New salt refinery
Pyongyang, May 15 (KCNA) -- A modern salt refinery has been built on the shore of Kwangryang Bay in the West Sea of Korea.
It produces high-quality powdered salt with various nutritive elements.
The refinery was built in half a year.
General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspecting a KPA unit in February Juche 85 (1996), had a taste of soy supplied to soldiers and worriedly said that its quality was not so good.
Afterwards, he took a step for supplying soy, best in taste and color, to the whole army. It was not until he acquainted himself with the result while inspecting KPA units that he felt easy.
He made sure that a modern salt refinery was built for the sake of the soldiers, saying that only when salt tastes good can soy, bean paste and non-staple foodstuffs be delicious.
Some time ago, he called at the newly-built salt refinery, tasted salt and noted with great satisfaction that his desire to supply tasty soy and salt of good quality to the servicemen had been realised.

Remarks reversing black and white = KCNA commentary =
Pyongyang, May 15 (KCNA) -- U.S. ambassador to South Korea Bosworth delivered a bellicose address at a breakfast of retired generals of the South Korean army on May 12.
In this address, he groundlessly slandered the DPRK, alleging that it still keeps hostile tensions and that a solid deterrent to war must be maintained.
His remarks do not become an ambassador. Moreover, it is hard to understand that they are remarks of a person styling himself as an expert in the issue of the Korean peninsula.
As is well known to the world, the cause of the political and military tensions on the Korean peninsula is the U.S. troops' occupation of South Korea, arms buildup and the war exercises ceaselessly staged to isolate and stifle the DPRK.
Bosworth probably knows well that this does not suit the spirit of the DPRK-U.S. agreed framework nor comply with the purpose of the "four-way talks" aimed at ensuring peace on the Korean peninsula.
Nevertheless, he showed up at the meeting of South Korean extreme rightists, where he hurled slanders at the DPRK and cried for "deterrent to war." This cannot be construed otherwise than an undisguised war agitation and provocation.
His rigmarole fully reveals the true intention of the United States to keep its colonial rule over South Korea, not abandoning its anachronistic Korea policy. Accordingly, this cannot be pardoned under any circumstances.
The United States must abandon its ulterior design to keep the Korean nation divided into two in defiance of the will of the Korean people for national reunification and dominate them, going against the trend of the era of independence, and must withdraw its troops from South Korea.
Order instituted to commemorate 50th anniversary of DPRK
Pyongyang, May 15 (KCNA) -- The Central People's Committee of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea issued a decree dated May 6 on instituting the DPRK 50th anniversary commemoration order.
According to the decree, the DPRK, in the past 50 years, has squarely taken the road of Juche, breaking through manifold hardships and difficulties and turned into a powerful socialist state of independence, self-sustenance and self-reliance in national defence with the firm independent national economy, bright national culture and powerful national defence capacities under the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung and the Workers' Party of Korea.
The order was instituted to exalt the exploits of President Kim Il Sung, the father of socialist Korea, in state building for all ages and to commemorate the proud 50 years full of victory and glory covered by the republic, said the decree.
The decree approved regulations of awarding the order and diagram.
Rodong Sinmun condemns suppression of labour movement in S. Korea
Pyongyang, May 15 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today says the anti-social colors of South Korea's present regime have been revealed clearly.
In a commentary the daily further says:
The South Korean puppets held a "meeting for practical measures" on Thursday and decided to "strictly cope" with large-scale rallies labor organizations plan to hold from May 16.
The decision is a wanton violation of the South Korean workers' democratic freedom and rights, especially their vital rights.
It does not take much vision to foresee what attitude the present regime, which has already uncovered its fascist colors from the very outset, will take towards the people.
The regime must stop the harsh suppression of the workers at once.
Lie can never work
Pyongyang, May 15 (KCNA) -- Some media of South Korea are alleging that the south and the north of Korea will participate in five Asian nations' boxing tournament as a single team and they have reached a "final agreement" to open a "joint photo exhibition" in Seoul and Pyongyang.
Commenting on the groundless allegation, Rodong Sinmun today says the north has neither agreed with the south on such matters nor invited South Koreans to visit Pyongyang.
The daily further says:
The "Korean Broadcasting System" (KBS), a waiting maid of the "government" authorities, has been forsaken by the nation for its hackwork.
It has invented any kind of lies for money.
It is only too natural that the international community calls it "waiting maid of the regime" and "master-hand at false propaganda."
Lie can never work.
South Korean media must not serve the "government" authorities seeking to improve their public image by deceiving the people into believing that exchange and cooperation are going on between the two halves of the country, but report true things to contribute to inter-Korean reconciliation and cooperation.
Rodong Sinmun rejects U.S. military presence in East Asia
Pyongyang, May 15 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun in a commentary today castigates the united states for trying to keep its troops 100,000 strong in East Asia including the Korean peninsula.
The news analyst says:
The United States claimed that if its troops take hands off East Asia, "vacuum of strength" will come about and "arms race will take place." The U.S. allegation is aimed at keeping the upper hand of strength in this region and pursuing military intervention and war policy.
The South Korean puppets are opposing the U.S. troops' pullout from South Korea, keeping in tune with the United States, in an attempt to maintain their power with the backing of the U.S. and attack someone on the strength of the U.S. troops.
The United States should give up its wild ambition for predominance over the Asia-Pacific region and its attempt to stifle the DPRK and should withdraw its troops from South Korea.
Japan needs international confidence
Pyongyang, May 15 (KCNA) -- Recently, the Japanese government in a "resolution" appealed to other countries to support its permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council.
Commenting on the fact, Minju Joson today describes the appeal as an obtrusive behavior.
The daily says:
It is really ludicrous that Japan is trying to get a permanent seat on the UN Security Council, while calling for structural reforms of the UN and advertising its "contribution" and "capacity."
By the "contribution" Japan apparently means its financial contribution to the UN. Such a thinking pattern is suitable to the political dwarf.
The permanent membership of the UN Security Council is not a thing which can be bought with money.
It is clear that the permanent seat cannot be taken by Japan, which has neither admitted nor apologized for the monstrous crimes against humankind and which vacillates now to the left and now to the right with submissive diplomacy.
The Japanese government must be mindful of this and behave itself. If it truly wants to be a permanent member of the UN Security Council, it should do all it has to do.
Above all, it should admit the state and legal responsibility for the anti-ethical crimes of the blackest dye the Japanese imperialists committed in the past, and make a clear-cut apology and an adequate compensation for them. Only then, can Japan cleanse its dishonor.
Japan should not bow to others' requests, pressure and order but deal with all issues with its own view and invariable position so as to win international confidence.
