Paper on fascist campaign in s. Korea

Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- The Kim Young Sam fascist regime held a trial of students arrested for involvement in the new-term ceremony of the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) and demanded prison terms of up to five years for twelve of them. The regime threatens to prosecute the officials of "Hanchongryon" who dispatched delegates to the 14th World Festival of Youth and Students as well as the delegates on charges of violation of the "National Security Law." Rodong Sinmun today brands this as proof that the fascist campaign to stifle "Hanchongryon" has gone to the extreme. The news analyst says: It is well known that "Hanchongryon" takes independence, democracy and reunification as its objectives and has held its new-term ceremonies in a peaceful way every year. It is only too natural that "Hanchongryon" should dispatch its delegates to the 14th World Festival of Youth and Students. The puppets are making rash activities to stifle "Hanchongryon." Fascist repression is not almighty. The Kim Young Sam regime's repression is a last-ditch effort of the doomed.

KSC spokesman calls for unity of pro-reunification forces in s. Korea

Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- The spokesman for the Korean Student Committee issued a statement today on the decision of dissident organisations in south Korea to exclude the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) and the south headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification (Pomminryon) from the pro-reunification events slated for August 15 this year. The spokesman says: The Kim Young Sam regime is employing every conceivable means to disunite the south headquarters of Pomminryon and "Hanchongryon" through the puppet Agency for National Security Planning (ANSP). The exclusion of these organisations from the August 15 pro-reunification festival which is said to include broad segments of the masses is as good as denying the movement for independence, democracy and reunification. What we should be watchful for is not only the Kim Young Sam regime's overt repression of the reunification movement but also the activity of the puppet ANSP, defence security command and other intelligence services to disunite the pro-reunification forces from within. The fascist campaign in south Korea urges the pro-reunification, pro-democracy forces to unite closer than ever before. These forces have shared weal and woe in the course of arduous struggle. They have more common points than differences and better conditions for unity than ever before. The Korean Student Committee hopes that the dissident organisations in south Korea will resolutely smash the intrigues of the puppet ANSP and hold the August 15 events jointly with "Hanchongryon" and Pomminryon's south headquarters at a time when the downfall of Kim Young Sam regime is in sight.

Symposium on Secy. Kim Jong Il's work

Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- A symposium of the DPRK philosophical society was held here on Tuesday to make a deep study of ideas and theories Secretary Kim Jong Il laid down in his celebrated work "On Preserving the Juche Character and National Character of the Revolution and Construction". Speakers there stressed that preserving the Juche character and national character is a question of key importance on which depends the victory of the revolution and construction and it is a question vital to the destinies of the country and the nation. They said that the national character of the revolutionary people is shaped and developed by a great leader, that the working class spirit and the national character are in unbreakable and close unity for their commonness and that the greatness of the leader is the most decisive factor in displaying the superiority of the nation. The Korean people could become a great nation as they were led by President Kim Il Sung, the speakers stated. They said the kernel of the Kim Il Sung nation's character is loyalty and filial piety to their leader, which is the best manifestation of its excellent character and a foundation of all its superiority.

Large-scale weapon import contract for war against north

Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- The south Korean puppet clique made a contract with the United States for import of weapons worth more than 340 million dollars on July 15, according to a radio report from Seoul. The weapons from the United States include attack missiles and other attack equipment for the army. The puppets' contract with the united states is a very ill-boding movement. This reveals that the Kim Young Sam group facing ruin are finding a way out of the crisis in igniting a war against the north with the backing of the U.S. imperialists, their master.

U.S urged to make sincere efforts for Korean reunification

Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- Hanan Mollah, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and member of Parliament, and Shamin Paizwe member of the Central Executive Committee of the National Council of the Communist Party of India and Chief Editor of the Indian Newspaper New Age, were interviewed by the KCNA New Delhi correspondent on July 23 and 24 respectively with the approach of the 44th anniversary of the victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War. Hanan Mollah said the war was a just one of the Korean people for defending peace and the country's dignity and sovereignty. The world's progressive people will always remember the world-historic exploits of President Kim Il Sung, who led the war to victory, he added. Shamin Paizwe said Korea has not been reunified though some 40 years have passed since the ceasefire in the country. It is attributable to the Korea policy of the United States seeking a military purpose, he said, and continued: Since the Cold War was terminated, the united states has found no reason to keep a large number of troops and mass destruction weapons any longer in south Korea. The U.S. should reshape the Korea policy in keeping with the trend of the time and make sincere efforts for Korean reunification as demanded by the world peaceloving people.

Utterance intended to invade Korea again

Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- Kato, Secretary General of the Japan Liberal Democratic Party, gave utterance to the real intention of the Japanese reactionaries to push ahead with the "review of the Japan-U.S. defense cooperation guidelines" to achieve their wild design for reinvasion of Korea, according to a report. During his foreign tour some time ago, he said that the review of the guidelines is to cope with an "emergency" in north Korea. He showed up at the Asahi TV broadcasting program on July 27 and justified his remarks, saying that most of people imaged an emergency in north Korea while consulting the review of the guidelines and that it is very sensible. His utterance reveals that the Japanese reactionaries have constantly taken the Korean Peninsula for the first target in achieving their wild design for criminal overseas expansion and are taking an active part in the U.S. manoeuvres to stifle the DPRK under the pretext of "'emergency' in north Korea".

Blessed Korean women

Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- A nine-article law on sex equality was promulgated in Korea on July 30, 1946. This was a historic event which brought about a radical change in the Korean women's socio-political, economic and cultural position. The law frees the Korean women from ages-old feudal oppression and humiliation and enables them to take an active part in political, economic and cultural activities of the country on an equal footing with men. All women have the right to elect and the right to be elected. The proportion of women to the deputies to the Supreme People's Assembly is 20.1 percent. The state provides women with conditions to work in different sectors of the national economy according to their ability and aptitude. Women with more than three children work six hours a day and are paid as much as those who work eight hours a day. Women are prohibited from doing difficult and hard labor. Everywhere women work there are creches and kindergartens run at state and public expenses. Women enjoy benefits including paid maternity leave. Thanks to these benefits from the state, female proportion to labor in the national economy is 49.5 percent and that to the ranks of technicians and specialists is 42.5 percent.
