Rally and demonstration of S. Korean unionists
Pyongyang, February 10 (KCNA) -- Over 1,000 members of Mando Machinery and other trade unions in Taejon and South Chungchong Province under the South Korean Confederation of Trade Unions held a rally on Saturday to reject an unequal "agreement of labour-management-government", according to a radio report from Seoul.
The ralliers said the "agreement" could not be accepted as it would increase workers' unrest of employment and inflict greater pains upon them by "legitimatizing" lay-off and labour exchange systems without punishment of unreasonable actions against workers including management's unilateral reduction of manpower.
After the rally they staged a street demonstration.
R. S. calls for supporting proposal for reunification through confederacy
Pyongyang, February 10 (KCNA) -- Reunification through confederacy is the best way for ensuring lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula and guaranteeing security in northeast Asia, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary titled "Best way for lasting peace and security."
Any nation who desires peace and stability in and around the Korean Peninsula must support the DPRK's proposal for reunification through confederacy and do things helpful toward the reunification of Korea.
The analyst of the paper says:
The division of korea is the source of war.
If a war breaks out in Korea, its flames may unrestrictedly spread to surrounding areas.
If Korea is reunified in the form of confederacy, it will become one nation and one state, which will put an end to arms race on the Korean Peninsula, turn the demilitarized zone along the military demarcation line into a peace zone and eliminate the danger of military conflicts between the north and the south.
This will dispel apprehensions of neighbouring nations about possible war in Korea and put Asia and the world in peace.
The DPRK's proposal for reunification through confederacy envisages that regional governments in the north and the south will shape their own independent policies under the guidance of a confederal government.
Then, neighbouring nations can maintain relations they forged with the north and the south, their political, economic and security interests not being hurt.
S. Korean economy playing into hands of outsiders
Pyongyang, February 10 (KCNA) -- The South Korean economy has been placed under the trusteeship by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for d57 billion rescue money.
The United States, Japan, Britain and other nations affiliated with the IMF are putting pressure on South Korea in a bid to attain their purpose.
Particularly, the serious condition of the South Korean economy has been further deteriorated by the United States.
Last year when the South Korean economy was going from bad to worse, the standard and forward of the United States lowered the standard of confidence in South Korea, thus making foreign investors feel endangered.
South Korea's credibility degraded six stages on three occasions in less than one month till December 22 last year.
This is ascribable to the backstage manipulation of the United States.
As a result, South Korea has been driven into financial crisis. It is now on the verge of "state bankruptcy."
South Korea and the IMF reached a compromise on the implementation of terms of the IMF's financial aid in December last year. However, this was reduced to a mere sheet of paper by the united states, which complained that the compromise failed to fully reflect its demands. And it forced South Korea to fully open its capital and financial markets including widely opening its stock market and allowing foreigners and foreign enterprises to freely take over and annex local financial institutions and enterprises.
Yielding to these coercive demands, South Korea has taken anti-national measures in favour of the United States.
U.S. financial circles and "business hunters" are vying with each other in making their way into South Korean enterprises at a time when values of enterprises and banks have been dropped to the lowest level owing to the economic failure.
Japan also attained its purpose by urging South Korea to abrogate its diversification policy in imports.
Pressurized by the United States, Japan and other fund donators, South Korea is being driven deeper into the abyss of economic subjugation and destruction.
Great efforts made in reconstruction of King Tangun's mausoleum
Pyongyang, February 10 (KCNA) -- The mausoleum of King Tangun, the ancestral father of the Korean nation, is at the foot of Mt. Taebak, Kangdong county, Pyongyang. With an area of 45 hectares, it is carefully preserved as a nation's precious cultural treasure.
Five years ago, President Kim Il Sung gave instructions on how the tomb of King Tangun should be excavated and how it should be preserved as a national treasure.
A 22-metre-high quadrilateral stone pyramid tomb, stone sculptures and other ornaments give the visitors a feeling of royal majesty.
The full view of the mausoleum which has been reconstructed as a national monument reminds the visitors of great efforts made by President Kim Il Sung and General Kim Jong Il in order to prove the 5,000-year-long history of the Korean nation.
President Kim Il Sung instructed many times to excavate the tomb of King Tangun, stressing the need to put the history of ancient Korea, the first Korean state, on the correct order, which had been distorted by Japanese cringing historians.
At the beginning of 1993, he again set important tasks to be fulfilled in excavating the tomb. Thus the excavation work of the tomb progressed actively. In the course of this, the bones of Tangun and the remains of the dead were unearthed.
A scientific analysis proved that Tangun was not a legendary figure, but an actual figure who was born more than 5,000 years ago. It enabled the Korean people to regain the ancestral father of their nation and restore their 5,000-year-long history.
The 80-year-old President visited the tomb in Kangdong and called for reconstructing the tomb magnificently as befits one of the ancestral father of the Korean nation. He also gave dozens of instructions later on how the reconstruction work of the tomb should be carried out.
On July 6, 1994, two days before he died, while presiding over a consultative meeting of the senior economic officials, he examined the final layout of the mausoleum and urged the officials to accelerate reconstruction work.
True to the intentions of the President, General Kim Jong Il corrected mistakes in redressing the Korean history and provided archaeologists with all conditions for the reconstruction projects. He then formed a committee for reconstruction of the tomb and ensured that fund, materials and manpower were invested in the project in great profusion and all difficult problems were settled.
Thanks to his meticulous guidance the tomb was reconstructed in a short time.
General Kim Jong Il visited the reconstructed mausoleum in October 1994 and noted with great satisfaction that it was reconstructed magnificently as a national monument, as wished by the president. He also referred to the problems to be tackled in preserving and managing the mausoleum.
Great efforts exerted by the two leaders will remain in the memory of the nation for ever.
