Families of unconverted long-term prisoners write to international human rights org.

Pyongyang, February 7 (KCNA) -- Family members of Kim In So, Ham Se Hwan and Kim Yong Thae, unconverted long-term prisoners in South Korea, sent letters to the U.N. Commission on human rights and other international organisations requesting them to render active help for their early repatriation. The family members who live in North Korea said in the letters: Kim In So, Ham Se Hwan and Kim Yong Thae were taken prisoner by the enemy while fighting during the past Fatherland Liberation War and kept in prison in South Korea for scores of years. Even now when they are invalid, they are kept in South Korea without being repatriated to North Korea. Today, they are in delicate conditions. This notwithstanding, the South Korean authorities have persecuted and excruciated these unconverted long-term prisoners, putting them on trial for the mere reason that they called for their repatriation and the abrogation of the "National Security Law," allegedly violating the "Law on Supervision for Public Peace." The letters earnestly requested the international human rights organisations to take humanitarian measures to force the South Korean authorities to stop human rights violations against the unconverted long-term prisoners and repatriate them to their hometowns at an early date.

U.S. should clearly know of KPA

Pyongyang, February 7 (KCNA) -- It is the militant disposition of the Korean People's Army (KPA) to answer the enemy's appeasement strategy with revolutionary principles, and invasion with revolutionary war, declares Rodong Sinmun today. In a commentary the daily says: From the beginning of the year the United States has escalated military threat to the DPRK, touching off KPA's vigilance and enmity. What we cannot overlook is that the United States has continued the military threat behind the curtain of the talks. It indicates that the united states is calling for dialogue overtly, but seeking to stifle the DPRK by force of arms covertly. Under such situation it is hard to expect something from DPRK-U.S. negotiations. The KPA, well aware of the purpose of the U.S. appeasement policy, has exercised utmost vigilance and kept itself in full combat readiness to cope with it. Even slightest vacillation is unimaginable for the KPA in defending the country. In dealing with the enemy's invasion, it is merciless and determined. The escort craft, "Pueblo" ship, "EC-121" reconnaissance plane and helicopter incidents are some of the good examples offering glimpse of the KPA's disposition. The KPA means what it says. Talks are necessary sometimes. But the KPA keeps tabs on what position the U.S. takes at the talks. Double-dealing game never works on the DPRK. The United States must clearly know of the KPA's military disposition and stop presenting military threat to the DPRK.

Day of garment industry instituted in Korea

Pyongyang, February 7 (KCNA) -- September 20 is set as day of the garment industry in korea, the DPRK Central People's Committee announced in a decree on February 4. According to the decree, on September 20, Juche 35 (1946) after the liberation of the country President Kim Il Sung gave precious instructions that garment factories should be built to urgently meet the people's demand for clothing even though the national economy was in very difficult conditions. True to his intention, mother Kim Jong Suk, a revolutionary fighter, personally chose a garment factory building in ChangJon-ri, central district, Pyongyang and indicated the orientation and way for its operation. Thanks to their energetic guidance the foundations for the garment industry were laid in Korea. Today the industry has a large number of well-equipped factories which mass-produce various kinds of quality clothes, thus greatly contributing to the improvement of the people's living standard.

G.S. Kim Jong Il's birthday celebrated abroad

Pyongyang, February 7 (KCNA) -- Mass media of different countries have congratulated General Secretary Kim Jong Il on his 56th birthday. The Sweden-Korea Friendship Association published the magazine "Information of Korea" no. 1 as a special issue. The magazine said that the Workers' Party of Korea can carry forward the cause of President Kim Il Sung successfully because General Kim Jong Il was elected as its General Secretary. General Kim Jong Il has victoriously led the struggle for defending socialism, not yielding to the blockade by the U.S. and its allied forces and repeated natural disasters, it added. The Ugandan paper New Times emphasized that the Korean People's Army, guided by Supreme Commander General Kim Jong Il, has become an invincible army fully prepared politically and ideologically and in military technology. A Guinean paper, introducing the Korean People's achievements in the socialist construction, said that the revolutionary history of Korea will be brilliant as the history of President Kim Il Sung because it has acclaimed General Kim Jong Il as supreme leader of the party, state and army. The Pakistan-Korea Friendship Association issued a bulletin saying that it is great happiness not only for the Korean people but also for all the world people who love justice and progress to have the leader Kim Jong Il, representative of independent politics. The Guyanese state radio said that General Kim Jong Il is a great thinker and theoretician who firmly defends and enriches ideas and theories of President Kim Il Sung. The Guyanese TV stressed that thanks to the wise guidance of General Kim Jong Il, the Workers' Party of Korea and the Korean people are carrying forward the revolution, while keeping its characteristics pure.

CPRF on Kim Young Sam's crimes in five years of office

Pyongyang, February 7 (KCNA) -- As the tenure of the Kim Young Sam is expiring, the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland issued a statement exposing his crimes in five years of office. The statement dated February 5 said: The most serious crime which was committed by Kim Young Sam during his term of office was that he sold off the dignity and interests of the nation through unheard-of despicable flunkeyism, treachery and dependence upon outsiders. No sooner had he seized the "Presidential office" than he visited his masters in Washington and Tokyo, not the fellow countrymen within the hailing distance. This resulted in further deepening the political, economic and cultural dependence of South Korea. By concluding a large number of subordinate pacts and agreements with outsiders, he allowed them to fully dominate South Korea and begged for the permanent presence of the U.S. troops in South Korea, offering an estimated 3 billion dollars as costs for their upkeeping. It is none other than Kim Young Sam who made South Korea saddled with foreign debts amounting to 200 billion dollars and placed South Korea under "trusteeship" by foreign monopoly capital. He took the lead in the anti-DPRK moves launched by the allied imperialists over the "suspected development of nuclear weapons" by the DPRK and put brakes on internal and external humanitarian assistance to the fellow countrymen in the north hit by serious natural disasters with outcries over "crisis" and "exaggeration." Another unpardonable crime which was committed by him during his office was that he froze the inter-Korean relations against the ardent desire of the nation for the peaceful reunification, thus aggravating confrontation between them and turning south korea into an hotbed of a new war. When he came into office, he promised that he would give priority to the nation. Against his promise, however, he challenged the DPRK with the declaration of confrontation that he "cannot shake hands with the north" and "the northerners must not be viewed merely as fellow countrymen." In the latter half of his tenure, he went the length of announcing a policy of closing all doors with the north, thus cutting all contacts with the north. When he was in office, South Korea's military expenditure increased 50 percent and the puppet army was further reinforced. During his term, South Korea staged many war exercises against the north separately or jointly with the U.S. aggression forces. Taking only the large-scale manoeuvres as an example, their number increased from 16 in 1993 to 88 in 1996 and 120 in 1997. While he was in office, South Korea was ruined due to his unheard-of misrule and tyranny. Wielding the fascist "National Security Law", he frantically suppressed the patriotic movement for reunification and persecuted patriotic democrats on charges of "sympathising with communism" and "spying." He launched an ill-gotten campaign to wipe out the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) which had existed at the time of former military regimes. The brutal campaign was as terrible as the Kwangju massacre. He is the kingpin of irregularities and corruption who converted South Korea into an ill-famed "kingdom of corruption." During his office, South Korea's foreign debts increased five times and its trade deficit more than 10 times, and large business groups as well as minor enterprises collapsed in succession. The South Korean economy was driven into the worst-ever financial turmoil and South Korea is now on the verge of the "state bankruptcy." Fives years of Kim Young Sam's office were years of the most despicable treachery, disgrace, collapse and self-destruction. Kim Young Sam, the traitor without an equal in history, must face stern judgement by the nation and history and kill himself.
