an article headlined "reliable younger generation see image of great men" illustrated by a picture of President Kim Il Sung and Secretary Kim Jong Il giving on-the-spot guidance to the Pyongyang No. 1 Senior Middle School.
The paper says that the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea gave a party on the 66th birthday of Raul Castro Ruz.
Over 10,000 students of the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) broke through police cordon into Hanyang University, the place of its fifth-term ceremony, papers report.
Rodong Sinmun comes out with a commentary denouncing the crackdown upon the students by the fascist clique.
Under the banner title "The south Korean people will decisively punish Kim Young Sam, the fascist dictator", the paper carries articles saying that only three percent of pollees "support" Kim Young Sam, and the 9 persons of the ruling party are contesting for "Presidential" candidate.
"More vicious moves of imperialists for domination" is the title of an article of the paper.
Party on Raul's 66th birthday
Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- The Workers' Party of Korea Central Committee arranged a party at the Mansudae Assembly Hall Tuesday on the occasion of the 66th birthday of Raul Castro Ruz, Second Secretary of the C.C., Communist Party of Cuba, First Vice-President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces.
Addressing the party, politburo member and Secretary of the WPK Central Committee Kye Ung Thae said Raul Castro embarked on the revolution in his early years with unshakable faith in communist idea and made big contributions to overthrowing the U.S. imperialists and the Batista dictatorial regime on the Cuban territory and building, consolidating and developing a socialist system upholding leadership of the respected President Fidel Castro Ruz.
Second Secretary Raul Castro is known as a precious friend of the Korean people, for, together with his leader, he has been in particular intimacy with Secretary Kim Jong Il, the great leader of the Workers' Party and the people of Korea, the secretary said.
To further the friendly relations between Korea and Cuba which were forged, consolidated and developed on the basis of deep intimacy between leaders of the two countries is the firm will and wish of Secretary Kim Jong Il, he added.
The Workers' Party of Korea will in the future, too, stand by the Cuban people in the struggle for socialism and independence against imperialism and do its best to strengthen and develop the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two parties, two countries and two peoples, he stressed.
Cuban Ambassador to Korea Jose Ramon Rodriguez Varona said in his speech that the greatest concern shown by Secretary Kim Jong Il, the great leader of the Korean people, for the birthday of Second Secretary Raul Castro Ruz represents a vivid expression of love and benevolence for the Cuban people.
Second Secretary Raul met Presudent Kim Il Sung and cherishes particular feelings of admiration for Secreatry Kim Jong Il, Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army, for the KPA and for the Korean people, he said.
The Ambassador reaffirmed that Cuba will be faithful to her faith, defend socialism at any cost and keep the friendship forged between the two peoples.
Harsher suppression, earlier destruction
Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today denounces the Kim Young Sam fascist clique for intensifying suppression of patriotic pro-democracy forces.
The news analyst says:
The puppets suppressed the just efforts of the students to hold the inaugural meeting of the 5th-term South Korean Federation of University Student Councils at the point of bayonet and arrested nearly 600 of them in a few days.
The harsh suppression is an intolerable challenge to the south Koreans aspiring after independence, democracy and reunification as well as the last-ditch effort of those doomed to ruin.
The harsher the suppression, the stronger the people's protest.
The intensified fascist suppression is one more crime committed by the Kim Young Sam group= it will only precipitate their destruction.
The massive struggle of the south Koreans to overthrow Kim Young Sam is irresistible.
The only way for the Kim Young Sam fascist clique is to open to the public the truth behind the "Presidential Election" fund and the Hanbo loan scandal and step down as demanded by the south Koreans.
War scenario against DPRK flailed
Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- Imperialists are now trying to stifle the Democratic People's Republic of Korea by force of arms, crying for "coping with an event of contingency on the Korean Peninsula".
Conservative hardliners of the U.S. Government at recent talks with a delegation of the Security Research Council of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan during its visit to the U.S. suggested that the U.S. and Japan should immediately work out a detailed war scenario allegedly to cope with an "event of contingency on the Korean Peninsula".
This meant a war scenario against the DPRK.
Their allegation that it is necessary to prevent "possible provocation by north Korea" and "the communisation of south Korea by the north" is nothing but a sophistry to mislead public opinion and justify their war provocation moves.
With this argument they scheme to consolidate the tripartite military alliance of the U.S., Japan and south Korea as well as the U.S.-Japan military tieup.
The U.S. hawks and the Japanese reactionaries never let a chance pass by without crying for increased "defence cooperation" between the two countries.
Re-examination of the "defence cooperation guidelines" is basic in their efforts to increase U.S.-Japan "defence cooperation." The re-examination will be getting all the more dangerous with the phrase "emergency in the far east" in the present "guidelines" worked out in 1978 changing into "emergency around Japan" and with the phrase "emergency in Japan" turning into the "emergency around Japan".
By "emergency around Japan" the U.S. and Japan mean a joint military action and the exercise of the right to collective self-defense in any area around Japan. But, it is, in essence, the "emergency on the Korean Peninsula."
The U.S. and Japan lay emphasis on establishment of a theatre missile defence system in the re-examination of the "defence cooperation guidelines" and the modernisation of armed forces for the "emergency around Japan."
Japan is trying to further modernise combat equipment and increase its production through the introduction of the high military technology from the U.S. for the theatre missile defence system. The point at issue is that establishment of this system is directly linked with Japan's wild ambition for oversease expansion and in partiuclar it
is a DPRK-targeted system.
While talking about the "emergency on the Korean Peninsula", the south Korean puppets are massively introducing uptodate combat equipment from the U.S. and other countries and staging frantic military manoeuvres of various kinds, taking advantage of the war preparations stepped up by the U.S. and Japan.
All this clearly shows that the crying for coping with "the emergency on the Korean Peninsula" is not for providing against "possible provocations" and "threat" from the DPRK, but for justifying war preparations of the U.S., Japan and south Korean puppets, stepping up arms buildup and making a surprise attack on the DPRK. war provokers are doomed to ruin. The crying for "coping with the emergency on the Korean Peninsula" will certainly prove false, condemned by the progressives of the world who are fighting for justice, truth, peace and stability.
S. Korean students' struggle
Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- More than 2,000 students under the influence of the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils, who had gathered at Hanyang University, held a rally till late at night on Tuesday to bitterly condemn the Kim Young Sam fascist clique's suppression, confronted with riot police with barricades piled up in front of the gate of the university, following their protests on Monday, radio reports from Seoul said.

Rodong Sinmun calls for holding higher Pochonbo torchlight
Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- Pochonbo torchlight is the torchlight of faith, patriotism and revolution that should be held high forever for independence of the popular masses, for eternal prosperity of the country and the motherland and for uncompromising struggle against imperialism, says Rodong Sinmun today.
The Pochonbo Battle organised and commanded by President Kim Il Sung on June 4, 1937, in the period of the anti-Japanese armed struggle was an event of great historic significance in saving the destiny of the nation and opening an epochal phase of the Korean revolution.
In an editorial titled "Torchlight of revolution kindled in Pochonbo is immortal" dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the victory in the Pochonbo Battle the paper says:
The torchlight is still flaring up as the symbol of socialist Korea.
Recalling the historic Pochonbo Battle, the Korean people cherish deeper in their mind the faith that led by Secreatry Kim Jong Il, Korea will remain alive forever come what may.
Secretary Kim Jong Il is a legendary brilliant commander who has the same traits that President Kim Il Sung had, who was the commander of the guerrilla army fighting against the one million troops of the Japanese imperialists on Mt. Paektu.
Korea today is a country strong in ideology and faith, which lives and fights in the spirit of Mt. Paektu. World-startling spirit of Korea is precisely the faith and will of Secretary Kim Jong Il.
Any reactionary ideological offensive does not affect the Korean people who have the same spirit of Mt. Paektu that Secretary Kim Jong Il has.
The Korean people, therefore, have become a people with a firm willingness to pull through any difficulty and a heroic people who have done what was determined under any circumstances.
Korea today is a powerful country which displays the might in the spirit of singlehearted unity.
Korea owes its existence to the singlehearted unity around Secretary Kim Jong Il as a single socio-political organism.
We should not lay down the torchlight of revolution held up by President Kim Il Sung all his life, but keep holding higher the red flag forever.
The difficulties with which the country and the nation are faced will surely be overcome and the day of victory is sure to come. This is the faith in sure victory that the Pochonbo Battle implanted in the mind of the Korean people.

They had cross words for three hours over the resignation of Ri Hoe Chang from the post of "NKP" chairman.
Ri Hong Gu, Ri Han Dong, Pak Chan Jong and other aspirants contended it is "unfair" that Ri Hoe Chang as "NKP" chairman runs for the nomination of the "Presidential" candidate as there are many aspirants within the party.
But Ri Hoe Chang refuted their argument, saying his resignation can be decided only under the agreement with Kim Young Sam, President of the party.
The dispute began when Ri Hoe Chang was named chairman.
They quarreled in the presence of Kim Young Sam on May 29.

"Hanchongryon" on death of policeman
Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- The South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) in a statement Tuesday vowed to continue the struggle to bring down Kim Young Sam, according to a foreign news report.
In the statement "Hanchongryon" blamed the authorities for the death of a police officer, who died on Monday while cracking down upon campus demonstration.
Insisting he had been knocked down by an armoured tear gas launcher, the statement said, "We ask that the murderous and corrupt Kim Young Sam regime take full responsibility and resign."
"We ask for a fair investigation and warn against using the officer's death as a pretext to crack down on 'Hanchongryon'," it added.
