General Secretary Kim Jong Il goes round newly built cattle ranch

Pyongyang, October 22 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il of the Workers' Party of Korea and Chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK and Supreme commander of the Korean People's Army, on October 21 went round the Songammyonggi Cattle Ranch built by soldiers of the People's Army. Secretaries of the WPK Central Committee Kim Kuk Thae, Kim Ki Nam and Kim Yong Sun and KPA General Hyon Chol Hae accompanied him. He congratulated the soldier-builders on their successes and gave warm greetings to them. He went round the exterior and interior of the well-furnished ranch, learned in detail about the construction and breeding and expressed great satisfaction over the fact that the soldier-builders successfully built a modern cattle ranch in a short period. He said the Songam cattle ranch is a solid stockbreeding base capable of turning out large quantities of high-quality beef, and put forward the tasks which will be guidelines in managing the ranch. He said for the ranch to keep the production of beef on a high level it is necessary to take care of the nutrition on a scientific basis and, at the same time, thoroughly conduct the veterinary and anti-epizootic work and thus increase the body-weight of cattle incessantly. He said as the ranch has been built in such a manner as to overcome the seasonable limitations, it is possible to produce beef twice in a year, if meticulous efforts are made for the breeding. He went to say that efforts should be made to take care of cattle on a scientific basis. He said the circumstances around the ranch are kept tidy and clean and that more trees of various kinds, including acacia trees, should be planted in its surrounding mountains so that the ranch may be built like a park. He said cattle ranches should be built in the future in all provinces, cities and counties on the basis of the experience of the Songam Cattle Ranch. He said a large number of ranches of milch cows as well as ranches for the production of beef should be built and researches into them are strengthened so as to drastically increase the production of beef and milk.


Kim Jong Il's election hailed abroad

Pyongyang, October 22 (KCNA) -- Colorful events have taken place in many countries to congratulate General Kim Jong Il on his election as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea. A celebration meeting, gala evening, concert, Korean book, photo and handiwork exhibition, meeting to explain the brief biography of General Kim Jong Il took place in Guyana over October 10-15. The Minister of State for the Ministry of Natural Resources of Uganda said, "as long as there is General Secretary Kim Jong Il, not only the Korean people but also the progressive people of the world will forge ahead under the banner of independence." "The Ugandan government and people set store by the friendly and cooperative relations with the Korean people and voice full support to the just cause of the Korean people," he noted. The Chairman of the Communist Party of Sweden said, "with comrade Kim Jong Il elected WPK General Secretary, Korea will effect a new turn in the cause of independence and socialist construction." Korean film show, meeting, evening of culture and other celebrations were held in Romania, Uganda, Egypt, Tanzania, Yugoslavia and Mongolia over October 8-16.

Pyongyang, October 22 (KCNA) -- Foreign Embassy officials here helped farmers in rice harvesting and threshing. The Indonesian Ambassador and Embassy officials helped the Korea-Indonesia Friendship Yaksu Cooperative Farm on Oct. 21, the Pakistani Ambassador and Embassy officials the Korea-Pakistan Friendship Taesong Cooperative Farm on Oct. 16 and the Polish Embassy officials the Korea-Poland Friendship Jangsuwon Cooperative Farm on Oct. 17.


"Foal eagle" war exercises denounced

Pyongyang, October 22 (KCNA) -- The south Korean puppets have planned to stage war exercises codenamed "Foal Eagle" with the U.S. imperialist aggressor troops. Newspapers here today brand this drill as a dangerous war gamble aimed at attack on the north of Korea. The exercises, which are to be held from Oct. 27 to Nov. 8, will involve most of 37,000 U.S. troops stationed in south Korea and south Korean puppet army 650,000 strong and many war means including an aircraft carrier. A news analyst of Rodong Sinmun says: The exercises, the 36th of its kind, will be staged in the area near the Military Demarcation Line with the involvement of large forces enough for a war. It is clear to anyone that the offensive operation is aimed at invading the northern half of Korea. The United States and the south Korean puppets must not miscalculate our patient efforts and will for peace as an expression of feebleness. They should not run amuck at random, squarely seeing our will, and cancel the planned provocative "Foal Eagle" training exercises at once. Minju Joson warns that if the U.S. and south Korean war hawks persist in the exercises they should be entirely responsible for grave consequences.


Highest glory to General Secretary Kim Jong Il

Pyongyang, October 22 (KCNA) -- Minister Dumiso Dabengwa of Home Affairs of Zimbabwe in an interview with KCNA before his departure for home extended the highest glory to General Kim Jong Il who was elected General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea. The minister said, "his election as WPK General Secretary is a pride and honor of the Korean people and a great encouragement to the world's revolutionary people who are fighting against imperialism." "Seeing the new appearance of Korea," he noted, "we realised the truth that no force on earth can break the strength of the people with firm will, that is, the Korean people who are rallied close around the Party in one mind." He further said, "the Korean people are undergoing difficulties owing to the maneuverings of the imperialists and natural disasters. But it is temporary. It is because the Korean people are led by the great leader comrade Kim Jong Il and take as their unshakable faith the Juche idea that man is the master of everything and decides everything. The revolutionary people of the world always stand by the Korean people. We firmly believe that the Korean people who are rallied close around the great comrade Kim Jong Il and advancing without the slightest wavering under the uplifted banner of socialism will reunify the country without fail."


May Day Stadium

Pyongyang, October 22 (KCNA) -- The May Day Stadium boasts of peculiar architectural beauty. It is located on Rungna Islet in the River Taedong. Football, field and track and other events can be held simultaneously at the stadium. It is equipped with groups of roof floodlights and ceiling lamps and up- to-date sports facilities. It can accommodate more than 150,000 spectators. It is surrounded with sixteen 100-metre long rainbow pent roofs of a large parachute shape. The height from the stadium ground to the pent roof is more than 60 metres. Its roof is composed of 192 trusses. Its building is a seven-storeyed one with more than 10 elevators, over 80 doors and four passages for cars. It has international telephone and telex rooms, TV control rooms and other rooms furnished with electronic communication facilities, including 2,000 seats for journalists to cover sports games in stadiums in Pyongyang. There are a large comprehensive training ground and three football training grounds outside the stadium. It has a large parking lot for more than 2,500 cars. Political functions are also held at the stadium. On October 12, a meeting of youth and students in Pyongyang was held at the stadium to celebrate the election of General Kim Jong Il as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea. Among the political and sports events held there were the 13th World Festival of Youth and Students in Juche 78 (1989) and the Pyongyang International Sports and Cultural Festival.


Militant banner to defend Party's unity and cohesion generation after generation

Pyongyang, October 22 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today dedicates an article to the 21st anniversary of the publication of "Let Us Firmly Defend Political and Ideological Unity and Purity of the Party Generation After Generation", a work of General Secretary Kim Jong Il. The work was published on October 22, Juche 65 (1976). It comprehensively integrates the ideas and theories on the unity and cohesion of a revolutionary Party on the basis of the historical experience and lessons of the international communist movement. It also gives a clear exposition of the principled questions in the struggle to firmly defend and further strengthen generation after generation the unity and cohesion of the Workers' Party of Korea achieved by President Kim Il Sung. The author of the article says: The ideas and theories contained in the work have fully proved their validity in the struggle to defend the unity and cohesion of the WPK generation after generation and are displaying their great vitality as the days go by. In the course of taking tight hold on and applying the ideas and theories set forth in the work, the unity and cohesion of the WPK have been firmly defended generation after generation and strengthened and developed constantly. The might of the unity and cohesion of the WPK, which are being carried forward generation after generation, comes from the steadfastness of its centre. The question of the centre of the WPK unity has already been settled as General Kim Jong Il was held in high esteem as the great successor to the revolutionary cause of Juche. The might of the unity and cohesion of the WPK lies in the fact that the whole Party is firmly united on the basis of the idea of General Secretary Kim Jong Il. The WPK has imbued the whole Party with one idea, the idea of the leader and achieved the most solid singlehearted unity. The might of the unity and cohesion of the WPK also lies in the fact that all the ranks are firmly united as one on the basis of the revolutionary faith and obligation to the leader. Inexhaustible is the might of the unity and cohesion of the WPK with which all the Party members are firmly united around General Kim Jong Il, General Secretary of the WPK, regarding loyalty to him as their revolutionary faith and obligation.


Land and environmental protection in Korea

Pyongyang, October 22 (KCNA) -- Korea is attaching great importance to the land and environmental protection work. According to Pak Tong Hwan, Department Director of the Ministry of Land and Environmental Protection, a period of Land and environmental protection is set in spring and autumn every year in Korea, when tree planting, river improvement projects and road repairs are animated. In this autumn more than 179.7 million trees will be planted across the country and 20-60 hectares of tree nurseries will be created in each city and county. Many broad-leaved trees will be planted during autumn. Particularly, big efforts are being directed to growing saplings because hundreds of hectares of nurseries were damaged by drought this year. Hundreds of kilometres of embankments will be built, thousands of hectares of land be re-zoned and thousands of kilometres of roads be repaired or built, which were destroyed by tidal waves. All the working people across the country will take part in this work. According to data available at the ministry of land and environmental protection, last year more than 682,578,000 trees including pine-nut, poplar, larch and acacia trees were planted and a total length of over 12,900 kilometres of river improvement and embankment projects carried out. Korea observes October 23 as day of land and environmental protection.
