Secy. Kim Jong Il visits island-defending unit

Pyongyang, June 24 (KCNA) - Secretary Kim Jong Il, Chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission and Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army (KPA), inspected an island-defending unit of KPA Unit No. 1106 on Monday. He was accompanied by staff members of the KPA Supreme Command. At 09:30 he arrived at the island, when soldiers welcomed him with a storm of cheers and shouts "human bombs" and "devoted defence." He was met by the unit's commanding officers. After receiving a salute from the unit's commander, he looked round a monument to President Kim Il Sung's on-the-spot guidance. The President had visited the island-defending unit on November 5, 1976, given the unit detailed tasks and taken warm care of the life of soldiers and officers' families. Secretary Kim Jong Il said every military post in Korea is associated with the President's noble efforts for Juche-based army building. The President's exploits are recorded in the proud history of the KPA building, he added. He expressed great satisfaction and highly praised the unit's soldiers for having turned the island into an impregnable fortress as wished by the President. He said the unit's soldiers have grown to be matchless combatants as they tried hard, ready to share weal and woe with their Party, leader and socialist motherland. No force on earth can match the strength of the KPA, which is intensely loyal to its Party and leader, he added. He gave the unit important tasks to strengthen its fighting efficiency, saying that it has a very important mission to defend the gate of the motherland. While seeing soldiers in firing-posture training, he noted with great satisfaction that every soldier of the KPA has grown to be a match for a hundred foes. He inspected a bedroom, a dining hall, a daily provision storage, an education room and other places to learn the food and bed conditions, entertainment, water service and families' living conditions. He did great favors for the soldiers on the island, saying that they should be provided with best conditions. He gave the unit a machine gun, an automatic rifle and a pair of binoculars as gifts. Rodong Sinmun introduces achievements made by the Korean people in the struggle for carrying out the behests of President Kim Il Sung during the past 3 years, true to their pledge to the late President. According to the paper, senior Party and Government officials appreciated part 42 of the Korean multi-part feature film "The Nation and Destiny", that is, part 9 on KAPF writers. Minju Joson introduces Mun Yong Sam, who proved successful at the 19th world amateur go chess championship. Rodong Sinmun carries commentaries on the Kim Young Sam group's suppression of patriotic youth and students who follow the Juche idea and on the south Korean puppets' armament expansion and arms buildup. The paper runs an article saying that Kim Young Sam is a warmonger seeking a way out in war against the north. The paper brands the U.S. imperialists as the provoker of the Korean War.

Part 42 of "The Nation and Destiny" released

Pyongyang, June 24 (KCNA) -- Part 42 of the Korean multi-part feature film "The Nation and Destiny", that is, part 9 on KAPF writers, was released. The film shows that the hero Ri Chan and other writers and artistes, deeply moved by the love and trust of President Kim Il Sung, created the immortal revolutionary hymn "Song of General Kim Il Sung", under the guidance of comrade Kim Jong Suk, an indomitable communist revolutionary fighter, and as unanimously desired by the people. The film also depicts the historical fact that men of literature and art of south Korea came to Pyongyang, the bosom of President Kim Il Sung, pulling through grave ordeals of war. Ri Jong Ok, Kim Pyong Sik, Kim Yong Nam, Kye Ung Thae, Jon Pyong Ho, Han Song Ryong and other senior Party and Government officials saw the new film at the People's Palace of Culture on Monday.

Rodong Sinmun on military expansion in s. Korea

Pyongyang, June 24 (KCNA) -- The south Korean puppets are more zealously stepping up military expansion and arms buildup than ever. Commenting on this, a news analyst of Rodong Sinmun today says: In April and May, they allocated a total of 200 billion won for 12 military domains. At a "'97 academic seminar on defence", they openly revealed their ulterior intention for drastic military expansion, alleging that "it is necessary to secure stabilized military expenditure for security". This shows that the Kim Young Sam puppet clique have reached a reckless stage in their military expansion and arms buildup against the north. They continue purchasing lethal equipment on the plea of "security". What they seek in this is to start a fratricidal war at any cost. Their military expansion and arms buildup will result in digging up their own grave. Mindful of this, they must act with discretion.

Repression of "Hanchongryon" under fire

Pyongyang, June 24 (KCNA) -- Many student bodies and public organizations of south Korea have contributed to the Hangyore Shinmun newspaper articles denouncing Kim Young Sam's repression of the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) and demanding his resignation, according to the paper. Officials of the Seoul District Federation of University Student Councils and the 13th-term Changjo University of Natural Science Student Council, the 14th-term Chongnyon University of Social Science Student Council, the 30th-term Thongil University of Technology Student Council, in their articles, urged the resignation of the Kim Young Sam regime which had blocked the new-term ceremony of "Hanchongryon". The 5th-term General Reserve Student Council, the 8th-term Hongik University Student Council and the 29th-term Minjok Sanub University Student Council, in their articles called for a successful holding of the ceremony of "Hanchongryon". The south headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification, the 14th-term Aeguk University of Foreign Studies Student Council and the seniors loving "Jondaehyop" and "Hanchongryon" in their articles urged Kim Young Sam to open to the public the "Presidential Election" fund and step down and called upon students to stand in the van of the struggle to bring about an early reunification based on a confederacy formula.

Rodong Sinmun on United States, igniter of Korean War

Pyongyang, June 24 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today comes out with a signed article on the shameless behaviour of the United States which is engaged in false propaganda to shift the responsibility for the ignition of the Korean War onto the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Recalling that the U.S. imperialists unleashed the Korean War, the author of the article says, and continues: From the first days of their illegal occupation of south Korea, the U.S. imperialists schemed to ignite the Korean War. First of all, they framed up a puppet regime in south Korea and equipped the puppet army, a "shock brigade" of the war against the north, with modern weapons and increased its combat capabilities. They deployed most of the south Korean puppet army along the 38th parallel and ceaselessly committed armed provocations against the northern half of Korea. In 1949 alone, they committed more than 2,617 cases of armed provocations on the ground and illegally infiltrated more than 130 warships and 97 military planes into the northern half of Korea. They built many airports, roads, ports, military bases and facilities in south Korea and bestially cracked down upon the anti-American national salvation resistance of south Korean people on the plea of "security in the rear". What the United States intended was that, when the war was unleashed in Korea, it would spread false propaganda about "start of southward invasion by the north", bring it to the United Nations Security Council for its approval and then take the road of large-scale armed intervention. The Korean War was a war of aggression started by the U.S. imperialists with full preparations and scrupulous plan. The Korean Peninsula is now in a more dangerous situation than it was on the eve of the start of the Korean War in 1950. If the U.S. imperialists restart war of aggression in Korea, oblivious of the past lessons, the Korean people will vent their pent-up grudge and resentment with all the potentials they have made for scores of years and achieve the reunification of their country without fail.

Rodong Sinmun on ideological suppression in s. Korea

Pyongyang, June 24 (KCNA) -- A few days ago, the Kim Young Sam group arrested 17 students of Korea University and eight puppet army soldiers of the university origin on the strength of the "National Security Law" for the reason that they formed an organisation for the study of the Juche idea and called for the reunification through confederacy. Commenting on this fact, an analyst of Rodong Sinmun today says: What they pursue in this is to lend credibility to their false propaganda branding the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) as a "pro-north organisation benefiting the enemy" and as a "violent organisation" and justify their brutal suppression of patriotic-minded students. It is ridiculous of them to brand the advocators of the Juche idea as "sympathizing with" and "benefiting the enemy". Ideology cannot be fettered. Needless to say, the Kim Young Sam group cannot block the desire of the south Korean people to follow the Juche idea. The Kim Young Sam group would be well advised to judge the situation with reason, stop the bestial scorched-earth operations against "Hanchongryon" and other democratic forces at once and release all the illegally arrested people without delay.

Memorial meeting for President Kim Il Sung held in Russia

Moscow, June 22 (KCNA) -- A meeting of deputies to the State Duma of Russia was held here on June 19 to honor the memory of President Kim Il Sung on his third death anniversary. At the memorial meeting Aleksei Ponomaryov, Head of the Russian Parliamentary Group for Friendship and Liaison with the DPRK, said the DPRK rises high before the world and humankind as a tower of exploits performed by President Kim Il Sung. There can be found in the world no such strong Party, solid and harmonious, developed and stabilized socialist state, noble and simple people with strong sense of duty as the Workers' Party of Korea, the DPRK and the Korean people, he said, adding: This reality the world has witnessed is the exploit of the President. G. Gamza, First Secretary of the Amur Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, said President Kim Il Sung will always live with the progress of Korea invariably advancing towards socialism under the guidance of Secretary Kim Jong Il, who is successor to the Juche cause, and with the struggle and life of the Korean people. Viktor Vishnyakov, Chairman of the International Law Sub-Committee of the International Affairs Committee of the State Duma, said: with the great Juche idea of President Kim Il Sung and with their strong stamina, the DPRK and the Korean people are standing squarely against the United States and the West. We should follow the idea and morality the President implanted in the minds of the Korean people. The speakers prayed for the eternal life of President Kim Il Sung and wished a long life in good health to Secretary Kim Jong Il. A letter to Secretary Kim Jong Il was adopted at the meeting.

Indefinite hunger struggle declared in s. Korea

Pyongyang, June 24 (KCNA) -- Prisoners of conscience throughout south Korea published a message declaring that they would begin an indefinite hunger struggle in protest against Kim Young Sam's "security-oriented" suppression, according to a south Korean newspaper report. The message was published in the name of all prisoners of conscience fighting for checking "security-oriented" suppression and getting the "National Security Law" (NSL) abolished. The message says the Kim Young Sam "Government" is engaged in "security-oriented" suppression on the strength of the "NSL". It goes on: We will answer the violence, the last-ditch effort of the Kim Young Sam "Government," with concerted efforts. Immediately release all of the prisoners of conscience. Repeal the "NSL" and guarantee the freedom of politics and ideology. Kim Young Sam who refuses to open the "Presidential Election fund" to the public, step down at once.

Dastardly anti-DPRK smear campaign

Pyongyang, June 24 (KCNA) -- The south Korean puppets are further intensifying the anti-DPRK political propaganda through venal mass media. The south Korean newspaper Dong-A Ilbo on June 19 carried a false report provided by the puppet Agency for National Security Planning (ANSP) that a "shack-like concentration camp for political prisoners" exists on the seaside near Nampho in north Korea. This false report was also carried by the Japanese Asahi Shimbun. This is a groundless slander at the socialist system and realities of the DPRK. So, we categorically denounce their false propaganda. The clamour about "shack houses" is nothing but a false propaganda faked up by the south Korean puppets in a bid to impair the image of the DPRK. It is because there cannot exist such a camp in our country. Our people are living a happy life at modern dwelling houses under the tested leadership and benevolent care of the Workers' Party of Korea. in Nampho, a port city, stand rows of high-storied apartment houses. Our people have no worry about housing. This notwithstanding, the south Korean puppets are vociferating about "shack houses" in the suburbs of Nampho. This groundless rumour is a fake up by the puppet ANSP, a trickster against the DPRK. We cannot overlook their clamourings about "concentration camp". It is well known a fact that there is no political prisoner in the DPRK which is administering benevolent politics. Needless to say, "concentration camps for political prisoners" cannot exist in the place where there is no "political prisoner". As a matter of fact, the south Korean puppets have no face to vociferate about "concentration camps and shack houses". South Korea ranks first in the world in the number of prisons for political prisoners and shack houses. It has more than 40 prisons and detention houses in which over 63,000 innocent people are being subjected to political persecution. There are more than 500 slums in Seoul, Pusan, Taegu, Inchon and other areas of south Korea, in which 1.4 million people live in vinyl houses and dugouts. It is ridiculous of the south Korean puppets to spread a false report about "shack houses" and "concentration camp", turning a blind eye to this stark reality. The point at issue is what the "ANSP" seeks in such a third-rate anti-DPRK smear campaign. Lurking behind it is the foolish design to bridge over the ruling crisis of Kim Young Sam's "civilian"-veiled regime whose days are numbered. Their clamourings about "shack houses" and "concentration camp" are intended to escape from the present ruling crisis and divert elsewhere the attention of the political camp and people. Their attempts are, indeed, the height of shamelessness. We will on all accounts make the "ANSP" of south Korea pay for all their anti-DPRK smear campaigns including "drug case", "case of counterfeit bank notes", "black-market dealings of dollars" and the "shack-like concentration camp for political prisoners".

U.N. under-secretary general here

Pyongyang, June 24 (KCNA) -- Yasushi Akashi, U.N. under-Secretary General for Humanistic Affairs, and his entourage arrived here today.
