Rodong Sinmun on U.S. perfidious act

Pyongyang, March 15 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today accuses the United States of openly violating the framework agreement with the DPRK, breaking faith with it. In a commentary titled "the U.S. should keep faith" the daily says: Some time ago, the U.S. stated that it would keep on "nuclear retaliation threat," calling the DPRK a "hostile nation." it means that the U.S. will use nuclear weapons against the DPRK and continue presenting nuclear threat to it. The DPRK-U.S. framework agreement stipulates that the U.S. shall offer official assurances that it will not use nuclear weapons against the DPRK nor threaten it with nuclear weapons. The agreement requires its implementation. Then, how can we view the U.S. statement concerning "nuclear retaliation threat"? It is indeed the height of perfidious acts. We have something to tell the U.S. as regards the provision of light water reactors (lwr), too. Under the agreement, the U.S. is obliged to renounce its hostile policy through the relaxation of embargo on the DPRK and provide two lwrs, each with a million kw generating capacity, to the DPRK by 2003 on a turnkey basis. But the U.S. has taken no substantial step to ease sanctions but played on words for years. And it has made no progress in lwr construction, either, for the internal problems of the Korean Peninsula energy development organization including fund sharing. If the U.S. continues such perfidious acts, we cannot but go our way. If so, the U.S. should not take issue with the DPRK over the consequences but blame itself.

International youth meeting supports Korea's peaceful reunification

Pyongyang, March 15 (KCNA) -- An international solidarity meeting of youth supporting the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea was held in Cairo under the sponsorship of the world federation of democratic youth. It was attended by delegates of 30 youth organisations of 28 countries including Cuba, Brazil, Japan, Portugal and Egypt. Invited there was a delegation of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League. The reporter and speakers said that Korea must be reunified in the form of confederacy in accordance with the three major charters of national reunification. They flailed the presence of the U.S. in South Korea and voiced support and solidarity for the young Korean people in their struggle for the reunification of their country. The resolution adopted at the meeting said that the division of Korea, which has lasted for more than half a century, must be terminated at an early date and Korea be reunified independently and peacefully in keeping with the aspirations of the Korean people and with the trend of the present time. Pointing out that Korea's reunification must be achieved in the form of confederacy, the resolution stressed that the confederation formula is the most reasonable and realistic proposal for the reunification of Korea as different ideologies and systems have existed in the north and the south for more than half a century. It strongly urged that the South Korean authorities abolish the "National Security Law" at once and put an immediate end to the brutal crackdown upon the progressive, pro-democracy activities of students. In conclusion, it appealed to all the organisations of the world federation of democratic youth and friendly organisations to conduct solidarity activities supporting young Korean people in the struggle for the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea.
