Printed in Rodong Sinmun is an article titled "people extend glory to our general". Minju Joson carries an article on the crime of Kim Young Sam, who intensified the corrupt political-economic fusion in south Korea.
Solution depends on U.S. position
Pyongyang, September 24 (KCNA) -- The solution to the issue depends on what attitude and position the U.S. authorities take toward DPRK-U.S. relations, Rodong Sinmun today says.
A signed article of the paper continues:
The DPRK is ready to put an end to the hostile relations and improve its ties with the U.S. with leniency and good will.
If the DPRK-U.S. ties are to be improved, the United States must dispel the outdated conception of the Cold War era and refrain from approaching the Korean issue from the position of strength.
It is a foolish attempt to subdue and contain the DPRK with strong arm. Military threat and pressure will resolve nothing.
In order to improve the DPRK-U.S. ties, the United States must do things helpful to peace and reunification of the Korean Peninsula.
If the U.S. truly wants peace and security on this peninsula, it must change its policy, conclude a Peace Agreement with the DPRK and establish a new peace mechanism.
The U.S. must renounce its aggressive strategy toward Korea and decide to withdraw its forces from south Korea.
The U.S. must rectify its policy of keeping the division of Korea and do what it should for reunification of Korea.
The U.S. must not encourage or back the south Korean puppets in the anti-reunification moves and war preparations.
If the U.S. truly wants to improve its ties with the DPRK, it must refrain from abusing and flouting our good will and magnanimity.
We will watch the U.S. position and attitude.
Distinguished commander
Pyongyang, September 24 (KCNA) - Secretary Kim Jong Il is a distinguished, brilliant commander with boundless intellectual faculties and spheres of activities.
What is special in his commanding art is the view of putting servicemen in main consideration.
He considers that the key to victory in war is the servicemen, not weapons and that without them, the weapons are only iron pieces. He regards the servicemen as the driving force of the armed forces and wisely guided them to Fully play their role as masters, training them as a strong army.
He, who grew up, inheriting the morale of the brilliant commander's family, is deeply versed in the military.
One day, he visited a shooting range of the People's Army and showed the shooters how to hit the target right. He hit ten bottles 50 metres away with a pistol, five by the right hand and another five by the left hand. He then told the commanding officers and those who were accompanying him that officers may be wounded in right hand in battles so they should train left-hand shooting, too.
When he visited a tank unit, he personally got in a tank and showed tankers how to operate the tank on slope and said tanks should be reshaped so that they may cross over big or small rivers.
In a summer day, he went to an airfield and knew that commanding officers found it very difficult to ensure safe landing of a plane because of unexpected change of weather.
Learning that the plane was due to land from the northern direction, he personally guided the plane to reach the ground from the southern direction. That time, there were lightning flashes and heavy showers in the northern sky but the southern sky was clear. As soon as the plane reached ground safely, there were thunders and flashes in the southern sky, too. The officers were deeply moved by his able commanding in a critical condition.
When he called at a naval base, he joined seamen in voyage and planted the spirit of brave attack and combat in their minds with a complicated charter. And when he visited a munitions plant, he indicated ways of improving and completing military equipment as required by the Juche-based war method and by the situation.
Guided by Secretary Kim Jong Il, Supreme Commander with distinguished intelligence and outstanding commanding art, the Korean People's Army has become an invincible army.
