Secy. Kim Jong Il recommended as WPK General Secretary at provincial Party conferences

Pyongyang, September 27 (KCNA) -- South Hamgyong, North Phyongan and North Hamgyong provincial conferences of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) recommended Secretary Kim Jong Il as WPK General Secretary. The agenda of the conferences was "on recommending comrade Kim Jong Il, the great leader of our Party and people, as General Secretary of our Party." The conferences stressed that Secretary Kim Jong Il with distinguished qualities and charisma has performed valuable exploits by wisely leading all affairs of the revolution and construction, including the building of the Party, the state, the people's armed forces, the economy and culture, for more than 30 years. The conferences adopted resolutions on recommending Secretary Kim Jong Il as General Secretary of the WPK with unanimous approval, reflecting the will and desire of the Party members and other people. The delegates welcomed the adoption of the resolutions with loud applause and warm cheers. Flowers come into bloom in Korea

Pyongyang, September 27 (KCNA) -- Cherry flowers have come into bloom at a time when the whole of Korea is replete with great joy and pleasure at the news that local Party conferences have adopted resolutions on recommending Secretary Kim Jong Il as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea. A cherry tree grows in the front yard of the house of Kim Chun Sik, Secretary of the Primary Party Committee of the forestry station in Pakchon county, North Phyongan Province. The tree has put out 32 flowers, drawing the attention of the villagers. In another development, a pear tree, which grows at a port material supply agency in Sinuiju located on the River Amnok, has put out 55 flowers, giving delight to its employees and passers-by. The witnesses said that it seems nature is congratulating the Korean people on their great pride and honor of being blessed with great leaders generation after generation.

Ceremony for naming school after Kim Song Ju

Pyongyang, September 27 (KCNA) -- Pyongyang Taedongmun Primary School was renamed Kim Song Ju Primary School. In July, the Central People's Committee of the DPRK issued a decree on naming the school after Kim Song Ju, the childhood name of President Kim Il Sung, representing the unanimous desire of the people, youth, students and schoolchildren across the country to hand down the undying exploits he performed for the education of the rising generation. Ryang Man Gil, Chairman of the Pyongyang Municipal Administrative and Economic Committee, made a speech at the naming ceremony on September 26. The speaker recalled that the President visited the school time and again and brightly indicated the orientation and way of educational work. He noted that Secretary Kim Jong Il led the school to carry through the Juche-based education idea of the Workers' Party of Korea. The school has been awarded the order of Kim Il Sung, an official commendation of the President and the national flag of the DPRK first class and the title of the thrice honored red flag school.

Papers report that the Acting Chairman of the Central Committee of the DPRK Red Cross Society sent a letter over radio to the President of south Korea's Red Cross in demand of the repartriation of unconverted long-term prisoners. Bloc liaison council of Japan-Korea friendship organisations inaugurated

Pyongyang, September 27 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today comments on the Japanese reactionaries' smear campaign against the DPRK. The news analyst says: Some time ago, a high-level Party official of Japan called for "stabilizing north Korea, which is in difficulties, and effecting its soft-landing." Pyongyang, September 27 (KCNA) -- A meeting of representatives of different organisations was held in Tokyo on September 19 to inaugurate the Kanto and Koshinetsu Bloc Liaison Council for Japan-Korea Friendship and Solidarity, an umbrella organisation of Japan-Korea friendship organisations. The meeting heard a report on the activities of the friendship organisations in various localities and reached an agreement on the formation of the bloc liaison council. It also adopted the statutes of the council and selected its officials. The bloc liaison council is aimed at increasing cooperation and solidarity among organisations through exchange and study of information and propaganda to promote a movement for Japan-Korea friendship and solidarity. Its cardinal tasks are an early establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, defence of national rights of Koreans in Japan, support for a movement for the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea and a drive for democracy in south Korea, introduction and dissemination of national culture and arts of Korea and promotion of academic and cultural exchanges.

Papers mark world tourist day

Pyongyang, September 27 (KCNA) -- A telegram of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) to Secretary Kim Kong Il was adopted at a meeting of the Chongryon headquarters officials which was held in Tokyo on September 25 in support of the resolutions of various conferences of the Workers' Party of Korea on recommending him as General Secretary of the Party. The telegram said that Secretary Kim Jong Il is the future and destiny of the country and nation and a symbol of all victory and happiness of Chongryon and Korean residents in Japan. All Chongryon officials and Korean residents in Japan ardently wait for the day of glory when the General is elected as head of party and state, and sincerely hope that he will lead the country along the road of victory and glory in the future, too, it noted, and added that they are determined to uphold General Kim Jong Il, who has literary and military accomplishments, talents and virtues, as their great leader and to exalt the glorious Kim Jong Il era to accomplish the patriotic cause of Juche. Pyongyang, September 27 (KCNA) -- Pyongyang-based newspapers today dedicate articles to the world tourist day. Recalling that the DPRK joined the World Tourist Organisation in September 1987, a signed article of Rodong Sinmun says: Korea, called a golden tapestry of three-thousand-ri from olden times, abounds in tourist resources. Mts. Paektu, Kumgang and Myohyang are well known to the world as renowned tourist resorts. Recent years have witnessed the building of Mts. Chilbo and Kuwol and other places into holiday resorts for the people and tourist resorts equipped with sufficient service facilities under the wise leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea. The number of foreign tourists who visit Korea is on the yearly increase. The DPRK Government has cordially welcomed foreign tourists and provided them with all convenience for their tourist activities in the idea of independence, peace and friendship. DPRK Party and state cadres on election of Secy. Kim Jong Il as WPK General Secretary

Pyongyang, September 27 (KCNA) - New "guidelines for U.S.-Japan defense cooperation" was reportedly published on September 23 after a bilateral Security Consultative Committee (SCC) meeting in New York. Turning to the purpose and character of the "guidelines", the U.S. and Japan said that this is not aimed at a particular country, but designed to respond to an armed attack on Japan as well as to situations in areas surrounding Japan that have an important influence on Japan's peace and security. The "guidelines", however, is a criminal war scenario designed to invade the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and intensify manoeuvrings of aggression and war in the Asia-Pacific region. While engaging themselves in anti-DPRK campaign over the "nuclear issue", the U.S. and Japan started the review of the "guidelines" allegedly to respond to the situations in the Korean Peninsula and other areas surrounding Japan. And they revised the original "guidelines" to cope with the "event of contingency" on the Korean Peninsula, taking issue with the DPRK. The geopolitical areas that the new guidelines cover remain undefined. But, officials of Japan and the United States repeatedly said that the "guidelines" were worked out to aim at the Korean Peninsula before any other areas. All the contents of the "guidelines" were reviewed to cope with the "event of contingency" on the Korean Peninsula. The U.S., for example, insisted on choosing civil seaports and airports of Japan opposite to the East Sea of Korea for the use of its troops and the U.S. and Japan had discussions on "economic sanctions," "guerrilla and commando attack," "ballistic missile attack" and other issues against the DPRK. The U.S. and Japan alleged that the guidelines is a new development in bilateral defense cooperation. The "guidelines" had already begun to be carried into practice before the announcement. This shows that the U.S. and Japan are working harder to round off war preparations against the DPRK with the review of the "guidelines" as an occasion. Such dangerous and anachronistic moves of the U.S. and Japan wrecking peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and the rest of the world cause a great concern of many countries.

Pyongyang, September 27 (KCNA) -- Senior Party and state officials of the DPRK, who participated in local Party conferences to recommend Secretary Kim Jong Il as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, said in unison that if the Juche revolutionary cause is to be carried forward and accomplished, the General should be elected as WPK General Secretary. Vice-President Ri Jong Ok, who is also member of the political bureau of the WPK Central Committee, held an interview with KCNA while participating in the South Phyongan Provincial Party Conference. He said: "Of course, it is nothing new to say that we should elect comrade Kim Jong Il as General Secretary of our Party." "He, together with the great leader President Kim Il Sung, has led our Party." "As for a ceremony for electing him as WPK General Secretary, it could have been held three years ago, that is, right after the President passed away." "We have repeatedly told the General that all the Party members and working people of the country ardently want him to hold the supreme positions of the Party and state. " "Each time, however, he resolutely refused our suggestions." "He has been devoted only to the work of holding the President in higher esteem and accomplishing his cause " "Through his practical example, he showed us how revolutionaries should uphold the late leader." Vice-President Ri Jong Ok meets Russian delegation

Pyongyang, September 27 (KCNA) - Secretary Kim Jong Il received a gift from the Agrarian Party of Russia. Its Chairman Mikhail Lapshin, on a visit to Korea, handed the gift to Choe Thae Bok, alternate member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.

DPRK Foreign Ministry spokesman on guidelines for U.S..-Japan defence cooperation

Pyongyang, September 27 (KCNA) -- Ri Jong Ok, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and Vice-President, met and had a friendly talk with the visiting delegation of the Agrarian Party of Russia led by its Chairman Mikhail Lapshin at the Mansudae Assembly Hall today. The head of the delegation said: "I am very happy that I am visiting Korea in a historical period when the Koreans are recommending the respected comrade Kim Jong Il as General Secretary of the WPK."
