Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- A decade has passed since the immortal flower kimjongilia saw the light.
The flower has propagated throughout korea and in some 60 countries of the world.
Horticulturists of korea solved the scientific and technical matter of its mass propagation by tissue culture to meet public demand for the flower.
There are 40 odd greenhouses of the flower in Korea including the Kimjongilia greenhouse covering about 1,000 square metres in the central botanical garden.
Over 20,000 plants of Kimjongilia spread in Viet Nam, Syria, Singapore, Cuba, Austria, Sweden, the United States and many other countries in 10 years.
The Kimjongilia greenhouses have opened in China, Mongolia, Madagascar and Ethiopia for its culture and propagation.
The Nordic Association of Kimjongilia (formed in Mar. 1995), the Mongolian Association of Kimjongilia (formed in Nov. 1997) and foreign horticulturists and gardeners have exchanges with the Korean Federation of Kimjongilia for its Propagation and Culture.
An organizing committee for the Kimjongilia-lovers' society was inaugurated in Tokyo, Japan in October last year.
Kimjongilia was awarded a special prize and a gold medal at the 12th international flower exhibition (May 1991) and a prize for the best flower at the Jilin flower show of China (Aug. 1997).
The flower gained popularity at the Nordic Flower Exhibition (non-competition) in 1995.
Now in Pyongyang the Second Kimjongilia Exhibition is being arranged amid the great concern of horticulturists and flower-lovers at home and abroad.

Rodong Sinmun on brutalities of GI's in S. Korea
Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today comments on brutalities of U.S. soldiers in South Korea that have taken place in succession in the New Year, too.
Some time ago, a soldier of the 473rd field backup company of the U.S. army killed a bar woman in Uijongbu, Kyonggi Province, before setting the bar on fire to conceal his crime. Earlier, four drunken soldiers of the U.S. second division committed a group assault on a passenger in a Seoul-bound train.
The news analyst of the paper says:
The continuous crimes and outrages of U.S. soldiers in South Korea are neither accidents nor individual events.
They are an inevitable outcome of the U.S. military occupation and colonial rule over South Korea. They are motivated by the disposition of Yankees imbued with misanthropy, racial contempt and chauvinism and given to murder and violence.
The point is that these atrocities are encouraged by the sycophantic traitors who remain indifferent to national sovereignty and dignity and live on services for aggressor forces.
The pro-American traitor Kim Young Sam provides the occupationists with extraterritorial status and defends criminals of the u.s. Army so that they can engage in murder, plunder and violence without hesitation.
Facts show that unless the traitors such as Kim Young Sam are removed, the outrages of aggressors cannot be eliminated nor can the South Korean people avoid bloodshed and death.
Juche character and national character, life and soul of Korean revolution
Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- Korea has consistently taken it as the fundamental principle of the revolution and construction to preserve the Juche character and national character.
In recent years alone, General Secretary Kim Jong Il repeatedly clarified this principle in his famous works including "Socialism is a Science" (November 1994), "On Preserving the Juche Character and National Character of the Revolution and Construction" (June 1997) and "Let Us Carry Out the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung's Instructions for National Reunification" (August 1997).
It is the invariable stand of the Workers' Party of Korea guided by the Juche idea to carry out the revolution and construction with the united strength of the nation on the principle of Juche.
The DPRK is shining as a powerful bulwark of socialism, not affected by the continued collapse of former east European socialist countries. It is because the DPRK has adhered to the principle of independence, self-support and self-reliance in defence.
The geographical location of Korea and the unprecedentedly arduous and complicated revolution made it more vital than other countries to preserve the Juche character and the national character.
From the beginning of his revolutionary activities, President Kim Il Sung, rejecting flunkeyism and dogmatism, worked out lines and policies reflecting the demands of the Korean people and the actual conditions of the Korean revolution and thoroughly carried them out. He led the Korean revolution to victory with Juche-based lines and policies including the line of the anti-Japanese armed struggle, the line of party building, the line of setting up a people's government, the line of socialist construction and the line of building an independent national economy.
Particularly, the present realities clearly prove the validity of the line of building an independent national economy with priority to the heavy industry.
During the anti-Japanese armed struggle, he set forth the line of forming a united front of the nation and firmly rallied as one those who opposed the Japanese imperialists and loved the country.
After the country was liberated in Juche 34 (1945), he put forward the slogan "those with strength, offer their strength. Those with knowledge, give their knowlege and those with money, donate their money " which roused all the people to the building of the country.
By advancing this as the slogan for national unity, he led all the members of the nation to make tangible contributions to the cause of reunification.
"10-Point Programme of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation for the Reunification of the Country" formulated by him is reunification guidelines replete with patriotism and the spirit of national independence.
The Korean people are now firmly maintaining the Juche character and the national character with the firm conviction that if they defend socialism, they will win, but if they abandon it, they will go to ruin.
Rodong Sinmun on danger of U.S.-Japan alliance
Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today brands the recent military talks between U.S. Secretary of Defense William Cohen and Japanese officials as a new dangerous move to activate the implementation of the aggressive "guidelines for U.S.-Japan Defence Cooperation."
The paper in a by-lined article says:
The new "guidelines" is a joint U.S.-Japan scenario for aggression in case of "crisis" around Japan. The two nations plan to carry into practice the scenario on the pretext of "joint response" to "crisis" around Japan.
At the talks, the two sides agreed to begin specifying joint operations and "cooperation" between the U.S. Forces and the Japan "Self-Defence Forces" in case of "emergency" around Japan and decided to set up a "comprehensive body" that is responsible for the formulation of "joint operation plan" and "mutual cooperation plan" and for "emergency legislation." This proves that the scenario is being put into the practical stage.
It must not go unnoticed that the scenario is nearing the danger line, with the Korean Peninsula as the target.
Both the United States and Japan intend to invade Korea as the first goal in their ambition for domination over Asia.
All this shows that their moves for aggression on Korea and the rest of Asia under the new "guidelines" are getting pronounced, assuming practical danger.
Koreans' cause of reunification supported abroad
Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- Nepalese Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa, who is also Chairman of the Central Committee of the National Democratic Party of Nepal, on January 31 met with a delegation of the Workers' Party of Korea headed by Choe Jin Su, Vice-Director of a Department of the Party Central Committee.
The Nepalese Prime Minister said that the struggle waged by the Korean people under the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung to achieve the independence and sovereignty of the country gave a great encouragement to the Nepalese people.
The President's exploits will shine forever, he noted.
He hoped that the Korean people would surmount all difficulties from the natural disasters and make great achievements under the wise guidance of General Kim Jong Il, who has successfully carried forward the revolutionary cause of President Kim Il Sung.
He stressed that the Nepalese people would support the policy of the Workers' Party of Korea to reunify the country in an independent and peaceful way without outsiders' interference and strive to develop the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two parties and governments.
The General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Jordan Communist Party, when he met with the DPRK Ambassador to Jordan who paid a farewell call on him, said that his party would in the future, too, continue to extend support and solidarity to the just struggle of the Workers' Party of Korea and make every possible effort for the reunification of Korea, the cherished desire of the Korean nation.
Jagang Province produces electric power by itself
Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- The whole country is following the model of Jagang Province in producing electric power by itself.
When giving on-site guidance to the Province some time ago, General Kim Jong Il highly estimated it for building minor power stations by its own efforts to solve the problem of electric power and said that all other provinces, cities and counties should follow its example.
In recent years, the province, which boasts of high mountains and many rivers, has built many small- and medium-sized power stations of various types suitable to its regional characteristics with its own technique and manpower. It has built waterway power stations in the areas with heads of water, floating power stations in streams and methane-gas power stations in riverless areas.
Some time ago, it completed the construction of more than 30 minor power stations. It is now stepping up the construction of dozens of more small- and medium-sized power stations.
An increasing number of towns, counties, industrial establishments and cooperative farms are self-sufficient in the supply of electric power from the minor power stations they built by themselves.
Minor power stations in Janggang and Songgan counties, Kanggye city and others of the province are supplying sufficient electric power needed for production and construction as well as for heating of dwelling houses and for the convenience of the people's life.
Its experience gained in the course of the "arduous march" clearly proves the validity and vitality of the teachings of President Kim Il Sung on building many minor power stations along with large power stations and the slogan of the Workers' Party of Korea "only self-reliance is our choice "
