175th anniversary of Independence of Brazil marked in Korea

Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- A meeting was held in Pyongyang on September 5 under the sponsorship of the Korea-Brazil Friendship Association to mark the 175th anniversary of the Independence of Brazil. Present there were Ryang Tal Ju, vice-chairman of the society for cultural relations with foreign countries and chairman of the Korea-Brazil Friendship Association, officials of the association and working people in the city. The chairman of the association made a speech at the meeting.

DPRK Foreign Ministry spokesman on Israeli Prime Minister's tour of south Korea

Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- The spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea today gave answers to questions put by KCNA over the south Korean visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Drawing attention to the fact that the south Korean authorities had closed-door confabs with the Israeli Prime Minister on the issue of expanding military "cooperation" against the DPRK and Mid-East Arab nations, the spokesman said: This is an ample evidence of the double-dealing tactics of the south Korean authorities toward Arab nations and Israel and their anti-Arab, anti-peace design. Accordingly, it is a grave challenge to mid-east countries which aspire after peace. During his south Korean tour, the Israeli Prime Minister clamoured about "DPRK's export of missiles to Mid-East nations" and urged the south Korean authorities to join hands in blocking the export. This is a foolish effort to justify the military tieup between Israel and south Korea. The DPRK is following the dangerous military tieup between south Korea and Israel with sharp vigilance.

Senior party and Government officials visit minor power stations in Jagang Province

Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- Senior party and Government officials including Ri Jong Ok, Pak Song Chol, Kim Yong Nam and Han Song Ryong visited medium and small power stations in Jagang Province on Sept. 3 and 4. Officials and working people in Jagang Province newly built and readjusted and reinforced 29 medium and small power stations of various styles in 6 months or more upholding the great plan and intention of Secretary Kim Jong Il. The Province takes the first place in the density of rivers and has favorable conditions with larger quantities of water than other provinces. In the province, over 170 local industry factories are operated and some 21,300 dwelling houses lit up and some 1,700 houses heated with the electricity produced by the minor power stations. The visitors looked round power stations in Janggang county, Kanggye city and Songgan county.

Meeting held to push ahead with construction of Pyongyang

Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- A meeting of more than 100,000 builders and Pyongyangites took place at the Kim Il Sung Square on Friday to push ahead with the construction of Pyongyang, true to the grand plan of Secretary Kim Jong Il for the construction of the capital. Secretary Kim Jong Il set forth the task to more grandiosely and magnificently build up Pyongyang, the capital of the revolution, through an all-party, all-state and all-people campaign to mark the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. A peculiar new street will be formed in over 8 kilometre section from the Rimhung crossroads in front of the Kumsusan Memorial Palace to Sinmi-dong, Hyongjesan district in one year. And the April 25 Hotel, the April 25 Film Studio of the Korean People's Army and other important objects and more than 10,000 flats will be built. Present at the meeting were Vice-President Pak Song Chol, who is politburo member of the central committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, and other senior party and Government officials. Vice-Premier Kim Yun Hyok made a report and others took the floor. The reporter and speakers said that it is the unwavering faith and unshakable will of the respected General Kim Jong Il to exalt Pyongyang as the eternal capital of Kim Il Sung's Korea. They stressed: "However difficult and vast the project may be, we should turn out as one in the honorable construction of the capital and unconditionally carry out the task assigned by the General with the steadfast faith that we will win as led by him."

Fascist murderer

Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today carries a signed commentary denouncing the Kim Young Sam group for getting all the more frantic in the suppression of the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon). The daily says: The fascist clique arrested Ri Jun Gu, chairman of the national reunification committee of Hanchongryon, inflicted penalties upon 19 persons of "those for the first legal action" and are planning to arrest 30 members of the central organisation of Hanchongryon by forming a "special team". This shows that the Kim Young Sam group trampling underfoot democracy and going against reunification and patriotism are resorting to more reckless manoeuvres to obliterate Hanchongryon= it is stirring up the resentment of the entire fellow countrymen. The puppets' bestial suppression of students under Hanchongryon is an unheard-of fascist tyrany to crack down on all the pro-reunification, pro-democracy forces across south Korea. If the Kim Young Sam group think that they can be safe while suppressing the righteous patriotic students, they are mistaken. The Kim Young Sam fascist clique must renounce the sword-brandishing against the patriotic students at once and set free all the arrested students and pro-reunification patriotic figures immediately.

Wrecker of peace and security

Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun in a signed commentary today condemns the United States for frantically stepping up preparations for war against the DPRK. Recently, the U.S. asked Japan to allow the U.S. forces to use nearly all civil ports and airports of Japan from Hokkaido to the southernmost tip in the event of "contingency" on the Korean Peninsula. The daily says: this shows that the United States is trying to use Japan as a base of operation, sortie and supply in another war of aggression against the DPRK. The United States is introducing huge armed forces into south Korea to stage war manoeuvres almost every day and aggravate the situation on the Korean Peninsula. If a war breaks out on the Korean Peninsula, peace and security not only in this region but in the rest of the Asia-Pacific region and the world will be wrecked. All the fact shows that the United States is indeed the very one who wrecks the peace and security not only on the Korean Peninsula but in the Asia-Pacific region and the rest of the world. The reckless war manoeuvres of the U.S. bellicose forces will never bring good results to them. The United States must renounce the ambition for stifling the DPRK and discontinue the reckless acts destroying peace and security.

Socialism, true cause of national independence

Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- The socialist cause is a struggle to defend and realize the independence of the popular masses and, at the same time, a revolutionary movement to guarantee the independent development and prosperity of the country and the nation. The daily notes: The socialist cause is one for national independence because socialism is the idea of national liberation and the ideal of national independence which reflects the aspiration and demand of all the nation for independence, and because the socialist cause is an independent revolutionary movement to realize the independence of the popular masses with the nation-state as a unit and achieve the independent development of a country and nation. It is the socialist idea that respects and defends the sovereignty of the country and nation most. Indian figure praises Korean-style socialism

Among them, the diplomatic successes are particularly wonderful. A series of moves toward improving relations with Pyongyang are a fruition of the external policy of his excellency Kim Jong Il. Recently, he reiterated that Korea must be reunified in the form of confederation. This reflects the worldwide trend and the realities of the Korean Peninsula. The south Korean authorities must demand the withdrawal of the U.S. troops from south Korea for the reunification of the Korean Peninsula and its peace and respond at an early date to the call for dialogue for the reunification of the country. The United States and Japan must discard the anachronistic concept and give helpful hands to the acceleration of the process of the reunification on the Korean Peninsula.

U.S. decides to sell Awacs to s. Korea

Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialists decided to sell four Awacs planes to the south Korean puppet clique, a Seoul-based radio reported. In June, the "civilian"-veiled warmongers of south Korea asked the United States to sell Awacs planes, which was accepted by the U.S. Defense Department. Besides, the south Korean puppet clique, who are trying to find a way out of the catastrophic crisis in unleashing a war against the north, plan to purchase more than 200 stinger missiles from the United States.
