Reunification function frustrated in s. Korea

Pyongyang, August 5 (KCNA) -- The Kim Young Sam fascist clique of south Korea frustrated the inaugural ceremony of an across-the-country pilgrimage squad of the reunification vanguard of the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) on August 3, according to a radio report from Seoul. Informed of the plan of "Hanchongryon" to hold the inaugural ceremony at Chungnam National University, the South Chungchong Provincial Police Bureau deployed more than 1,000 policemen of 9 companies around the university from August 2 to stop students from attending it. The police arrested more than 10 students and brought the ceremony to a rupture. The fascist clique are keeping a watchful eye on the surroundings of the university, alleging that the inaugural ceremony may be held prior to the start of the pilgrimage slated for August 4.

Rodong Sinmun supports defense of "Hanchongryon"

Pyongyang, August 5 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today supports the south Korean students in their struggle to defend the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) in the teeth of the Kim Young Sam fascist clique's moves to disorganize and obliterate it. Referring to the struggle of students of Chongju University, Chosun University and other universities and colleges under "Hanchongryon" to defend their organisation, the news analyst says: This is an expression of the unanimous will and struggle of the south Korean students to firmly defend their organisation and realize their just cause in defiance of the suppression offensive of the fascist clique. No matter how desperately the Kim Young Sam group may try, it is in vain. "Hanchongryon", convinced of the validity of its cause, will never be disorganized and obliterated but will discharge its mission and role as the vanguard of the movement for independence, democracy and reunification. The Kim Young Sam group must clearly see the situation, stop fascist sword-brandishing against "Hanchongryon" and release all the arrested guiltless, patriotic students at once.

"Ulji Focus Lens" to be mounted

Pyongyang, August 5 (KCNA) -- The "combined forces command" of south Korea and the United States on August 4 made public a plan to stage "Ulji Focus Lens" joint military manoeuvres from Aug. 18 to 29, according to radio reports from Seoul. The provocative manoeuvres were reported to be involved by the south Korean puppet army and the U.S. troops of the three services and marine corps present in south Korea, more than 16,500 in all, and major administrative institutions of the puppet Government. The war racket is said to be a "general commanding drill" to cope with war time. This vividly proves that the U.S. imperialists and the south Korean puppets are actually stepping up adventurous war preparations against the northern half of Korea.

Cause of Korea's reunification supported

Pyongyang, August 5 (KCNA) -- Public figures of Guinea and Uganda made public statements to mark the month of international solidarity with the Korean people and the 25th anniversary of the publication of the July 4 Joint Statement. In his statement dated July 27, Mamadou Ali Sampil, Chairman of the Guinean Committee for Supporting Korea's reunification, expressed firm support for the Korean people in their struggle for national reunification. He said that if peace is to be ensured on the Korean Peninsula an end should be put to any outside interference and the question of Korea's reunification should be solved by the Korean people themselves. The United States should immediately withdraw its forces from south Korea and the south Korean rulers should take a sincere attitude toward the settlement of the reunification issue, not taking a stance of division and confrontation, and affirmatively respond to the initiatives of the DPRK in proposing the reasonable way for peaceful reunification, he held. "We express the firm belief that Korea will be reunified without fail under the wise guidance of his excellency the great Kim Jong Il," he stressed. David, deputy Director of the Ugandan Newspaper Lipoota, said in his statement on July 15 that the publication of the July 4 North-South Joint Statement 25 years ago, keynote of which is the three principles of independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity, was a victory of the line of national independence over dependence on outside forces, of the line of peaceful reunification over reunification by armed forces and of the line of great national unity over north-south confrontation. President Kim Il Sung, he said, was the top brain of the Korean nation, who coordinated their demand for independence and interests, and the centre of national unity, the centre of leadership. He said, "we extend firm solidarity to the Korean people's struggle, with the belief that the sacred cause of Korea's reunification will be achieved without fail under the leadership of his excellency the great Kim Jong Il, who is carrying forward the President's cause of reunification."

Kim Young Sam caricatured

Pyongyang, August 5 (KCNA) -- South Korean publications gave caricatures of Kim Young Sam who is in a crisis over the "presidential election" fund problem. A caricature printed in the magazine Wolgan Chosun shows in the upper part the Chairman of the Hanbo group, Chung Tae Soo sitting astride of a bent chimney of a factory, holding in his arms a large bundle "92 Presidential Election" fund, and behind it, a black stone mountain "Presidential Election political situation" exploding, belching fire, and in the lower part Kim Young Sam shouting with a loud speaker "let us gird ourselves to revive the economy". Another magazine Hangyore 21 carried a caricature describing Kim Dae Jung and Kim Jong Pil, on the back of a turtle "Presidential Election" fund on the sea, urging Kim Young Sam sitting on the head of the turtle to open to the public the "Presidential Election" fund. A newspaper Choongang Ilbo also made a caricature of "three Kims' politics" in a plane. The caricature shows that Kim Dae Jung and Kim Jong Pil poke a lump of blasting powder at Kim Young Sam holding a control lever and threaten him to open to the public the "Presidential Election" fund and he answers that if he dies, all of them will die. The magazine insider world carried a cartoon, which describes Kim Dae Jung and Kim Jong Pil pressing Kim Young Sam while opening to the public even the sum of "60 billion" and "90 billion" among the people calling for the opening to the public of the "92 Presidential Election" fund, and Kim Young Sam having heavy sweating behind the scenes to let his agent erase the figures indicating the "total amount of the election fund" written on his back.

"Internationalisation" and "globalisation" to violate and obliterate national character

Pyongyang, August 5 (KCNA) -- The Kim Young Sam group's clamour for "internationalisation" and "globalisation" is a dirty treachery of selling all the soul, dignity and interests of the nation to foreign forces, says Rodong Sinmun in a signed article today. The "internationalisation" and "globalisation" proved reactionary with all policies being pursued by Kim in an effort to promote them, the article says, and goes on: Kim weakened or withdrew the formal regulations to prevent foreign capital from infiltrating into south Korea. His moves for "internationalisation" and "globalisation" went the length of introducing the erotic culture of Japan which has so far been prohibited. The humiliating out-door policy which is being pursued in the name of "internationalisation" and "globalisation" allows American, Japanese and western fashions to flood in all spheres of politics, the economy and culture. In south Korea all social life, ranging from the mode of politics, the language, written and spoken, to the way of life, has been Americanized, Japanized and westernized, foreign forces are lording it over, and the national character and dignity are being wantonly violated and obliterated. The soul of the nation and beautiful manners and customs are now vanishing root and branch in south Korea. Kim Young Sam's clamour for "internationalisation" and "globalisation" brings profits to foreign forces and comprador businesses and does harm to the south Korean people. Indelible is the crime of Kim Young Sam justifying outside domination and plunder of south Korea with clamour for "internationalisation" and "globalisation" and remaining in power with outside backing.

Foreign Ministry spokesman on Asean statement

Pyongyang, August 5 (KCNA) -- The spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in an interview with KCNA today commented on the statement of the Chairman of the Fourth Asean Regional Forum, which mentioned the Korean issue. He told KCNA: The statement says the establishment of a new peace mechanism on the Korean Peninsula is urgent, but it is necessary to implement the obligations under the present armistice agreement at this moment for peace and stability in this part of the world. We consider that this is similar to our position and is a relatively correct assessment of the Korean issue. As we have declared time and again, a new peace mechanism should be set up without fail in order to avert the recurrence of war and preserve a lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula. This DPRK-proposed mechanism means an institutional device for control over the Military Demarcation Line and the Demilitarized Zone and for prevention of armed conflict and accident. The DPRK and the united states are chief parties to the mechanism. Now that the armistice system is paralyzed by the U.S. side, it is an urgent task to open DPRK-U.S. military talks at general level and create a new binding institutional mechanism to replace the armistice body. In case negotiation takes place over these matters, we are ready to take a flexible attitude. As a matter of course, we think the Korean Armistice Agreement should be maintained until a new institutional mechanism is established to replace the present armistice body. In actuality we are still observing the principles of the Korean Armistice Agreement. We will continue patient efforts to establish a new peace mechanism on the Korean Peninsula.
