Pakistani Ambassador gives party
Pyongyang, November 7 (KCNA) -- The Pakistani Ambassador to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea gave a party Thursday on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the DPRK and Pakistan.
Invited to the party were Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Chon Jae Hong and other officials concerned.
Speeches were made at the party.
Mafia-style rescue operation
Pyongyang, November 7 (KCNA) -- A south Korean "court" released Kim Hyon Chol, son of Kim Young Sam and one of the chief culprits of the Hanbo loan scandal, on November 3, causing a big public stir.
As is known, the Hanbo scandal, which was brought to light early this year, caused a great sensation in south Korea and worldwide.
In face of strong public protest and criticism, Kim Young Sam made an apology in a "statement to the people." Public opinion, however, demanded that Kim Hyon Chol be brought to justice at once and that Kim Young Sam, who was believed to be the mastermind of the scandal, open the truth to the public and step down.
In May, historically a month of strong anti-"government" feelings in south Korea, Kim Young Sam agreed that his son was brought to trial.
The Seoul district court held a perfunctory trial and sentenced Kim Hyon Chol to three years' imprisonment. A month or so after the verdict, the south Korean "court" made a "magnanimous" decision to release Kim Hyon Chol. As a result, one of the chief culprits of the corruption scandal caused by monetary "privilege" was released in a few months under judicial "privilege."
This was a Mafia-style rescue operation that could be seen only in such a corrupt society as south Korea.
Lurking behind this release are Kim Young Sam, who accumulated hundreds of millions of dollars in slush funds through Mafia-style violence and irregularities, and the "political depression" of south Korea, a product of his corrupt rule.
Kim Young Sam has driven south Korean society into a total crisis during his office of five years. This time, he abused his power to rescue the little thief, taking advantage of the serious political confusion with the "Presidential election" at hand.
It is not without reason that an opposition party leader in south Korea branded Kim Young Sam as a "dirty traitor who lives on government power" and a businessman described the south Korean judicial system as a "stick like Mafia's arms."
South Korea is where public sentiment is flouted, public will is refuted and the political structure is openly abused in the operation of rescuing thieves the way Mafia does.
Amnesty Int'l on prisoners of conscience in s. Korea
Pyongyang, November 7 (KCNA) -- The branch of the Amnesty International in south Korea in a press conference on Nov. 4 said that there are many prisoners of conscience in south Korea, according to a radio report from Seoul.
Though south Korean authorities brand many prisoners as "offenders of law," they are prisoners of conscience arrested for their political expressions and views in view of the standards of the international convention on human rights, the Amnesty International said.
This denies the south Korean "civilian" fascists' allegation that there is no prisoner of conscience in south Korea.
Under the "civilian government" the number of prisoners of conscience in 1996 increased to some 1,260, or double the 1995 figure, according to the report on human rights issued by the south Korean bar association in the middle of September.
The human rights situation and the number of prisoners of conscience exposed by the Amnesty International and the south Korean bar association are only a tip of the iceberg.
Rodong Sinmun on U.S.-Japan military game
Pyongyang, November 7 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today comes out with a signed commentary branding the U.S.-Japan joint military exercises as an open war game to make a preemptive attack on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
Participating in the war game in the East Sea of Korea are the U.S. 7th Fleet with the aircraft carrier independence as a main force and 120 warships and 180 warplanes of the maritime "Self-Defence Force" of Japan and more than 34,000 military personnel.
The news analyst of the paper says:
The military hawks of the United States and Japan are alleging that the war game is aimed at defending Japan from "potential enemy's" military actions against Japan.
However, their allegation cannot be justified under any circumstances.
We cannot overlook the fact that the first U.S.-Japan joint military manoeuvres after the publication of the new "U.S.-Japan defence cooperation guidelines" to cope with the "contingency around Japan" are being held in waters near the Korean Peninsula for the purpose of attacking the DPRK.
Having completed preparations for joint military operations together with Japan, the United States is seeking to make a preemptive attack on the DPRK any moment. So, we cannot but make full self-defensive preparations to cope with possible military attack.
It is our principled stand to answer war with war, dialogue with dialogue.
We warn that those who want to hurt us will not get off unhurt.
The United States would be well advised to stop the reckless military acts against the DPRK and approach us from a sound and trustworthy dialogue-oriented stand.

Sponsor of film festival arrested in s. Korea
Pyongyang, November 7 (KCNA) -- The "civilian" fascist regime of south Korea arrested So Jun Sik, chairman of the "Human Rights Movement Committee," on Nov. 5 on charges of violation of the notorious "National Security Law" for the mere reason that he sponsored a human rights film festival, according to news reports from Seoul.
The film festival took place for a week at Hongik University in Seoul between late September and early October. A documentary film on the April 3, 1948 resistance of the Jeju islanders was screened at the festival.
The sponsors of the festival screened the film amid interest of many people at the university instead of the Christian Federation Hall in Seoul due to blockade of the fascist regime.
The "Human Rights Movement Committee" planned to hold the festival in ten local cities till December.
So Jun Sik had served prison terms for 17 years after he was arrested with his elder brother so sung while studying at Seoul National University as a Japan-born Korean student, on charges of involvement in the false "campus spy-ring case" in 1971 during the Park Chung Hee fascist "government." He was released in 1988.
After release, he made positive activities at human rights organisations. He was executive chairman of the recent film festival.
In another development, the bar association for democratic society issued a protest statement on that same day, strongly urging the fascist regime to stop the repression of the human rights film festival and release So Jun Sik at once.
Medical society on false propaganda in s. Korea
Pyongyang, November 7 (KCNA) -- The spokesman of the DPRK Medical Society issued a statement today, accusing the Kim Young Sam regime of branding the DPRK as a source of disease in south Korea.
The spokesman said:
Some time ago, the puppet health authorities announced that malaria has become an endemic disease with the rapid increase of malaria cases in recent years, for instance, some 13,000 cases this year, in the area south of the Military Demarcation Line including Kyonggi and Kangwon provinces. And they ascribed the cause to the movement of infected mosquitos from the north to the south.
This is a sheer lie and sophism that goes against reality and common sense and does not make any sense.
In the north of Korea where the party's policy of preventive medicine is fully applied, the sources of infectious diseases such as malaria, a leftover of the old society, have totally disappeared.
In Korea, July and august are the best months for mosquitos. In this season, the wind blows hard northward from the south and lots of insects move to the north, doing harm to people.
The rapid increase of malaria and other cases in south Korea is attributable to the antisocial health policy of south Korean rulers and the corrupt and ailing social system.
The south Korean rulers blame the north for the malaria cases in south Korea, with a view to diverting elsewhere public attention and inciting hostile feelings against the DPRK as their government crisis is getting more serious because of internal feud with the "Presidential election" at hand.
The Kim Young Sam regime, the root cause of the spread of infectious diseases in south Korea, had better mind its own business.
Russian Party worries over tension of Korea
Moscow, November 5 (KCNA) -- The Secretariat of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks issued a statement on the paper Bolshevik no. 16 on the aggravation of the military tension on the Korean Peninsula caused by the U.S. and the south Korean puppets.
The statement noted with great concern that the south Korean warhawks are escalating military tension on the Peninsula with the backing of the U.S. and that this is an act against the Korean people and all humankind.
It called upon all the committees of the All-Union Party of Bolsheviks to hold protests including conveying protest letters in front of the embassies, consulates and trade missions of the U.S. and south Korea.

The king in his letter expressed wholehearted thanks to Marshal Kim Jong Il, supreme leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, for extending warm congratulations and wishes, wonderful floral basket and gift to him on his 75th birthday.

Foreign Ministry urges U.S. and Japan to clarify their stand toward war and peace
Pyongyang, November 7 (KCNA) -- If the United States and Japan persist in the line of pressure and confrontation, we also will unhesitatingly take a corresponding countermeasure against it.
So said the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the DPRK in a statement published today as regards the on-going U.S.-Japan joint military exercises.
Participating in the war game, the first of its kind after the publication of the revised "U.S.-Japan defence cooperation guidelines", are vast armed forces and military equipment including the U.S. 7th Fleet with the aircraft carrier independence as a main force and warships of the self-defence forces of Japan.
The spokesman further said:
The war exercises reveal that they are being staged according to the plan for tripartite joint military drills against the DPRK which was scrupulously worked out on the initiative of the united states.
The United States, pretending to be interested in the "four-way talks" for lasting peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, is translating its war plan for invading the DPRK into practice by instigating Japan and south Korea behind the signboard of dialogue. Accordingly, we cannot remain passive onlookers to the undisguised military provocation moves against the dialogue partner.
These days, the DPRK-Japan relations are gradually showing signs of improvement, and some positive moves are being seen in the relations between the DPRK and the United States thanks to the smooth implementation of the DPRK-U.S. agreed framework.
At this very juncture, the United States and Japan are making provocative military movements against the DPRK.
This is why our new mistrust in them is increasing and all the soldiers and people are following every movement of the aggressors with the sharpest vigilance.
Dialogue is incompatible with confrontation.
If the United States and its followers expect any "pressure" to bear fruits, still pinning some hopes on the way of solving matters with strength, they will get nothing but harm.
The United States and Japan must clarify their stand toward war and peace.
