Adherence to three principles of national reunification called for
Pyongyang, July 4 (KCNA) -- Papers here today dedicate editorials to the 25th anniversary of the publication of the July 4 North-South Joint Statement the keynote of which is three principles of national reunification--independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity--put forward by President Kim Il Sung.
Rodong Sinmun says that the publication of the joint statement as a brilliant fruition of the president's outstanding and tested guidance over the cause of national reunification.
It goes on:
The three principles are a programme the north and south of Korea confirmed and solemnly declared at home and abroad= a charter which reflects the desire and will of the fellow countrymen for reunification= and a basis and starting-point for the settlement of reunification issue in vonformity with the will and interests of the nation.
Korea's reunification should be achieved on the three principles in any circumstances.
President Kim Il Sung and Secretary Kim Jong Il wisely led the struggle of the Korean people to carry these principles into practice. The two great leaders always worked together for national reunification.
The Kim Young Sam group, dependent upon outsiders, have stepped up frantic fascist suppression and war preparations against the northern half of Korea.
The situation prevailing in south Korea clearly shows that with the Kim Young Sam group left intact, the independent and democratic development of south Korean society cannot be expected nor can national reconciliation and unity and peace in the country and its peaceful reunification be achieved.
All the Koreans, no matter what social system they live under and what class and social strata they belong to and whether they live at home or abroad, should make every possible effort for the independent reunification of the country and the prosperity of the whole nation, guided by the idea that their destiny is directly connected with the destiny of the nation. Only when the great unity of the whole nation is achieved, is it possible to liquidate separatist forces at home and abroad and accomplish the cause of national reunification. All the Koreans in the north, south and abroad should firmly unite under the banner of great national unity and powerfully fight for the independent reunification of the country, the greatest desire of the nation.
Minju Joson says the Workers' Party of Korea and the Government of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea will as ever make every possible effort to carry the three principles of national reunification into a brilliant reality.

The letter noted that the statement based on the idea of independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity was a north-south joint declaration for reunification as well as a solemn pledge to the nation.
The three principles of national reunification, the proposal to establish the Democratic Confederal Republic of Koryo and the 10-Point Programme of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation, which were put forward by the respected President Kim Il Sung, are three major pillars and charters for national reunification, the letter said.

Crackdown on " Hanchongryon" under fire
Pyongyang, July 4 (KCNA) -- The Kim Young Sam fascist clique of south Korea arrested chairman Kang Wi Won and two other leading members of the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) on Wednesday.
In this connection papers here today run commentaries denouncing the arrest.
The news analyst of Rodong Sinmun says the arrest is an outrageous challenge to " Hanchongryon" and other forces for patriotism and democracy.
It reveals to the world once again the true colors of Kim Young Sam as the fascist dictator and the barbarous enemy of democracy, the paper stresses, and further says:
The arrest of " Hanchongryon" chairman shows the fascist clique's " operation to wipe out Hanchongryon" is extremely ruthless.
" Hanchongryon" has taken the lead in the struggle for independence, democracy and reunification. But the Kim Young Sam group, a peerless gang of fascist murderers, are trying to disorganize and stifle this organization so as to check the struggle of democratic forces and save their lives from the jaw of death.
Military conspiracy
Pyongyang, July 4 (KCNA -- Some time ago, the Director-General of the Defence Agency of Japan said over NHK Radio that in case of " regional disputes" , commanders of the " Self-Defence Forces" (SDF) may be allowed to decide on logistic support to the U.S. troops, according to a Kyodo report from Tokyo.
The J1panese constitution prohibits the " SDF" from rendering military support to the U.S. troops in the " event of contingency". Moreover, the recently-published interim report on the review of " Japan-U.S. Defence Cooperation Guidelines" failed to extend the scope of Japan's support to the United States even to battlefields, afraid of public protests and denunciation.
The interim report limited the scope to high seas and international airspace distinct from " battlefields" .
However, Japan schemes to allow " SDF" commanders to decide on this ambiguous scope and thus realise " SDF's" unlimited military support to the united states.
U.S. scheme to keep its troops in Japan
Pyongyang, July 4 (KCNA) -- Campbell, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, on June 30 told a joint delegation of Japanese political parties on a visit to the United States that the U.S. is willing to discuss the reduction of U.S. troops stationed in Japan if the situation on the Korean Peninsula is stabilized, according to a Kyodo report from Washington.
He hoped for endless maintenance of the Japan-U.S. military alliance, claiming that military activities in north Korea are being observed, said the report.
His utterances eloquently reveal the design of the U.S. military to keep the U.S. troops stationed in Japan on the plea of the tense situation on the Korean Peninsula when their presence cannot be justified after the end of the Cold War, tighten military pressure on the DPRK and more frantically stage moves of aggression and war in the Asia-Pacific region.
