S. Korea: rally for measures for unemployed
Pyongyang, May 31 (KCNA) -- A "people's rally for employment and measures for the unemployed" took place on Seoul railway station plaza on Saturday, a Seoul-based radio reported.
The rally was attended by some 4,000 unionists under the (south) Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) and students under the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils.
The ralliers strongly called for a halt to massive unemployment enforced under the reactionary lay-off system and for renegotiation with the international monetary fund, which inflicts sufferings on the workers and other people.
The fascist regime posted some 6,000 riot police of 60 companies around the venue of the rally and tried to check the participation of workers and students in the rally.
Angry workers and students physically clashed with police.
At the end of the rally, the participants marched on Myongdong Cathedral.
The puppet authorities laid a strict cordon around the cathedral with 10,000 police to check their struggle, and threatened to walk away and prosecute demonstrators.
The Chairman of the KCTU warned that in case the authorities prosecute the demonstrators, the second general strike slated for next month will be called earlier than scheduled.
Militarist ambition and flunkeyist nature
Pyongyang, May 31 (KCNA) -- Japan and the South Korean puppets are tightening bilateral ties.
They are now calling for "building of future-oriented bilateral relations" and "establishment of new partnership."
Rodong Sinmun today says their tieup reveals the Japanese reactionaries' militarist ambition for strengthening their political and economic domination of South Korea.
Japan is seeking to realise its ambition for military expansion and gaining supremacy over northeast Asia in the 21st century with South Korea as a springboard the daily says, and continues:
It legalized overseas dispatch of troops through the revision of the "Japan-U.S. Defense Cooperation Guidelines" last year. It set itself the goal of instituting military tieup with the South Korean puppets under the pretext of "strengthening U.S.-Japan-South Korea defense cooperation."
It is for this goal that a three-way "working-level defense consultation" was held in April.
W1th South Korea suffering a serious economic crisis, Japan intends to plunge South Korea deeper into its economic subjugation with "financial aid" and "improvement of relations" and, at the same time, wind up in its favor negotiations for fishery agreement with South Korea and gloss over the settlement of the past including the "comfort women" issue.
The moves to tighten relations between Japan and South Korea are a product of the South Korean puppets' despicable flunkeyist nature.
Th1 puppets, who are in the grip of a serious economic crisis, are trying to prolong their days with Japan's help.
They also want to impede the improvement of DPRK-Japan relations and emerge from isolation by tightening relations with Japan.
International support for Korean people's struggle

S. Korean fascist clique's suppression condemned
Pyongyang, May 31 (KCNA) -- The All-India Trade Union Congress recently released a statement denouncing the South Korean fascist clique's suppression of workers.
The statement denounced the South Korean "government" for having harshly cracked down on workers in peaceful rallies and demonstrations for vital rights and freedom of trade union activities against massive lay-off, by mobilizing some 17,000 riot police.
The "people's government" of South Korea driven into a serious political and economic crisis has launched unprecedented campaign to crack down upon struggle of people including workers, the statement said.
It urged the South Korean "government" to stop at once brutal suppression of workers.
Five-point policy of great national unity hailed
Pyongyang, May 31 (KCNA) -- Party leaders of different countries sent messages of solidarity to General Kim Jong Il, expressing full support to the five-point policy of great national unity set forth in his historic work "Let Us Reunify the Country Independently and Peacefully Through the Great Unity of the Entire Nation."
Wisal Farha Bagdash, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Syria, said that the five-point policy is a genuine program for the great unity of the Korean nation and the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea.
Boleslaw Jaszczuk, Chairman of the c.c., the Left Radical Party of Poland, said the progressive leftist forces of the world are extending full support to the policy, adding his party's position is invariable.
He said, "We have always supported and will continue supporting the Korean people's efforts to build an independent, unified state."
Rodong Sinmun supports 6th-term Hanchongryon
Pyongyang, May 31 (KCNA) -- South Korean students inaugurated the 6th-term South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) in defiance of the fascist regime's harsh suppression, demonstrating that the invincible patriotic vanguard of independence, democracy and reunification can never be stifled and its just cause cannot be checked by any suppression, says Rodong Sinmun today.
In a commentary the daily says:
As the inaugural ceremony showed, Hanchongryon has been further united, neither disintegrated nor stifled, in defiance of the fascist regime's white terrorism.
The South Korean puppets are now openly revealing the intention to stifle Hanchongryon. It clearly shows that "democratic politics" and "politics for the people" advertised by the present regime are all hypocrisy and it is a group of the same fascists and anti-social murderers as the former dictators.
The suppression of Hanchongryon is a treacherous act which can be justified with nothing.
