President Kim Il Sung's work published in Pakistan

Pyongyang, April 5 (KCNA) -- "For a free and peaceful new world", a celebrated work of President Kim Il Sung, was brought out in booklet by the Pictorial Publishing House of Pakistan on April 1 to commemorate Sun's Day. In the preface the booklet said the work will greatly help readers understand the profound idea and theory of President Kim Il Sung.

Korean books donated in Nepal

Pyongyang, April 5 (KCNA) -- Korean books were donated to the Central Committee of the United People's Front of Nepal on April 1 with due ceremony to commemorate Sun's Day. At the ceremony the Korean ambassador conveyed the books to the President of the front central committee. Among those books donated were famous works of President Kim Il Sung and General Kim Jong Il and President Kim Il Sung's reminiscences "With the Century". The President said the Workers' Party and people of Korea reliably defended the sovereignty of the country and the nation from the imperialists' aggression and built people-centred socialism under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung, an outstanding leader of Asia and the rest of the world. The Korean people are now braving all challenges of the imperialists and vigorously struggling to defend socialism under the guidance of General Kim Jong Il who is creditably carrying forward the President's cause.

Action programme of Hanthongryon adopted

Tokyo, April 5 (KNS-KCNA) -- The sixth conference of the Federation of South Koreans in Japan for Democracy and Unification (Hanthongryon) was held here some time ago, at which its action programme for 1998 was adopted. Included in the programme are activities of achieving the reunification of the country through reconciliation and unity between the north and the south, checking war moves of the U.S. and Japanese reactionaries, establishing a peace-keeping mechanism in the Korean peninsula, supporting the South Korean people's struggle for vital rights, maintaining the Juche character of the nation and defending the national rights of Korean residents in Japan. Hanthongryon Chairman Kwak Tong Ui told the conference that it is a contradiction to call for exchange between the north and the south regarding the north, reunification partner, as "enemy" and that the "National Security Law" should be abrogated in South Korea.

Cuban embassy officials visit International Friendship Exhibition

Pyongyang, April 5 (KCNA) -- Cuban ambassador to Korea Jose Ramon Rodriguez Varona and embassy officials visited the International Friendship Exhibition on April 3 on the occasion of Sun's Day. The guests saw round with deep emotion the gifts to President Kim Il Sung and General Kim Jong Il from party leaders and heads of state, officials of political and public circles and people of all strata of different countries of the world. The ambassador wrote in the visitor's book that he visited the wonderful exhibition showing the greatness of President Kim Il Sung and his loving care for the people. The gifts on display are associated with the reverence of the revolutionary people of the world for President Kim Il Sung, the founder of the DPRK, he added. He wished the fraternal Korean people would continue achieving successes under the guidance of General Kim Jong Il.

Preview of feature film "the Nation and Destiny" part 43

Pyongyang, April 5 (KCNA) -- A preview of the working-class part 10 of the multi-part feature film "the Nation and Destiny" (part 43) took place at the People's Palace of Culture on Saturday. The film was recently released by the Korean Film Studio. Appreciating the film were senior officials of the party and government, leading officials of central organs, anti-Japanese revolutionary veterans and other working people. The working-class part 10, which was highly estimated by General Secretary Kim Jong Il, vividly shows that the Jin Ung San workteam has the honor of being the first Chollima workteam, deeply trusted by President Kim Il Sung. Filmizing the noble trait of President Kim Il Sung who nominated the workteam to the first Chollima workteam and proclaimed Kangson as the birthplace of Chollima, it shows well his immortal feats and benevolent politics in initiating the Chollima movement, wisely leading it and making a great advance of socialist construction in the postwar period.

"Mangyongdae Prize" sports tournament opens

Pyongyang, April 5 (KCNA) -- The "Mangyongdae Prize" sports tournament opened here on Saturday with due ceremony to commemorate Sun's Day. Present at the opening ceremony were Kim Jung Rin, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Jang Chol, Vice-Premier of the Administration Council, and officials concerned. The tournament includes 40 events such as basketball, volleyball, football, combat sports and athletics. It is held in Pyongyang and local areas. First vice-chairman Jang Son Gang of the State Physical Culture and Sports Commission said in his opening address that President Kim Il Sung put forward the policy of popularizing sports and wisely led the work for its materialisation. General Secretary Kim Jong Il made sure that the "Mangyongdae Prize" sports tournament is held every year to significantly commemorate April 15, and gave many teachings on the development of the physical culture and sports of the country last year, too, and guided sportsmen and sportswomen, he noted. He called upon all the athletes to set new records at the current tournament to brilliantly adorn Sun's Day.

Korea is sure to be reunified

Pyongyang, April 5 (KCNA) -- Ri Sang Chol, Chief of the Pyongyang mission of the National Democratic Front of South Korea (NDFSK), was interviewed by the KCNA at the building of the mission on April 4 on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the publication of President Kim Il Sung's famous work "10-Point Programme of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation for the Reunification of the Country." Referring to the undying feats shining forever in the cause of the reunification which were performed by President Kim Il Sung till the last moment of his great life, the chief said that the Ten-Point Programme of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation is the most reasonable and realistic, political programme of national unity that is acceptable to anyone, and a milestone which helps the entire fellow countrymen achieve reunification with clear orientation for national reunification and faith. General Secretary Kim Jong Il formulated the three principles of national reunification, the proposal for founding the Democratic Confederal Republic of Koryo and the Ten-Point Programme of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation as the three charters of national reunification and has led the cause of reunification, he stressed. He said that the people in the south should take the lead in the struggle to have the "National Security Law" and the "Agency for National Security Planning", which go against the movement for social independence and democratisation and reunification, abrogated and in the struggle to block the division and open a chapter of pro-north reconciliation with concerted efforts under the banner of the Ten-Point Programme of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation.
