GFTUK Chairman favors Secy. Kim Jong Il's work
Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- Ju Song Il, Chairman of the Central Committee of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea, released a statement on Monday supporting Secretary Kim Jong Il's work "Let Us Carry Out the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung's Instructions for National Reunification".
He said the work, which fully reflects the Workers' Party of Korea's ideas and policies for national reunification, serves as the nation's common programme and an inspiring banner which makes it possible to thwart the obstructive acts of the local and foreign separatists and achieve the independent and peaceful reunification of the country without fail.
Secretary Kim Jong Il not only clarified principled matters arising in improving inter-Korean relations but declared that if the south Korean authorities make a positive change in practice, there would be open-hearted negotiations anytime to discuss the destiny of the nation and joint efforts made for national reunification.
He said anyone who values the destiny of the country and the nation and truly wants the reunification, whether he be in the north or south, should turn out in the movement for reunification, regarding Secretary Kim Jong Il's highly important work as the nation's common charter of reunification, irrespective of ideology, system and property.
National seminar on educational theses
Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA)-- A national seminar took place here on Monday to mark the 20th anniversary of the publication of President Kim Il Sung's work "Theses on Socialist Education".
It was stressed at the seminar that the theses have served as an immortal education programme indicating the way of training Juche-type communist revolutionaries and also as guidelines which should be taken in rearing revolutionaries.
Speakers said the basic principles of socialist pedagogy which were clarified by President Kim Il Sung in the work give a perfect exposition of traits and quality of communist human beings and the law governing their training and also indicate a correct way of preserving the Juche character and national character in education and preparing rising generations to be true heirs to the revolutionary cause of Juche.
They said the fundamental improvement of educational methods and strengthening of the party's leadership over education definitely guarantee the development of education in Korean way and a radical turn in education.
The seminar was attended by Choe Thae Bok, Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea Central Committee, Jang Chol, Vice-Premier of the Administration Council, and other officials.
Minju Joson on Kim Young Sam group's vicious smear campaign
Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- The Kim Young Sam group are now creating a terror-ridden atmosphere among Korean-Americans in connection with the permanent residence of O Ik Je in the northern half of Korea.
Reactionary organisations of Koreans in the United States are clamouring that they would strongly cope with the "operations" of the Jongum Tourist Company over O Ik Je's permanent residence in the DPRK.
Branding this racket as a vicious smear campaign manipulated by the south Korean rulers, a news analyst of Minju Joson today says:
"Operations" of manager of the company Kim Chung Ja over the permanent residence of O Ik Je are a fiction faked up by Agency for National Security Planning.
She accompanied O Ik Je to Beijing from Los Angeles for her business activities in the Beijing-based branch of her company and to help the old O Ik Je in his tour at his request.
O has come to the DPRK for permanent residence according to his own faith and will, not by "operations" by someone.
It is ridiculous for the south Korean rulers to try to brand him as a "spy" of the north.
The south Korean would be well advised to keep mum instead of resorting to dastardly smear campaign.
Rodong Sinmun on suppression of Hanchongryon in south Korea
Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today comes out with a signed commentary denouncing the fascist outrage of the south Korean rulers against the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon).
A few days ago, the south Korean puppets held a trial for 34 students who had been detained for involvement in an inaugural ceremony of new-term Hanchongryon. At the trial, they sentenced 11 students to prison terms on charges of interfering in the performance of special official duties and 23 other students to prison terms of one year and 6 months and two-year suspension of execution.
Commenting on this outrage, the news analyst of the paper says:
With the crazy Kim Young Sam group left intact, the south Korean students and people can not escape from bloodbath nor can they achieve the reunification of the country nor can they exist.
Therefore, they must ruthlessly overthrow this group of fascist tyrants.
KDLA denounces s. Korean puppets' fascist smear campaign against Korean-Americans
Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- The Korean Democratic Lawyers Association published a statement on Monday denouncing the Kim Young Sam fascist clique for revealing their attempt to persecute innocent Korean-Americans over the permanent residence in the DPRK of O Ik Je, former leader of the central headquarters of Chondoism in south Korea.
The south Korean puppets branded Kim Chung Ja, manager of the Jongum Tourist Company in Los Angeles, the United States, and her husband who helped o on his way to the north as "pro-north spies" and are trying to put pressure on them by mobilizing the "association of south Koreans" and the "Agency for National Security Planning". This is a premeditated move to foster the contradiction and division in the Korean-American community and incite anti-north feelings= it shows clearly that the puppets are trying to more brutally suppress the patriotic overseas Koreans longing for the DPRK on this occasion, the statement said, and went on:
O decided on his permanent residence in the north by his faith and will, not by anyone's threat and appeasement.
He was once blocked from leaving south Korea and was deprived of his passport but this time he could leave south Korea because he had protested and taken back the passport.
Kim Chung Ja helped O Ik Je to defect to the north at his request. This is only natural and there is no reason to incriminate her from the humanitarian point of view and in view of the duty of the tourist company guiding and serving tourists.
This notwithstanding, the south Korean puppets are putting pressure upon her and persecuting her. This is a heinous illegal act to trample underfoot even the free expression of will and the activities of overseas Koreans.
Worse still, it is unpardonable that the south Korean puppets, upset by O's permanent residence in the north, are scheming to incite antagonism against the north in the Korean-American community, talking as if he could do so by the help of a "pro-north spy".
We can never remain silent to the puppets' grave acts to persecute overseas Koreans by branding them as "pro-north spies", and if the puppets continue suppressing Korean-Americans in spite of our warnings, we will take a relevant step.
We express the belief that the overseas Koreans' organisations and compatriots in all parts of the world will denounce the Kim Young Sam group's suppression of Korean-Americans and make the group pay dearly for it.
And we believe that judicial circles and progressive lawyers of all countries will bitterly denounce the south Korean authorities' unjust suppression of overseas compatriots and make a grave protest against it.
Foreign Ministry spokesman accuses the U.S. of anti-DPRK policy
Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- The United States, which started joint military manoeuvres codenamed "Ulji Focus Lens", is trying to exclude the Korean Peninsula in an international treaty of ban on landmines under the pretext of "threat from north Korea", and has brought depleted uranium bullets to south Korea from its Okinawa Military Base. The fact indicates that the U.S. policy of stifling the DPRK by force of arms has remained unchanged.
The spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea said this when he was interviewed by KCNA over the escalating anti-DPRK moves of the United States.
The spokesman told KCNA:
Threat of war comes from the south, not from the north, in the Korean Peninsula and it is presented by the U.S. military presence in south Korea.
If peace and security are to be ensured substantially in the peninsula, the U.S. Forces should withdraw from south Korea without delay.
Japan urged to liquidate its past crimes
Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- A Korean delegate made a speech in the discussion of the 6th agenda item of the 49th session of the U.N. sub-commission on prevention of discrimination and protection of minorities held in Geneva on August 19.
He expressed deep concern over Japan resorting to deceptive methods to cover up the past crimes with "Asia Peace National Fund for Women", instead of admitting its legal responsibility for the unethical crimes against "Comfort Women for the Army".
The victims demanded the Japanese Government make an apology based on its admission of the legal responsibility with such practical action as the state compensation, he said.
He stressed that Japan must open to the public all the documents recording the crimes it has concealed for a long time, make a sincere apology to all the victims, remove the "National Fund" and liquidate the past crimes in the name of the state and Government.
"Ulji Focus Lens" under fire
Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- Ri Jong Hwal, Chairman of the Association of Koreans in Japan for the Peaceful Reunification, made public a statement on August 23 to flail the aggressive "Ulji Focus Lens" joint military exercises being staged by the U.S. imperialists and the south Korean puppets.
The statement said that the situation on the Korean Peninsula is being pushed to an unpredictably tense phase owing to the "Ulji Focus Lens".
It vehemently denounced the Kim Young Sam puppet clique as the group of sworn enemy of the nation and vicious war maniacs who are desperately trying to plunge the fellow countrymen into the holocaust of nuclear war, not concerned about the destiny of the nation.
S. Koreans sure of reunification
Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- Members of the April 15 Fellowship Society Active in west gate district held a lecture meeting on August 14, a day before the anniversary of the country's liberation, Seoul-based radio Voice of National Salvation quoted the Seoul City Committee of the National Democratic Front of South Korea (NDFSK) as saying.
In his lecture titled "national liberation and its significance" Kim Pyong Mo, Chairman of the society, said the liberation of the country was a splendid fruition of the hard-fought anti-Japanese war guided by President Kim Il Sung.
He was a genuine, peerless patriot who gave the pleasure of liberation to the ruined Korean nation, Kim Pyong Mo said, and continued:
A tragic reality has still existed in south Korea under the influence of outsiders. The day when foreign forces are withdrawn and the north and the south reunified can no longer remain a desire.
We are guided by Secretary Kim Jong Il, who is identical to President Kim Il Sung. He is the destiny of the Korean nation, the savior of our people and the leader of the reunification cause.
The country will surely be reunified because he has devoted himself to the cause.
Swimming brisk on the Taedong River
Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- Korean schoolchildren have enjoyed maritime physical culture since their vacation began early in August.
The Taedong River which flows through Pyongyang into the west sea, is now a good place of swimming for children.
Hundreds of children dive into the river in groups, signalled by alarm gun reports. It takes only 10 minutes for them to cross the river by swimming.
Maritime physical culture is encouraged in Korea seabound on three sides and blessed with many rivers and streams.
July and August are months of maritime physical culture in Korea.
During the months youth league organizations and schools conduct activities for popularizing maritime physical culture. This year's main goal is to increase the children's capacity of swimming across the river.
Many boys and girls can cross the river by swimming, attaining the goal set by schools.
Some 10,000 schoolchildren in Sungho district, Pyongyang, have already swum across the Taedong River during the months.
Rodong Sinmun calls for smashing imperialists' reactionary offensive with revolutionary offensive
Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- To decisively smash the reactionary offensive of the imperialists with the revolutionary offensive is the fundamental principle and strategy of the revolutionary struggle of the popular masses for independence.
Rodong Sinmun says this in a signed article today.
The daily notes:
The reactionary offensive of the imperialists is greatly endangering all aspects and growing intensive in different forms.
The imperialists are describing the collapse of socialism and restoration of capitalism in some countries as proof of "superiority" and "eternity" of capitalism and trying to make the people abandon the faith in socialism and long for and choose capitalism.
They are threatening small and weak countries militarily and making them accept their demand of aggression and openly committing armed invasion and war against the countries that go against the grain with them and counter them.
Their reactionary offensive is intensifying in the ideological and cultural sectors, too. owing to this, the imperialist ideologies and culture and way of life infiltrate into some countries so as to destroy the sound mental and moral life and bring about ideological degeneration and confusion and rid them of the Juche character and national character.
One of the important requirements in strengthening the revolutionary offensive against the imperialists is to have a correct understanding of imperialism and take a strong stand and attitude toward it.
The imperialists are blustering and intensifying the reactionary offensive. This is the last-ditch effort to conceal the poor plight in which their power is weakening and the sphere of domination shrinking and to avoid their decline and ruin.
The world progressive people should see clearly the vulnerability of imperialism and approach it with a strong attitude. They should strengthen the joint struggle against the imperialists' policy of obliterating other nations and the dominationist manoeuvres. And they should never allow the imperialists' policy of interfering in other countries' internal affairs and infiltrating bourgeois ideologies and culture.
When the world revolutionary people strengthen the revolutionary offensive with high consciousness and independent stand, the reactionary offensive of the imperialists will face ruin.
Rodong Sinmun on remarks obstructing peace and peaceful reunification
Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Tuesday carries a signed article on the nonsensical remarks made by those responsible for the improvement of the inter-Korean relations and the DPRK-U.S. issue.
Recently, Kim Young Sam of south Korea provoked the north, calling for "mutual respect for the entity of the south and north", and some American officials made nonsensical utterances urging the DPRK to begin north-south dialogue before the establishment of the DPRK-U.S. diplomatic relations.
Talking about the "respect for the entity", Kim Young Sam prattled that the north-south relations have not been improved owing to lack of this respect. This is a nonsensical sophism.
The south Korean authorities are not entitled to talk about "respect for the entity". It is Kim Young Sam who cried that the compatriots in the north should be seen as the "enemy", not as the fellow countrymen, and it is he who was loudmouthed about "unification by northward invasion", saying that the "unification under the liberal democratic system" is his "aim" and "dream".
The "respect for the entity" called for by the South Korean Chief Executive is no more than an outcry for confirming the existence of the "two Koreas" in the north and south and a criminal attempt to find a way out in confrontation with the fellow countrymen with the help of outsiders.
It is nonsensical for the United States to say that the inter-Korean dialogue should precede the improvement of the DPRK-U.S. relations.
We declare once again that the united states must discontinue such perfidious remarks as instigating the south Korean authorities to confrontation with the north while calling for inter-Korean dialogue, and using it for political pressure upon the DPRK.
The United States must not mistake or doubt our principled stand.
Whether we make a dialogue with anyone or not is the question pertaining to our sovereignty= we will do what we should for the improvement of the inter-Korean relations when the time comes even though the United States does not put its nose into it.
We advise the united states and the south Korean authorities to have a reasonable and correct attitude and stand toward Korea's reunification and solution of the Korean question.
Rodong Sinmun calls for loving young people
Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- The revolutionary slogan "Love the young people !" set forth by Secretary Kim Jong Il, helps to solve the youth affairs, the issue decisive of the revolution and future as well as the most important and serious problem of the world at present.
Rodong Sinmun stresses this in a political essay today.
In Korea the forthcoming 28th of August is the 6th anniversary of Youth Day.
Secretary Km Jong Il put forward this slogan with his warm love for the future and iron will to accomplish through generations the cause of Juche started by President Kim Il Sung, the essay says.
It says the slogan, set when young people in the west and countries where socialism collapsed have become mentally corrupted and got involved in crimes, is as high as sky and as heavy as earth.
The slogan is a great wise remark that could be made only by Secretary Kim Jong Il, the great heart and a great saint of revolution who is fully responsible for the past, present and future of people and leads the nation and humankind to victory, taking charge of their destinies, it stresses, and goes on:
Even in socialist society, if younger generations are not educated in a proper way, it is impossible not only to prepare them as heirs to the revolution and the main driving forces but also to defend socialism.
The Workers' Party of Korea strictly educates and builds up the young people in a revolutionary way not only for the present but also for the future of even one hundred years and the final victory of the revolution.
Secretary Kim Jong Il trains the Korean youths to be strong men in aspects of idea, faith and moral obligation, with such idea, faith and moral obligation as regarding it as the noblest duty to exalt the brilliance of the feats of the revolutionary forerunners and hold in high esteem for all ages the leader representing them.
All the leadership and virtues of the General are linked with love for the young people.
He always takes warm care of the youth, and the young people devotedly defend him with unfailing loyalty. This is the great and proud appearance of the Korean youth, which is now being demonstrated to the world.

Youth Day
Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNAna) -- The 28th of August is "Youth Day" in Korea.
Greeting their holiday, the young Korean people are now recalling the story of its institution.
One day in May 1990, Secretary Kim Jong Il proposed to institute a day for the young people, saying President Kim Il Sung as well as the youth will be very happy with it.
And he said it would be advisable to set as youth day the most significant of days when President Kim Il Sung guided the youth affairs. This proposal came from his sense of obligation and intention to give the great happiness in the name of the President to the young people.
President Kim Il Sung agreed to the proposal with pleasure and gave a written instruction that it would be good to set as the Youth Day August 28, 1927, when the Young Communist League of Korea was founded.
Thus, the institution of the "Youth Day" was proclaimed on February 1, 1991.
On August 26 that year, Secretary Kim Jong Il sent a letter "young men and women, be the vanguard unfailingly loyal to the party and the leader" to the young people throughout the country on the occasion of the youth day. In the letter he indicated the tasks of further developing the youth movement to meet the demand of the developing revolution.
On Jan. 19, 1996, he attended the Conference of the League of Socialist Working Youth of Korea to award the League Flag Bearing the Portrait of President Kim Il Sung to the youth and declare the birth of the glorious Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League.
On August 24 he published his discourse "Let us exalt the brilliance of comrade Kim Il Sung's idea on the youth movement and the achievements made under his leadership" on the 5th anniversary of the Youth Day.
In the discourse he stressed that the youth league of Korea should be the eternal youth league of President Kim Il Sung and the Korean youth movement should develop into a youth movement of Juche as indicated by the President.
Indeed, Secretary Kim Jong Il is the great leader of the Korean youth movement, who, in his early years, fully personified the President's idea on the youth movement and has led the movement to brilliant victory.
Famous Pakyon Falls
Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- 40 years ago today President Kim Il Sung visited the Pakyon Falls, one of the three famous falls of Korea.
The President visited Pakyon about 24 km north of Kaesong, the city adjacent to the demarcation line, in 1957.
He looked round the falls, the north gate and the Kwanum Temple. He said that Pakyon is a scenic place with good historic remains and that Pakyon should be turned into a resort for working people by managing it well.
The Pakyon Falls, which was a resort of exploiting classes, has become a recreation ground of working people.
The falls is 37 metres high. There are also Komo Pond 40 metres in diametre and a round rock named after dragon.
On the east hill of the pond is a pavilion called Pomsajong and the falls flow down from Pakyon Pond 8 metres in diametre.
On the cliffs surrounding the falls, all kinds of flowers are full in bloom in spring. They are covered with green foliage in summer, with red and yellow leaves in autumn and with frostwork in winter.
There are Kwanum Temple, Taehung Temple and other relics and a lot of famous verses composed by ancestors.
Many foreign and home people tour Pakyon these days.
Brisk assistance to tidal wave-hit areas
Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- The officers and men of the Korean People's Army are actively helping the people in the tidal wave-hit areas.
On August 25, servicemen of the Ministry of the People's Armed Forces and the units stationed in Pyongyang went to Sukchon and Mundok counties of South Phyongan Province with more than 1,126,600 items of relief materials of over 250 kinds loaded in scores of trucks.
Clothes, kitchen utensils, school things and other daily necessaries were handed to the inhabitants of the afflicted areas.
In the meantime, KPA soldiers have risen up in the campaign to clear away damage caused by tidal waves.
Participating in the campaign on the west coast are military academies at all levels including Kim Il Sung Military University, Kim Il Sung Political University and Kim Hyong Jik Military Medical University and KPA units.
They are now removing a large quantity of mud every day in South Phyongan Province and North Phyongan Province and South Hwanghae Province.
A vast rehabilitation work is going on at a fast speed thanks to the united strength of the army and the people.
Gift to Secy. Kim Jong Il from Japanese guest
Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) - Secretary Kim Jong Il received a gift from the visiting social-democratic member of the House of Representatives of Japan, Hajime Fukada.
Hajime Fukada asked Kim Yong Sun, Chairman of the Korean Asia-Pacific Peace Committee and Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, to convey the gift to Secy. Kim Jong Il.
