Anniversary of Pomminryon north headquarters
Pyongyang, January 25 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Sunday observes the 7th anniversary of the formation of the north headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification (Pomminryon).
The north headquarters is a regional organisation of Pomminryon, the patriotic organisation of the movement for reunification representing the common will of the compatriots in the north, south and abroad and the umbrella body of the nationwide movement for reunification.
Over the past seven years it has held pan-national rallies and persistently conducted the movement for national reconciliation, unity and reunification in solidarity with other Pomminryon regional organisations, taking the three principles of independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity, which are the reunification program common to the nation, and the Ten-Point Programme of Great Unity of the Whole Nation as the fundamental guidelines of its activities, the article of the paper says, and goes on:
The three charters for national reunification which was clarified by President Kim Il Sung and formulated by General Kim Jong Il are an immortal great program for reunification= they are highly important guidelines for the Pomminryon organisations.
If the movement for national reunification is to be conducted powerfully, it is important to further expand and strengthen the Pomminryon organisations, achieve unity and cohesion of the ranks of the movement and fully ensure the solidarity and joint struggle of the movement organisations in the north, south and abroad.
The paper expresses the belief that the north headquarters of Pomminryon will more vigorously conduct the movement for reunification together with other Pomminryon organisations under the uplifted banner of national independence and great unity.
"Security" cannot be reason for U.S. military presence in S. Korea
Pyongyang, January 25 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today says the United States must refrain from using "security" as a reason for its military presence in South Korea.
On Jan. 19 the U.S. Secretary of Defense, William Cohen, said that the United States will keep military alliance with South Korea even after the threat to security disappears on the Korean Peninsula. His utterances reflect the U.S. stand and strategy to keep the U.S. troops on the Korean Peninsula and exercise military upperhand there even after affirmative changes take place and stability is achieved in this region, the paper notes, and goes on:
The United States is trying to keep its 100,000-strong troops in Asia. It intends to contain the DPRK with the mobilization of its forces in and around South Korea and take hold on the whole of the Korean Peninsula, a military strategic spot. And it is going to realize its wild ambition to dominate Asia with the peninsula as a foothold.
"Security" and "stability" can never be a reason for the U.S. military presence in South Korea.
If stability and peace is to be achieved on the Korean Peninsula and secuirty to be realized in Asia, it is imperative to put an end to the presence of the U.S. Forces in South Korea, the main cause of tension and danger of war.
It is desirable to focus the multinational debate about security on this.
Korea's reunification supported abroad
Pyongyang, January 25 (KCNA) -- The Guyanese committee for support to Korea's reunification issued a statement on Jan. 14 supporting the Korean people's cause of national reunification.
The three charters for national reunification are the most reasonable and realistic proposals for the reunification of Korea, the statement said. If Korea is to be reunified at an early date, a fundamental change should take place in South Korea.
It said: "We will continue to extend full support to and solidarity with the Korean people in their struggle for the independent and peaceful reunification of the country."
Terence A. Marryshow, political leader of the Maurice Bishop Patriotic Movement of Grenada, in a statement on Jan.
15 supported the stand of the DPRK toward the reunification of the country which was set forth in the joint editorial.
He demanded that the South Korean authorities change the anti-north policy of confrontation into a pro-north policy of reconciliation, pull down the concrete wall and abolish the fascist laws and repressive tools against democracy and reunification.
