Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- Minju Joson today, commenting on the recent ill-boding moves of the U.S., Japan and the South Korean puppets against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, describes their moves to stifle the DPRK as foolish as to try to break a rock by an egg. The comment comes at a time when it is said the U.S., Japan and South Korea exchange information on the situation and armed forces of North Korea with one another and have discussions on the possibility of increasing "military cooperation" and that their confab will continue in the future, too. The news analyst says: Their frantic campaign to stifle the DPRK is based on their common ambition. S. Korean authorities troubled with compensation issue

Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- The South Korean authorities is driven into a tight corner by a judgement of a district court of Japan concerning compensation to "comfort women for the army", according to a radio report from Seoul. The Shimonoseki branch of the Yamaguchi district court of Japan at the first trial as regards a suit filed by three South Korean women, who had been disgraced by the Japanese imperial army as "comfort women", made a judgement in favour of them. The judgement said that as the Japanese government is obliged to take a step for recovering the sufferings of the "comfort women", Japan should make state compensation. The judgement did not touch upon Japan's apology for the past crimes, but it will have a strong influence on the compensation issue, the radio said. The U.S. news media said that it is a stern judgement, adding that it is a clear setback to the Japanese government that has refused to compensate to war victims. The South Korean authorities are driven into a tight corner by this judgement. They are all the more perplexed because the judgement came after the new "government" announced that it would not ask the Japanese government to make "government"-level compensation.

Papers observe May Day

Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- Papers here today dedicate editorials to May Day, the international holiday of workers all over the world. The editorials say that on this occasion the Korean working class and people extend militant greetings and firm solidarity to the working class and people of the whole world who are struggling for sovereignty, independence, peace and the socialist cause against all sorts of domination and subjugation. It was under the meticulous leadership of President Kim Il Sung that the Korean working class has honorably carried out its historical tasks in each period of revolution. The revolutionary stamina of the Korean working class is demonstrated all the more under the leadership of General Kim Jong Il, say the papers. An editorial of Rodong Sinmun stresses that the Korean working class is a vanguard which upholds the headquarters of revolution in the van and a revolutionary rank boundlessly faithful to socialism. The Korean working class has always supported the anti-imperialist cause of independence and the socialist cause of other people under banner of unity and remains faithful to the international duty even now when the socialist movement is undergoing trials. It is unthinkable apart from the tested leadership of General Kim Jong Il that the Korean working class is creditably carrying out its mission and duty as the leading class of revolution for the times and history. The entire working class should firmly unite around the General in one mind and always be a vanguard in upholding his idea and leadership. The editorial calls upon the working class to display again its heroic stamina in the present forced march for final victory by vigorously struggling in the same spirit and the same stamina as in the period of the Chollima movement after the war in response to the calls of the Workers' Party of Korea Central Committee. The entire working class should firmly defend its class stand and the socialist principle even under the difficult and complicated situation. Says the editorial. Under the banner of the Pyongyang Declaration, it notes, the Korean working class should firmly unite with the revolutionary parties and working class of the world to defend and advance the socialsit cause and make all efforts to realise global independence against imperialism in the idea of independence, peace and friendship.
