Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il's election as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea was welcomed by foreign heads of state. Norodom Sihanouk, King of Cambodia, in a congratulatory statement on Oct. 8, said that the respected marshal Kim Jong Il is the permanent saviour of Korea, the greatest hero and the only most perfect recognized successor to Generalissimo Kim Il Sung who is most outstanding in the world. The Cambodian people and all the progressive peoples of the world are wholeheartedly rejoiced over the supreme leader Kim Jong Il's Korea greeting the most glorious new era of Juche and are expressing the warmest and heartfelt reverence for him, he added. Guinean President Lansana Conte sent a floral basket to the Korean Embassy in Conakry on Oct. 9 and authorized the deputy Secretary General and the Director of Protocol of the Presidential Office to convey his most heartfelt greetings to General Secretary Kim Jong Il. The respected general is a man of probity who made great contributions to the development of bilateral relations of friendship and did me a great favour, he said, stressing that he believes that although Korea is undergoing temporary difficulties, it will shortly overcome them under the leadership of General Secretary Kim Jong Il. Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- Farmers and women met in Pyongyang on October 13 to congratulate Kim Jong Il's election as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea. At a celebration meeting of agricultural working people, speeches were made following a report of chairperson Choe Song Suk of the Union of Agricultural Working People of Korea Central Committee. Banner indicating how to train backbone that will succeed to Juche blood

Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today dedicates an editorial to the letter of General Secretary Kim Jong Il to the teaching staff and pupils of Mangyongdae Revolutionary School. General Secretary Kim Jong Il sent a letter "Mangyongdae Revolutionary School is a centre for training the backbone that will succeed to the Juche blood" to the teaching staff and pupils of the school on the 50th anniversary of its foundation. The editorial says: In the letter, comrade Kim Jong Il reviewed the proud 50 years of the school and indicated the way of effecting a new turn in the training of the backbone that will succeed to the Juche blood. The main idea of the letter is that the Juche blood should be inherited and the Juche revolution started in thick forests of Mt. Paektu be completed, true to the policy of the great leader President Kim Il Sung and the Workers' Party of Korea on education for the bereaved children of revolutionaries. The letter indicates how the school should train the reserve cadres who will become the backbone that will succeed to the revolution and shoulder the future of the country and the hardcore of the revolutionary armed forces. The letter deals with the school's main revolutionary task and other tasks of intensifying politico-ideological education, turning the education into the one for gifted children and strengthening education in basic sciences and military affairs and art and physical education. Gen.- Secy. Kim Jong Il elected Honorary Chairman of SRPP

Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- The socialist revolutionary Party of Peru decided to elect General Secretary Kim Jong Il its honorary chairman as regards his election as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea. A certificate on electing him honorary chairman was handed to the Korean Ambassador to Peru on Oct. 10. The certificate said: "The Socialist Revolutionary Party of Peru decides to award the title of its honorary chairman to comrade Kim Jong Il for his precious exploits for the supreme cause of socialism and his election as WPK General Secretary."

Gen.- Secy. Kim Jong Il awarded order of October Revolution

Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il was awarded the order of October Revolution by the permanent presidium of the Congress of peoples' deputies of the USSR. A decree of the permanent presidium dated Oct. 9 noted that on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the great october socialist revolution they decided to award the order of October revolution to General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and Supreme commander of the Korean people's Army marshal Kim Jong Il for his outstanding contribution to the development of communist theory, the cause of building socialism and the strengthening of solidarity of the international working-class movement and communist movement.

Russian Ambassador gives party

Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- Russian Ambassador to Korea Valery Denisov gave a party on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the Russian Federation on Oct. 13. Celebrations continue in Korea

Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- Taekwondo instructors and players on October 13 gave a model performance at the Taekwondo Hall to congratulate General Secretary Kim Jong Il of the Workers' Party of Korea. The performers showed movements of team pattern, self-defensive technique and other special movements of Taekwondo, which has been consummated to suit the national characters and physical body of the Korean people. Defence building is self-defensive measure: Rodong Sinmun

Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- The maintenance and strengthening of the defence power in the DPRK is a legitimate self-defensive measure to cope with the U.S. occupation of south Korea and its ceaseless threat and blackmail policy to the DPRK, Rodong Sinmun stresses today. The paper comments on the recently published "strategic report on national security" of the U.S., which branded the DPRK as "the most dangerous being" that has an ambition for military challenge to the U.S. The news analyst says: It is outrageous for the U.S. warmongers to describe the defence power of the DPRK as "threat." Now the United States is making brag of being "the only superpower in the world" and planning to invade the DPRK. If we sit idle with folded arms in this situation, it means we ask for death. We cannot but increase our self-reliant defence capabilities as long as the United States, which is technically at war with the DPRK, reinforces its forces in south Korea and its vicinity and steps up military threat and war preparations against the DPRK, without rectifying its aggressive policy toward the DPRK. To counter strength with strength is our revolutionary principle and position. The United States must discard its foolish attempt to stifle the DPRK with strength.

Celebration meetings in provinces and municipality

Meeting to welcome delegation of Denmark-DPRK Friendship Association

Highly important work indicating path of revolutionary Party building

Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today dedicates a signed article to the fifth anniversary of the publication of General Secretary Kim Jong Il's Immortal famous work "On the Fundamentals of Revolutionary Party Building". The work, which was published by General Secretary Kim Jong Il on October 10, Juche 81 (1992), gives a deep-going analysis and review of historical lessons drawn in the building of a socialist ruling Party and a perfect exposition of basic principles that the Workers' Party of Korea has always maintained in the building of a Juche-based revolutionary Party and their validity and important matters of principle arising in the strengthening of international unity and solidarity. The main idea of the work is that only when efforts are made to hew out the revolutionary path of Party building with the Juche-based theory, is it possible to build a working-class Party into the most revolutionary, militant Party to meet the requirements of the era of independence, to steadily enhance the leadership role of the Party and to triumphantly advance the cause of socialism, the article says, and goes on: The vitality of the work is more keenly felt day by day in the building of a revolutionary Party in the present era and in the accomplishment of the cause of socialism. It is of great importance that the work elucidates the idea that a working-class Party should make strenuous efforts to develop the theory of Party building in keeping with the requirements of the time and the developing revolution. The news analyst says: It is natural that the private Party of the traitor Kim Young Sam, who is eking out a precarious living, has been driven to a tight corner. Recently, many people deserted the "New Korea Party." Among them were 14 central permanent members, 126 other central members and 13 chairmen of Party branches. Kim Jong Il's election welcomed in Zimbabwe

Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- A committee was inaugurated in Harare, Zimbabwe to welcome General Secretary Kim Jong Il of the Workers' Party of Korea. Synchronized swimming in Korea

Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- The swimming-pool of the Changgwang Health complex on the bank of Pothong River in Pyongyang is now crowded with synchronized swimming fans. Secretary of the Korean Synchronized Swimming Association An So Dan said that synchronized swimming in Korea is much promising, though its history is short. The performance of synchronized swimming "honor of holding the great general in high esteem" on Oct. 9 was Highly acclaimed. Nearly one hundred young girls participated in the performance. "General on Mt. Paektu", "Party, Motherly bossom" and "Iron-Willed Courage" and others won warm applause for the delicate and refined movements and high skills of the players. General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave teachings on developing synchronized swimming ten years ago. From Juche 77 (1988) synchronized swimmers have been trained by different sports groups. Training facilities have been set up at the swimming gymnasium in the Chongchun Street and other places. Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- Upon hearing the news that the great comrade Kim Jong Il was elected as the General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, people around the world sincerely congratulate him day by day. The General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the First Secretary of the C. Poem dedicated to Gen.- Secy. Kim Jong Il

Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- Han Tok Su, Chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), dedicated a poem to the great leader general Kim Jong Il on his election as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea. The poem deals with the cheers of 700,000 Koreans in Japan and five million overseas Koreans for general Kim Jong Il, the sun of guidance, who has been elected to the top post of the Juche cause. It also reflects their congratulations to him. The poem describes the general as the sun and the symbol of fortune who opened a blue sky after the loss of a great man. Led by the general, Korea is famous worldwide for strong ideology, great politics, powerful military strength, economic prosperity, cultural development and ideal morality and loyalty, the poem says. He is the greatest man, the most brilliant general and the noblest-hearted man, and he is the sun of the 21st century, the poem says. It adds that he lights the path of humankind with the rays of Juche, meets the challenges of the allied forces of imperialism, works miracles of Korean style and strikes people with admiration. In the 21st century, all roads and events will begin from him and lead to him, and every glory and miracle will be linked with his wish, according to the poem. Juche Korea will prosper as an ideal society where the people are regarded as god, and the strongest country that leads formidable enemies by the nose. Korea will be reunified, thanks to the general's high authority, the poem says. The poem stresses that Chongryon will follow him without vacillation, no matter which way the wind may blow.

Ukrainian delegation arrives

Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- A delegation of the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine led by V. O. Maksymov, senior deputy Minister of Transport and Chairman of the State Aviation Administration, arrived here today. The delegation was met at the airport by Kim Yo Ung, General Director of the General Bureau of Civil Aviation, and officials concerned.
