Rodong Sinmun on ill-boding military moves in S. Korea

Pyongyang, April 7 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today comments on the ill-boding military moves going on in South Korea these days. In a signed commentary entitled "for what are they continuously sending off the smell of powder?" the news analyst of the paper says: Sometime ago, the South Korean warmaniacs staged a large-scale tactical training in the area of Nam Hill in Seoul with the mobilisation of units belonging to the "army metropolitan defence command." Earlier, "special warfare" units of South Korea staged a war exercise against the north in the mountainous areas of north Jolla province similar to the mountainous areas of the northern half of Korea in topographical conditions. While in the exercise, six commandos died. This fact eloquently shows how frantically the exercise was held. Far from drawing a lesson from the past wrong confrontation policy, the present South Korean regime is rushing headlong along the road of confrontation and war against the north as its predecessor did. Its war rackets are little different from the "civilian"-veiled rulers' in their aspect and wildness. The South Korean ruling quarters must draw lessons from the disgraceful doom of the "civilian" warmaniacs and stop the war exercises against the north at once. It is no use crying over spilt milk. They must ponder over things before it is too late for regret.

They planted a large number of trees such as pine, pine-nut and persimmon, recalling immortal exploits of President Kim Il Sung, who opened a new history of land construction long ago and worked heart and soul to provide wealth for national prosperity and development and for happiness of the posterity. And they asked working people to effect a new turn in the afforestation and the implementation of their revolutionary duty by pushing ahead with the forced march for the final victory, encouraged by the torch kindled by General Kim Jong Il at the Songjin Steel Complex.

Rodong Sinmun on achieving great national unity

Pyongyang, April 7 (KCNA) -- If the aspirations and desire of the Korean people to enjoy a happy life in one prospering territory are to be realized at an early date, national concord and unity should be achieved. Rodong Sinmun today says this in a signed article headlined "great national unity, a matter of great concern to national reunification." The daily goes on: The Korean nation has a good political programme, the guideline of concord and unity. "10-Point Programme of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation for the Reunification of the Country" put forward by President Kim Il Sung is a great programme and library of national unity, the most reasonable and realistic, that is acceptable to anyone who truly loves the country and the nation and wants the reunification of the country. Clarified in the programme are the target and ideological basis of great national unity, the principle and ways of unity. The Ten-Point Programme of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation is indeed a matter of great concern to national reunification and the banner of victory which should be held high in carrying out the cause of national reunification. The present situation in which the inter-Korean relations are at a new turning-point more urgently requires great unity of the Korean nation than anytime. The entire fellow countrymen in the north, south and abroad should give priority to the interests common to the nation and maintain the principle of unity on its basis, regardless of differences in ideology, idea and system. In order to achieve national reconciliation and unity under the banner of the ten-point programme, South Korea should renounce the policy of depending on outsiders and stop the suppression of pro-reunification patriotic forces. South Korea should no longer pursue the flunkeyist treacherous politics of placing outsiders above the fellow countrymen and depending on outsiders.

U.S. hit for its ambition for domination over Asia

Pyongyang, April 7 (KCNA) -- The U.S. argument about "Asian country," a sophistry of U.S.-centered thinking and concept, is a doctrine of aggression for monopolistic domination over Asia, says Rodong Sinmun in a signed article today. Commenting on the claim of the U.S. ruling quarters that the U.S. is a powerful country of Asia and that the U.S. is an Asian state from geographical, administrative and social point of view, the article says it is a far-fetched allegation. The U.S. is geographically in north America. In view of social life, the U.S. way of life is different from that of Asian countries. Asians and Americans are diametrically different from each other in race, customs and skin color, the article says, and goes on: The U.S. is pursuing the policy of interference in the internal affairs of Asia, clamouring for its identification with Asian countries. Because the U.S. has the power of life and death over South Korea, its colony, and regards Japan as an ally under its control and "an unsinkable aircraft carrier". The U.S. is trying to organise a "band" of some Asian countries with South Korea and Japan at core and become its conductor. The U.S. is attaching importance to the Asia policy, caused by its internal factor. Financial and economic crisis has recently swept Asia. But the U.S. does not think that the strategic and economic status of Asia will be weakened in the future. This is why the U.S. is trying to realise its strategic interests in the region by disguising itself as "An Asian country." It is the U.S. strategic plan to establish a new order in Asia under the U.S. control and make Asian countries move according to its baton and will. The U.S. argument is a reactionary U.S.-centered doctrine on domination over Asia. Never can it be justifiable in any case. Nor can the U.S. ambition for domination over Asia be realised.

The opening of ambassador-level diplomatic relations was an important occasion in deepening understanding and developing friendship and cooperation between the peoples of Korea and Sweden, a signed article of the paper says, and goes on: The two countries, in the past 25 years, have made efforts to develop bilateral state relations and strengthen economic and cultural exchange on the basis of equality and mutual respect. The friendly relations between the two countries are ever developing on good terms. This is conducive to the building of a new society in the two countries. To further develop the friendly relations accords with the desire and interests of the two peoples. The friendly ties will further develop in the idea of independence, peace and friendship.

For assured supply of water

Pyongyang, April 7 (KCNA) -- A great deal of energy is being directed to the supply of more water needed for paddy farming in Korean rural areas. The rural communities in South Hamgyong Province have put a lot of effort into the solution of the water problem from the outset of the year with a view to having a good harvest this year, which coincides with the 50th anniversary of the DPRK. The Ponghung Cooperative Farm in Yonggwang county, the Kawon Cooperative Farm in Tanchon city and many other cooperative farms which had found difficulty in agricultural production last year owing to a long drought mapped out plans to build more reservoirs this year and pushed ahead with projects, thus providing a condition for securing 900 jongmi of more water than before (one jongmi is 10,000 cubic metres of water). The Unjong Cooperative Farm in Kumya county, the Unha Cooperative Farm in Hongwon county and the Pudong Cooperative Farm in Pukchong county enlarged more than 10 of their existing reservoirs to enable them to store 500 Jongmi of more water than last year. Meanwhile, the province saw to it that every cooperative farm pushed forward the provision of subsidiary water resources, such as small reservoirs and wells, to store a large amount of water. Unryul, Anak and Sinchon counties in South Hwanghae Province carried out projects for making dammed polls to obtain 7,000 jongmi of water. In Unryul county a 40-km-long waterway was built to supply irrigation water to 12 cooperative farms. In Kangnam county in Pyongyang 2,200-metre-long waterway is being cut in parallel with the construction of several culverts and pumping stations. When completed, the farm lands within the county will be supplied with enough water.
