DPRK's small submarine seems to be wrecked on East Sea
Pyongyang, June 23 (KCNA) -- A small submarine of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea seems to be wrecked while in a training on the East Sea of Korea off Kosong. It was at 2 p.m. June 20 that it let the base know that it had troubles in a nautical observation instrument, oil pressure system and submerging and surfacing machines. Now the life or death of the crew is unknown. The submarine seems to be wrecked in ocean currents and wave.
An appropriate organ of the DPRK is now searching for the submarine and its crew.
Party given by honorary chairman of S. Korean Hyundai Business Group
Pyongyang, June 23 (KCNA) -- Honorary chairman of the South Korean Hyundai Business Group Jong Ju Yong gave a party at the People's Palace of Culture on Monday upon concluding his visit to Pyongyang.
Invited to the party were Kim Yong Sun, chairman of the Korean Asia-Pacific Peace Committee, Ri Song Dae, chairman of the External Economic Affairs Commission, Jong Un Op, chairman of the National Economic Cooperation Federation, and other officials concerned.
Entourage of the honorary chairman were on hand.
Jong Ju Yong said in his speech it seemed like a dream that he came to his hometown, near and far, which is linked by the same sky, cloud and land. He called upon the nation to build a new milestone for a rich and prospering country and start with concerted efforts.
The south and north should cooperate with each other and achieve the prosperity of the country, he said, adding: Let Us come together along the bright and glorious road toward reunification and reconciliation on the basis of current cooperation.
He said: Let us hand a reunified country down to our posterity. I extend sincere thanks to General Kim Jong Il for laying the foundation for it.
Song Ho Gyong, vice-chairman of the Korean Asia-Pacific Peace Committee, said: Jong Ju Yong promised to join us in the efforts for our country and our nation, with unusual love for the hometown and the nation. I highly praise this noble mind.
General Kim Jong Il, leader of the nation, made sure that the ardent desire of the honorary chairman to come to Pyongyang through Panmunjom was realized. He is leading and putting up those who have made true contributions to the reunification of the country and the prosperity of the nation with national conscience.

Rodong Sinmun calls for advancing merrily
Pyongyang, June 23 (KCNA) -- "Let us advance merrily, though our way is rugged !" is a slogan of struggle and life with which the Korean workers and people of other social standings put up in the ongoing forced march.
Rodong Sinmun says this in an editorial today.
The paper continues:
The slogan is full of rare optimism to carry on the revolution under the uplifted red flag in the teeth of difficulties lying in the way of the revolution and offensive on the part of any formidable enemy.
It is a banner of struggle that can be held up only by those of firm faith and will who pull through hardships, relying on rare courage and grit= It is a slogan of life that can be held up only by the Korean people who live and fight full of revolutionary optimism in any adversity.
The Korean people do not give in to hardships. Nor do they live a prosaic life in the face of difficulties. They push ahead with the revolution with redoubled efforts in the teeth of a smear campaign intensified by the enemy to isolate and stifle them.
The slogan of optimism can be put up only by a great people who value the future most.
The Korean people smile in the face of all hardships and make a long journey, pulling through difficulties, convinced of the future of the country which will be built into a strong and prosperous country of Juche.
General Kim Jong Il's faith in certain victory and his feeling heart serve as the source of strength to lead the Korean people to become a gallant and optimistic people.

Jong Ju Yong leaves
Panmunjom, June 23 (KCNA) -- Jong Ju Yong, honorary chairman of the South Korean Hyundai Business Group, and his party left Pyongyang and crossed Panmunjom today.
They were seen off at Panmunjom by vice-chairman Song Ho Gyong of the Korean Asia-Pacific Peace Committee, chairman Jong Un Op of the National Economic Cooperation Federation and officials concerned.
Basketball game between Korea and Italy
Pyongyang, June 23 (KCNA) -- The second basketball game between the men's teams of the DPRK "Uroe" and the Fabriano club of Italy was held here on June 22.
The DPRK team beat the opponent 91-87.
Extra-large criminal kidnapping by Japan exposed
Pyongyang, June 23 (KCNA) -- The DPRK committee for investigation into losses caused by Japanese imperialist occupation of Korea on June 22 made public a statement on the forcible drafting of Koreans by the Japanese imperialists.
The statement said:
Japan has not yet admitted nor apologized for the unethical kidnapping of Koreans committed in the first half of the 20th century though the present century is closing.
On the contrary, it is employing every conceivable means to bury the criminal abduction in oblivion and thus conceal its true colors as an assailant and paint itself as a sufferer.
The forcible drafting of Koreans by the Japanese imperialists was an extra-large criminal abduction committed by the Japanese state.
Historically, Japan has maintained its existence with kidnapping, plunder and looting of other nations. Kidnapping has been its major state policy.
The Japanese imperialists' abduction and forcible drafting of young and middle-aged Koreans far surpassed the slave-hunting in medieval ages in terms of barbarity.
They openly kidnapped and forcibly drafted Koreans under the name of "conscription" and "compulsory labour."
Those victims who were once kidnapped and conscripted for military service and forced labour and as "comfort women" were unanimous in saying that they were not "conscripted" but forcibly abducted and arrested.
The process of the forcible drafting of Korean women as "comfort women" eloquently exposed its true colors as kidnapping.
The criminal kidnapping of Koreans by Japan, which took discrimination and contempt, maltreatment and murder of other nations as its way of existence, was an unethical and inhumane war crime negating human rights to qualifications and status.
Exposing the heinous crime of Japan in killing abducted young and middle-aged Koreans in groups, the statement continued:
After they started the Pacific War in 1941, the Japanese imperialists occupied Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines and other southeast Asian countries and many islands on the pacific and turned them into hell of backbreaking labour and graveyards for drafted Koreans.
The Japanese imperialist aggression army used young Korean men and women in battlefields and occupied areas, as workers and "comfort women" and murdered them in groups.
Arafune, former deputy speaker of the house of representatives from the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, told voters:
"143,000 Korean comfort women died. They were murdered by the Japanese army."
Millions of people fell victims to kidnapping, drafting and massacre by the Japanese imperialists. Such truculent atrocities have left indelible wounds and grudge on the Korean people.
This notwithstanding, Japan is still indifferent to its past crimes and, on the contrary, is kicking up an anti-DPRK racket over "suspected kidnapping."
The Japanese authorities must fully admit their responsibility for all the criminal acts including the forcible drafting of Koreans and thoroughly investigate and publish the truth behind them.
Japanese reactionaries hit for nuclear design
Pyongyang, June 23 (KCNA) -- Director Omori of the legislative bureau of the Japanese cabinet told the budgetary committee of the House of Councillors of Japan on June 17 that nuclear weapons may be used in view of the constitution.
Rodong Sinmun today, commenting on his utterances, says we consider his very grave and dangerous utterances manifest an official position of the Japanese government on possession and use of nuclear arms.
The news analyst says:
A high-level authority, who speaks for the stand and viewpoint of the government, insisted on the legal validity of Japan's use of nuclear weapons. His insistence is precisely the stand of the Japanese government authorites.
It is nobody's secret that Japan has wanted to become a nuclear power and made all preparations for nuclear armament and is watching for a chance.
Japan, the only victim of nuclear holocaust in the world, knows the danger and catastrophic consequences of nuclear weapons better than any other countries.
It, however, has set its face against the ban on the use of nuclear weapons at international meetings. Its opposition is motivated by its ulterior intention to use nuclear weapons.
No one can vouch that in case overseas military operation of the "self-defence forces" is approved by law and an institutional mechanism is set up for it Japan will not take the road of overseas aggression along with nuclear weapons.
The Japanese reactionaries are steeped in militarist idea of overseas aggression to the marrow of their bones.
Minju Joson in a signed commentary says the Japanese reactionaries are making desperate efforts to realise their design of overseas expansion, even relying on nuclear weapons, but they will get nothing but destruction from it.
Ideologically strong country
Pyongyang, June 23 (KCNA) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea is independently advancing along the road chosen by itself without undergoing any failure or setback because it is an ideologically strong country, says Rodong Sinmun in an article today.
The article says in part:
General Kim Jong Il, with distinguished intelligence and energetic ideological and theoretical activities, has comprehensively systematized leader Kim Il Sung's revolutionary idea, the Juche idea, and steadily enriched it with new principles and contents in compliance with the requirements of the present era and our developing revolution.
The ideologically strong country means a country which achieved the sameness in ideology.
It is its features that all the people live and struggle in one mind, fully armed with the guiding idea of the Workers' Party of Korea.
The basic one of the features is the indestructible singlehearted unity.
In our socialist homeland of Juche, all the people are fully equipped with the great Juche idea and, on its basis, the invincible unity of the WPK and the revolutionary ranks has been achieved.
While leading the revolution and construction, Kim Jong Il has considered it vital to the destiny of the DPRK to fully arm the masses of the people with the Juche idea of the WPK and closely unite them around the party, and made all efforts for this purpose.
The Korean people absolutely believe in only the WPK's idea and work hard to implement what the party and the leader plan and intend. As the great people break through any hardships optimistically, in the spirit of devotedly defending the leader and the spirit of human bomb and suicidal attack our ideological position of socialism will always be strong.
Head of state in his thirties
Pyongyang, June 23 (KCNA) -- The Korean people had the great leader President Kim Il Sung, who accomplished the
undying cause of state building in his thirties , as head of state for nearly half a century.
He died in harness while leading the party, state and army of Korea.
He put forward the Juche-based line of government building in his teens, set up the original people's revolutionary government in the guerrilla base in his twenties and was elected head of state in his thirties and vreated a new history of building a socialist state.
Based on the rich experience he gained during the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle, he cemented the political foundation of the people's government and consolidated the socio-economic foundation in a short period right after the liberation of the country.
Under his wise guidance the country was called the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and its flag and emblem were instituted.
After the north-south general election ended with success on September 2, Juche 37 (1948), the historic first session of the Supreme People's Assembly took place at the Moranbong Theatre, Pyongyang, amid the deep interest and great expectation of the entire Korean nation.
He, the young commander of Mt. Paektu, was elected head of state in his thirties at the session on September 8. He proclaimed the foundation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to the whole world on Sept. 9.
The DPRK foundation was the appearance of Kim Il Sung's nation and the grand birth of Kim Il Sung's Korea.
Korea, which is holding President Kim Il Sung in high esteem forever as founder of the country and father of socialist Korea, is to grandly mark the 50th anniversary of the National Day this year.
The National Day celebrations in September will be a grand festival which will make a boast of the pride of the Korean people who are holding the great Kim Jong Il, who is identical with the president, in high esteem as the leader.
Maackia amurensisy
Pyongyang, June 23 (KCNA) -- There are many rare, valuable trees in the DPRK. One of them is maackia amurensis.
It belongs to the leguminous family and is a deciduous, tall-growing tree. A fully-grown tree is 15 to 20 metres in height and is 60 cm in diameter. Its feather-shaped compound leaf consists of 7 to 11 leaflets. It bears its leaves towards the last ten days of April and opens its flowers between early August and mid-August. Its flowers are white and butterfly-shaped. It has ten stamens and nine of them stick to each other at bottom.
Its pod is oval and flat and five cm in length. It ripens in mid-October.
It is propagated by seeds and cut roots.
It grows well in wet places. Demand for this tree is growing for its medicinal value and wood.
Its vegetable matter contains alkaloids, titicin and lupanine. Its seed contains one-percent titicin and lupanine and its skin includes macanin and 10-15 percent tannin. Its leaves contain vitamin c and flavonoid. Titicin, like lobeline, directly excites carotid artery and the respiratory center. It is also anti-cancer and anti-ulcer.
Its skin, wood and leaves are used to cure chronic osteomyelitis and cancer and kill pain. Titicin injection is used for operations, when losing one's breath for trauma and when the circulation of the blood is stopped. Its inner skin helps a wound heal quickly. Its skin is used as a dyestuff.
The tree also offers honey. Its woody tissue is hard and has beautiful patterns. Its wood is widely used for quality furniture.
The DPRK propagates and protects the tree as a precious national resource.
Agreement signed
Pyongyang, June 23 (KCNA) -- The National Economic Cooperation Federation and the South Korean Hyundai Business Group signed on June 22 in Pyongyang an agreement on cooperation in economic fields, including tourism at Mt. Kumgang.
Present at the signing on our side were chairman Jong Un Op of the federation and officials concerned and on the opposite side were honorary chairman Jong Ju Yong of the group and his party.
