G.S. Kim Jong Il gives on-site guidance to Songjin Steel Complex

Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) - General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave on-site guidance to the Songjin Steel Complex to light a signal fire of a fresh great upsurge. He was accompanied by Chief Secretary of the north Hamgyong provincial committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) Ri Kun Mo, secretaries of the C.C., WPK Choe Thae Bok, Kim Kuk Thae and Kim Ki Nam, Chairman of the State Transport Commission Ri Yong Mu and first vice department directors of the C.C., WPK Pak Song Bong and Jang Song Thaek. After seeing a monument to President Kim Il Sung's on-the-spot guidance, General Kim Jong Il made the rounds of the steel shop, the pressure tube shop and other shops, learning about how production was going on. He convened a consultative meeting of officials concerned at the complex and discussed measures to attain a high and steady rate of steel production. He then gave highly important tasks for launching a fresh great upsurge at the complex. He expressed great satisfaction at tremendous contributions made by the complex's workers for many years to the building of an independent national economy and the industrialization of the country. He said the Korean people including the workers who had created a brilliant history of struggle with singlehearted unity were advancing forward full of the conviction of sure victory and optimism, undaunted by the unprecedented hardships and trials. He said steel production was still important in economic construction, so it should be given priority. He called on the steelmakers of the complex, who had upheld the WPK with steel production in every hard time, to take the lead in effecting a great upsurge again in the spirit of Chollima. He stressed that in order to keel production going on at a high and steady rate, it was necessary to widely introduce the Juche-based steel-making process. He also voiced great satisfaction at many crucial problems concerning steel production solved by the complex in the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance. He said the complex should make efforts to produce more with materials and equipment it had. He noted that deep concern should always be paid to the supply service for the workers and that they should be supplied with larger quantities of vegetable, meat, fish and other non-staple foods and fully provided with modern dwelling houses and cultural and welfare facilities. He said that as north Hamgyong Province had such leading steel and iron producers of the nation as the Songjin Steel Complex and the Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex and many related enterprises, the provincial party committee should strengthen leadership over them.

DPRK missions abroad to be reduced by 30 percent

Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- The spokesman for the DPRK Foreign Ministry had an interview with KCNA today over the withdrawal of some DPRK missions abroad. He told KCNA: Years of devastating natural disasters have brought grave damage to the agricultural and all other economic sectors, rendering the food problem and the country's economic situation very difficult. And ill-boding signs have been seen in the vicinity of the DPRK, exerting grave influence on the general situation. To cope with the acute situation, we have decided to reduce and readjust missions abroad some by 30 percent until the food and economic problems are solved.

"Emergency" on Korean Peninsula means second Korean war

Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today carries a commentary titled "'Emergency' on the Korean Peninsula means second Korean war." The commentary says: On March 4, the south Korea-based U.S. Forces Commander announced that a latest-type commanding aircraft would be deployed in South Korea soon. The aircraft, called a "Flying Command Post," has been said to be confirmed in recent U.S.-South Korea joint military manoeuvres to be useful in "emergency" on the Korean Peninsula. The United States, allegedly to make up for a "military vacuum" caused by the Iraqi incident, has brought into South Korea huge military equipment including fighter-bombers, helicopter gunboats and warships, increasing its attack and war capacity. The fact indicates that the U.S. preparations for another war in Korea have already entered a practical stage. The U.S. warmaniacs intend to justify their provocation of another war in Korea with outcries over "emergency" on the peninsula and the DPRK's "military threat." By "emergency" on the peninsula, however, they mean second Korean war. Our army and people do not want a war. But they never beg for peace. If the U.S. warmaniacs dare ignite a war, misjudging the revolutionary will and preparedness of our army and people to answer dialogue with dialogue, war with war, they will suffer a thousandfold retaliation.

Fiftieth anniversary of Red Cross Hospital

Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- The Red Cross General Hospital of Korea has celebrated its fiftieth anniversary. Since it was founded as the country's mother hospital on March 10, Juche 37 (1948), the hospital has developed to be comprehensive base for medical treatment and prevention and for medical scientific researches with able medical workers and up-to-date medical equipment. A meeting marking the anniversary took place on Friday. Choe Thae Bok, alternate member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, conveyed a congratulatory message of the WPK Central Committee to the medical workers, scientists and other employees of the hospital. The message said the hospital's medical workers have made tremendous achievements in the efforts for preventing diseases, and made a great contribution to protecting people's lives and improving their health by realising the detailed specialization of medical service and devoting themselves to medical treatment. President of the hospital Ho Chol Ryong said in his report that 50 years ago, President Kim Il Sung and mother Kim Jong Suk, a fighter, personally chose the site of the hospital on the spot and founded the hospital. It was an event of weighty significance in the development of the nation's public health service, he said. He called for improving medical service and strengthening medical scientific researches to bring into full play the advantages of the Juche-based socialist public health system.

Replacement of "National Reunification Minister" of S. Korea urged

Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the National Democratic Front of South Korea (NDFSK) recently made public a statement denouncing the appointment of Kang In Dok as "Minister of National Unification", said Seoul-based radio Voice of National Salvation. He has been branded as an anti-communist, anti-reunification element in South Korea, who has taken the lead in pursuing the anti-north confrontation policy of the successive dictatorial regimes from the "Yusin" dictatorial period. His appointment is an act getting on nerves of the north and ignoring it and casting a doubt on the present regime's intention lurking behind its call for "cooperation" and "exchange", the statement said, and went on: It was natural that dissident and civic organisations held meetings of protest and published statements, strongly urging his dismissal. We strongly urge the present ruling quarters not to commit an anti-historic, anti-national blunder, a but to replace him with another immediately as demanded by people of all social strata, if they are sincerely willing to promote reconciliation and unity with the north and take the road of reunification.

"Crusade" to attain world domination

Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today comes out with a signed article laying bare the new "crusade" of the imperialists. The author of the article says: The imperialists are inventing new means and methods to attain their design to make the whole world a neo-colony and thus bring it under their control. One of them is the socalled "liberalisation" of religion on the lips of the United States. The campaign for "liberalisation" is precisely a new "crusade" to attain its dominationist design. "Crusade" of west feudal lords and warriors in the period between the late 11th century and 13th century was a brigandish aggression for colonial domination and plunder of the east, which was committed under the deceptive religious slogan of liberating jerusalem, the "holy land." The United States intends to launch a "crusade" into the political life, ideological and cultural life of other countries and nations. What it seeks in this is to eradicate their anti-imperialist, anti-American feelings which could not be stifled by military force and make them neo-colonies without shedding blood. The immediate purpose of its "crusade" being conducted under the signboard of "liberalisation" of religion is to make a breakthrough for infiltrating the western way of thinking in the political system of "obstinate" countries and nations. By including "liberalisation" of religion in the human rights issue, the U.S. intends to freely interfere in the internal affairs of other countries including those nations that go against the grain with it and, furthermore, reorganise their political systems in the western style. This is a vicious attempt to deprive anti-imperialist, anti-American countries of their Juche character and national identity.
