Military recommends Secretary Kim Jong Il as WPK General Secretary

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- A resolution on recommending Secretary Kim Jong Il, Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army (KPA), as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) reflecting the unanimous desire of all the Party members and other soldiers of the KPA was adopted with unanimous approval at the KPA conference of the WPK which was held at the April 25 House of Culture on Monday. Delegates from party organisations of units of the KPA three services were present at the conference, which discussed "on recommending comrade Kim Jong Il, the great leader of our Party and people, as General Secretary of our Party." In his report, Director of the KPA General Political Department Jo Myong Rok said: "Electing comrade Kim Jong Il as General Secretary of our Party will be a significant event to meet the urgent demand of the time and history and the unanimous will and earnest desire of all the Party members, people and KPA soldiers. "Comrade Kim Jong Il propounded the theory that the army will guarantee the destiny of the nation and prosperity of the country and has victoriously led the Juche-based army-building started by the great leader President Kim Il Sung so that our revolutionary armed forces are in the prime of development." "He defined the modelling of the whole army on the Juche idea as the supreme programme of army-building and guided the KPA to invariably keep and exalt its revolutionary character as the army of the leader and the Party." "In the 1980s and 1990s, for instance, he organised more than 20 national meetings of the KPA to establish the Party's leadership system and revolutionary discipline throughout the army." "The whole army is filled with the spirit of defending the leader at the risk of life, the spirit of human bombs and the spirit of suicidal attack, and gives full play to revolutionary comradeship, unity between superiors and subordinates and military-civilian unity. This is a proud picture of the KPA today." "Under comrade Kim Jong Il's tireless, energetic leadership the military strength of the KPA and the defence capabilities of the country have grown stronger than ever before." "He has visited more than 2,150 units and frontline posts of the KPA, making a journey as long as 66,400 kilometres on guidance mission so that combat and political training might be intensified and the fighting efficiency of each soldier matching a hundred foes be consolidated." "Today the KPA has grown to be a matchless army with powerful attack and defensive means, frustrated every bellicose move of the enemy and reliably defended the socialist country." The reporter voiced the resolution of the KPA to exalt the enduring feats performed by Secretary Kim Jong Il in preparing the revolutionary armed forces as defender of the Party, the leader, the homeland and the people and maker of happiness. Saying that he, the faithful successor to the revolutionary cause of Juche, is the veteran and experienced socialist political leader, ever-victorious iron-willed brilliant commander and genuine leader of the people, the reporter recommended him as General Secretary of the Party. Speaking at the conference, Kim Yong Chun, Kim Il Chol and many other delegates fully supported the recommendation, noting that the KPA soldiers have long placed absolute confidence in the Supreme Commander. They said the revolutionary armed forces, which reliably defend the WPK, will smash all the despicable moves of the imperialists and the renegades of revolution and always support with arms Korean socialism, the beacon of the cause of independence.

Japanese-Korean women will visit home as scheduled

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- The spokesman for the Central Committee of the DPRK Red Cross Society issued a statement today over the home visit of Japanese women who live in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The spokesman says: The Central Committee of the DPRK Red Cross Society is receiving and registering the applications of Japanese wives for visit to their relatives in Japan, pursuant to the agreement reached at the first session of the DPRK-Japan Red Cross Liaison Council held in Beijing from September 6 to 9. Under the DPRK Government's magnanimous, benevolent policies, the central committee of the society is doing all it can in the humanitarian spirit to successfully organise their home visit. As soon as the information and data about the first home-visiting group are completed, the central committee of the society will notify the Japanese Red Cross Society about them. The home visit of Japanese-Korean women will be made as scheduled at the session of the DPRK-Japan Red Cross Liaison Council.

Chinese film show

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- Li Bin, charge D'affaires Ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in Korea, hosted a film show in Pyongyang on September 22 in connection with the successful 15th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. Invited to see the film were Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea Choe Thae Bok, who is alternate member of the political bureau of the WPK Central Committee, Chairman of the State Commission of Science and Technology Choe Hui Jong and other officials concerned. Chinese Embassy officials were also present. The participants saw a Chinese documentary film "China in 1996". Then, a party was given.

Meeting marks anniversary of Republic of Mali

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- The Korea-Mali Friendship Association sponsored a meeting here on Monday to commemorate the 37th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Mali. Ri Song Ho, Vice-Chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries and Vice-Chairman of the Korea-Mali Friendship Association, officials of the association and working people in the city were present. A message of greetings to the Malian President was adopted following a speech at the meeting.

Warhawk's reckless utterance

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Defence Minister recently visited the "group for reviewing preparations to cope with war" and incited a war atmosphere against the northern half of the country. Commenting on this, Rodong Sinmun today says that the "group" framed up by the puppets is a military organization for reviewing and completing in a comprehensive and concrete way the preparations of war against the north. The paper further says: The puppets have decided to finish 50 odd "wartime tasks" by November, through this organization. The decision reveals their criminal intention to complete all the preparations to unleash a war against the north by then. The puppet military boss also called for "effective application of wartime program" and "involvement of civilians, Government officials and army soldiers". His remarks are nothing but an order of completing in a war atmosphere the preparations for fighting against the north and mobilizing many civilians in the fighting as cannon fodder.

National reunification proposal favored

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- The Liberal Democratic Party of Russia made public a statement on September 18 supporting Secretary Kim Jong Il's famous work "Let Us Carry Out the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung's Instruction for National Reunification". The statement was released in the name of V. Zhirinovsky, Chairman of the Party and leader of the Party group of the State Duma. It expressed full support to the fair and reasonable proposal for the reunification of the north and south of Korea laid down by Secretary Kim Jong Il in his wonderful work. It touched upon the national reunification propsoal put forward by Secretary Kim Jong Il in his work. "We wish comrade Kim Jong Il and all the fraternal Korean people success in their work for achieving national reunification, a great objective," it added.

Secretary Kim Jong Il born with distinguished gifts

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) - Secretary Kim Jong Il was born with distinguished gifts. Early in Juche 35 (1946) he visited Mangyongdae with her mother. Kim Po Hyon, his great grandfather, gave him a writing brush and an inkstone, asking what did he want to write. Kim Po Hyon said Secretary Kim Jong Il's grandfather wrote down "high aim" and his father "Korean Independence" with the brush. After minutes of thinking, Secretary Kim Jong Il wrote down "long live general Kim Il Sung " on a white paper sheet. Kim Po Hyon was very satisfied with his loyalty and filial duty to his father and felt very pleased that he was carrying forward the tradition of the Mangyongdae family. Secretary Kim Jong Il had a power of keen observation, insight and analysis in his childhood. When he was a child, he found out why chickens raise their bills when they drink water and why there is no black flower. He also thought that one added to one makes two but it makes greater one in some cases. And the reverence of the people for President Kim Il Sung is one and the same and it is irresistible. He has had ardent patriotism and free and easy character. In a summer day, he saw that some people catched fish on the River Taedong with an explosive. He told them that even fries would die by explosive so they should use nets or hooks. That evening, he let his father know what he saw. Later, a measure was taken to protect the country's resources. Secretary Kim Jong Il would go to school by foot, wearing simple dress and rubber shoes and taking a cloth wrapper for books. In winter, he heat the stove at the classroom when his turn came. He cultivated his traits more admirably through the building of a new country. Accompanying his parents, he toured Pyongyang, Chongjin, Nampho, Sonbong, Taedong and other towns and farming and fishing villages. Seeing the people's enthusiasm and endeavours for the building of a new country and feeling their deep reverence for the President, inexhaustible strength, ardent patriotism he vowed to devote himself to the country and the people. With such distinguished gifts, he has become the greatest man of Mt. Paektu type and a brilliant commander.

Tongdaewon Garment Factory

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- The Tongdaewon Garment Factory has recently increased the production of exports. Manageress Pak Ok Chun of the factory said over the 30 years the factory carried out its assignments given by the state every year. The quota of the factory for this year was finished five months ahead of the set time and will be carried out at 150 percent at the end of the year, she said. The duty of the factory is to produce clothes for foreign trade. It has signed contractural and equity joint venture contracts with RTK of Japan and Hong Kong's loyal group and Kason. All the facilities of the factory are streamlined. More than 50 percent of the factory employees are engineers, associate engineers and highly skilled workers. The factory turns out in a matter of ten days the same volume of products as was put out in one year right after its commissioning. Its output is 57 times that in 1958. 200,000 sets of ready-made clothes and 300,000 garments of various shapes are turned out every year. The garments turned out by the factory are popular abroad.
