Large-scale surprise river-crossing exercise held in s. Korea

Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- The south Korean puppet clique on September 5 staged a large-scale surprise river-crossing exercise simulating a northward invasion in the area of the south Han River, according to a radio report from Seoul. The provocative rehearsal, which began with intensive firing by fighter bombers and cobra helicopters, reached the climax when a large number of army soldiers, tanks and armoured vehicles crossed the river through a mouth of the swift current and a floating bridge and helicopters dropped armed personnel and arms upon "enemy's position". It ended with securing a bridgehead at the spot for attack. It is one of this year's military drills which most undisguisedly revealed the south Korean puppets' ambition for northward invasion. If they dare to unleash a war against the north, they will meet their end.

Japan's arms buildup aimed at Korean Peninsula

Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- Japan is hell bent on the arms buildup aimed at the Korean Peninsula, according to a report. This is interpreted by the fact that some time ago, the Japanese maritime "self-defence force" decided to deploy the fourth newly-built aegis ship "Tsokai" near the East Sea of Korea in April next year under the preposterous pretext of "providing against the missile threat from north Korea". The Japanese Tokyo Shimbun September 6 said that it is redeployment aimed at the Korean Peninsula. Two aegis ships "Kongo" and "Myoko" have already been deployed in the Sasebo and Maizuru bases near the East Sea of Korea. The "Tsokai" will be the third aegis ship deployed near the East Sea of Korea. This fully shows that the Japanese reactionaries' wild ambition to invade the Korean Peninsula is invariable.

Arms buildup for invasion of north

Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA)-- Rodong Sinmun today comments on the south Korean puppets' decision to import four AWACS planes and some 200 stinger missiles from the United States, motivated by a criminal intention to round off war preparations against the north. The news analyst says: Not content with the conversion of south Korea into the largest arsenal in the far east, the puppet warmaniacs continue to import stinger missiles, AWACS planes and other latest-type lethal weapons. We cannot but take a serious view of this. In June the Kim Young Sam regime purchased some 1,060 stinger missiles and 200 launching pads worth 307 million dollars from the United States allegedly to "increase the defence capabilities to cope with surprise attack from the north." Having alloted nearly 4,000 billion won or 15 percent increase over last year for military spending this year, the rRegime is importing sophisticated lethal weapons and mMilitary hardware even from Rrussia as well as the U.S. and other western countries. This frantic arms import is aimed at unleashing war against the north in conspiracy with outside forces and finding a way out of the crisis. No arms buildup and bellicose action will, however, give the puppets a way out.

"Policy of strength" is not almighty

Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- The United States was reported to submit to Japan a list of civil airports and harbours in Japan that would be used by U.S. forces in case of "emergency" in accordance with the "guidelines for Japan-U.S. defence cooperation" which is under review. Following the July 3 subcritical nuclear test in the underground nuclear testing ground in Nevada, the United States is stepping up preparations for another subcritical nuclear test in the middle of this month. Minju Joson today brands this fact as evidence for the desperate efforts of the United States to establish domination over Korea, Asia and the world. The news analyst says: The submission of the list is part of the U.S. moves for aggression and war to stifle the DPRK by force of arms. All the civil airports and harbours of Japan named in the list face the East Sea of Korea so that it is possible to hurl aggression forces into the Korean Peninsula quickly. This shows the anti-DPRK ambition of the U.S. warmongers remains unchanged and is getting more serious with the passage of time. The plan to continue subcritical nuclear tests is motivated by a sinister intention to contain other countries by means of advanced technology and the nuclear test ban treaty and secure an overwhelming superiority in nuclear arms. The U.S. warmongers must give up the adventurous new war preparations on the Korean Peninsula and the extreme nuclear ambition and act with discretion.

Greetings to Secy. Kim Jong Il from Pres. Jiang Zemin

Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- Secretary Kim Jong Il, Chairman of the National Defence Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army, received a message of greetings on September 6 from President Jiang Zemin, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of china, President of the People's Republic of China and Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the PRC, to mark the 49th anniversary of the foundation of the DPRK. The message said that the founding of the DPRK opened a new page in Korean history and indicated that the Korean people have since entered the road of building a socialist new country in a sovereign and independent way. It continued: The Korean people under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung and the Workers' Party of Korea have not only defended the sovereignty and dignity of the state long through their dauntless and staunch struggle in the complicated international circumstances but also made great success in the socialist revolution and construction. S. Korea-Japan secret talks for military tieup

Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- The south Korean puppet defence Minister had secret talks with the chief of staff of the Japan air "Self-Defence Force" in Seoul on September 4, a radio report from Seoul said. The puppet clique announced that at the talks the sides exchanged a wide range of views on military issues of mutual concern. The south Korean puppets and the Japanese militarists are these days frequenting each other in secrecy. In early August, south Korean warhawks flew to Tokyo for secret talks with officers of the Japan "Self-Defence Forces." This time, the chief of staff of the Japan air "Self-Defence Force" visited Seoul for secret talks with the puppet Defence Minister. The Korean people are sharply watching these ill-boding movements between master and servant.
