Rodong Sinmun calls for enhanced position, role of NAM

Pyongyang, September 1 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today dedicates an article to the day of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). The daily says: NAM has made a historic contribution to the time and humankind. It has strengthened the world's pro-independence forces, rejected the imperialists' dominationist policies and propelled the world movement for independence, maintaining its intrinsic character as powerful anti-imperialist revolutionary force of the present age and exercising its influence. In this way, it has demonstrated its vitality. Consolidating NAM unity and strengthening solidarity among its member nations is vital to non-aligned countries in playing a positive role for the establishment of a new fair international order and a solution to international problems. Non-aligned countries should call for reforms of the United Nations on the basis of demand, desire and interests of developing nations and keep specified countries from taking privilege in the united nations, holding sway over the world politics and unreasonably dealing with important matters concerning international life in compliance with their own selfish demand and purpose. Expanding and developing south-south cooperation is one of essential ways for increasing the might of NAM and ensuring independent development of non-aligned countries. Only when non-aligned countries remain faithful to the NAM idea can NAM emerge victorious. The Democratic People's Republic of Korea, a dignified member nation of NAM, will strive hard for its strengthening and development and progress of the world movement for independence.

Rodong Sinmun on worthwhile life of Korean people

Pyongyang, September 1 (KCNA) -- The Korean people regard it as their most worthwhile life to uphold Secretary Kim Jong Il and live and work in perfect harmony with him, said Rodong Sinmun in a signed article August 31. The life of the Korean people who form a harmonious whole with the General is a revolutionary life to glorify their noblest political integrity. This is why they have unbendingly advanced the revolution with an unshakable faith, not wavering under any obstacles and trials. The General is the mental pillar and the eternal sun to the Korean people. As they are in harmonious whole with him, they are enjoying a true life based on pure conscience and obligation. O Ik Je's permanent residence in the DPRK supported in s. Korea

Pyongyang, September 1 (KCNA) -- South Korean people welcomed the permanent residence in the northern half of Korea of O Ik Je, advisor to the National Congress for New Politics, advisor to the National Congress for the Independent and Peaceful Reunification and Former Leader of the central headquarters of Chondoism of south Korea, and vehemently denounced the repressive campaign of Kim Young Sam group, according to the Seoul-based radio Voice of National Salvation. Kim Jong Ryol, a dissident figure under the National Alliance for Democracy and Reunification in south Korea, had this to say: The people who are concerned about the future of the nation and are desirous of the reunification of the country are ardently sympathying with the north led by Secretary Kim Jong Il, the destiny of the nation and lodestar of reunification. O Ik Je took the road to the north as Kim Ku, Kim Kyu Sik and other patriotic-minded people, as well as Choe Tok Sin, Choe Hong Hui, Mun Ik Hwan and other pro-reunification patriotic figures had done. Now, the feelings of the entire people in the south are running along this road. Kim Song Ha, a student of Seoul National University, said: The Kim Young Sam group are trying to use the defection of former Chondoist leader O Ik Je for their criminal political purpose. Neither national reconciliation nor unity can be achieved unless such a group of criminals who unhesitatingly commit despicable and dastardly things for the prolongation of their power and vested rights are removed. Kim Jong Ho, a religionist in Seoul, said: The authorities, branding O Ik Je as a "spy", are spreading rumours that he has defected to the north at the instigation of other people. This is an unpardonable insult to the religious belief and a prelude to their Campaign of new "security"-oriented suppression of religious circles.
