Kim Jong Il's work studied in over 50 countries

Pyongyang, July 16 (KCNA) -- Two years have passed since the publication of General Secretary Kim Jong Il's famous work "the Juche Philosophy is an Original Revolutionary Philosophy." The full text or gist of the work has been reported by more than 70 mass media of over 40 countries during the period. And the work has been disseminated and studied by Juche idea study groups and other public organisations in more than 50 countries in various forms and ways. It was published on July 26, Juche 85 (1996). It is clarified in the work that with the establishment of the Juche outlook on social history, the Juche view of history, on the basis of the man-centred philosophical principle, the Juche philosophy has overcome the limitations of the preceding socio-historical outlook and brought a radical change in the socio-historical view and standpoint. A seminar on the work was held in Moscow with the attendance of political, public and academic figures and men of the press and similar seminars by the Mongolia-Korea Friendship Association, the Bulgarian Group for the Study of the Juche Idea and the Peruvian National Association for the Study of Kim Jong Ilism. It was stressed at the seminars that the work indicates the most principled and fundamental guidelines that parties and governments of all countries as well as Korea should maintain.

CPRF denounces S. Korean rulers for anti-north campaign

Pyongyang, July 16 (KCNA) -- The spokesman for the committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland (CPRF) released a statement on Wednesday accusing the South Korean rulers of escalating the anti-north campaign. The statement said in part: They, in a bid to harass the north, have infiltrated spies into the north in diverse ways and through sea and borders and persistently tried to destroy major establishments. Even abroad, South Korean agents bribed, abducted or terrorized north Koreans. Some time ago, a councillor of the South Korean embassy in Moscow was deported from Russia for espionage activities. The fact is well illustrative of how active South Korean agents are abroad for espionage on the north. The South Korean puppets have also poured a colossal amount of money into arms buildup for war preparations against the north while continuing the anti-north smear campaign through radio and information activities abroad. Nevertheless, they are now maliciously slandering the north by inventing a "case" and charging the north with "intrusion" and "disturbance" in the hope of camouflaging their anti-north campaign. The anti-north campaign has become all the more frantic since Kang In Dok, an ultra-rightist, took the post of "Minister of National Unification" which is a variant of the "Agency for National Security Planning." The South Korean puppets must give up the foolish attempt to get something from disturbing the north, promptly stop infiltration of spies into the north, sabotages and subversive activities and dissolve the "ANSP," the general headquarters of anti-north plots. They must also dismiss Kang In Dok from his post at once. If they fail to take such practical steps, improvement of inter-Korean relations and any sort of dialogue can hardly be expected. If they continue seeking confrontation with the north and infiltrating spies into the north in defiance of our warnings, they should shoulder all the responsibility for the ensuing consequences.

Rodong Sinmun flails suppressive campaign in S. Korea

Pyongyang, July 16 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today comes out with a commentary lashing out at the South Korean fascist clique's brutal suppression of workers for vital rights and democracy. On July 13, the puppets called a "meeting of ministers concerned" allegedly to take "measures for labour-management relations" and blared that they would prosecute all strikers and ferret out and arrest prime movers, branding workers' strike "illegal and violent." These outrageous utterances show once again the fascist and treacherous nature of the present puppet regime styling itself "government for the people," the analyst says, and continues: The South Korean puppets are ruthlessly cracking down upon the struggle of workers to enjoy a life worthy of independent men, branding it as "illegal and violent." This misdeed is indeed an illegal and violent act. What they seek in this brutal supression is to tightly bind workers to the fascist military order, block them from taking part in struggles and, furthermore, emerge from the ruling crisis and ensure the security of their regime. This fully reveals that the South Korean regime is not a "government for the people" but a group of murderers against workers and a den of fascist gangsters. The frantic suppression of workers will not open any way out for the traitors. They had better look straight at the reality and stop the reckless crackdown upon the just struggle of workers at once.

Workers' struggle continues in S. Korea

Pyongyang, July 16 (KCNA) -- The South Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) announced on July 14 that they would stage a general strike for limited hours and an indefinite powerful struggle in protest against the coercive "structural reforms," a Seoul-based radio reported. The organisation urged the puppet government to stop the "structural reforms" and severely punish employers for their illegal deeds including lay-off. The KCTU repeatedly declared that if their demands were not met, they would launch a powerful struggle including phased general strikes. On the same day, some 3,000 members of the public sector trade unions under the KCTU including the trade unions of "Korea communications" and regional medical insurance's inc. and 200 unionists of the Hyun Dai Heavy Machine Industries held an all-night sit-in in Seoul. The trade union of the Han Jin Heavy Industries affiliated with the Pusan regional headquarters of the Democratic Federation of Metal Industrial Trade Unions and the tradeuUnion of the Daewoo Business Group held a protest rally and starting ceremony of strikes simultaneously against the "structural reforms" by the puppet authorities. And bus drivers trade unions in Masan, Changwon and Jinhae also went on strikes. The trade union of the Dae Woo Business Group organised a strike involving many workers of four factories including some 18,000 unionists of the Dae Woo Motor Company. The Pusan regional headquarters held a rally of striking workers and declared that they would fight it out against the anti-social policies of the puppet authorities. Meanwhile, the South Korean Federation of Buddhist Movement released a statement in protest against the fascist police's bloody suppression of unionists and denounced the inroads of policemen into the Jogye Temple.

On-site guidance for radical changes

Pyongyang, July 16 (KCNA) -- The forced march for the final victory is successfully proceeding in Korea. This year General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave on-the-spot guidance to Jagang Province, the Songjin Steel Complex and other sectors of the national economy to clearly indicate the orientation and way of overcoming difficulties in the economic construction and making a new great advance. His energetic on-site guidance encourages the working people of Korea to make a new advance in socialist construction. He has taken a long journey of 3,700-odd-day- on-site guidance equivalent to more than 10 years over the past 30 odd years since he began to work at the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, so as to have miracles and innovations wrought in different domains of the national economy. In March 1975 he unfolded a grand blueprint to bring a new turn in the construction of the capital and led the construction of Rakwon Street. As a result, a street lined on each side by modern, high-rise houses for 3,000 households equipped with complete sets of high-quality furniture and goods for cultural life was built in a short period of six months. In this way Changgwang, Munsu, Kwangbok and Thongil streets took shape. He visited the Ryongsong Associated Machinery Bureau in May 1984 and said that if a cold roller, key to meeting the ever growing need for iron and steel, is to be produced, a 10,000-ton press should be made. The workers under the bureau, in hearty response to his intention, succeeded in manufacturing a 10,000-ton press by their efforts in a little over one year in the spirit they displayed in making the 3,000-ton, 6,000-ton presses before. The Anbyon Youth Power Station, symbol of the miracles in the 1990s, is the creation of his on-site guidance on more than 100 occasions. People's Army soldiers, holding high the slogan "When the party is determined, we can do anything " completed the vast construction project including waterway tunneling and damming, only in a few years. The West Sea bBrrage across the 8-km rough sea, long-distance belt conveyor lines at the Unryul Mine and the Komdok Mining Complex and oxygen separators of 6,000 cubic metres and 18,000 cubic metres are the fruition of his ceaseless on-site guidance.

S. Korean authorities urged to allow participation of patriotic organizations in festival

Pyongyang, July 16 (KCNA) -- Spokesmen for the central committees of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea, the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea and the Korean Democratic Women's Union denounced the South Korean authorities for obstructing the participation of the south Headquarters of Pomminryon (National Alliance for the Country's Reunification) and Hanchongryon (South Korean Federation of University Student Councils) in a pro-reunification festival and banning their pro-reunification activities. In statements released on Wednesday, they said that not allowing the two organizations, which have sponsored August 15 grand pro-reunification festival every year, to participate in this year's is an intolerable mockery of and insult to the entire nation's desire for reunification. They demanded that the South Korean authorities promptly stop poking their noses into the non-governmental festival, unconditionally ensure the participation of the two organizations in the festival, abolish the "National Security Law," dissolve the "Agency for National Security Planning" and create an atmosphere of the festival. They also urged them to immediately dismiss Kang In Dok, a thorough-paced traitor and separatist, from the post of "Minister of National Unification."

Scientific symposium on Palhae

Pyongyang, July 16 (KCNA) -- A scientific symposium on the State of Palhae (698-926) was held in Pyongyang on July 14 and 15 under the sponsorship of the history society of the DPRK on the occasion of the 1,300th anniversary of the state. Papers presented to the symposium proved that Palhae was a strong state in the east in the middle ages that inherited Koguryo (277 B.C.-668), a feudal state of Korea in the preceding period. Palhae developed all political, economic, cultural and military sectors of Koguryo on a new basis, which were carried forward by Koryo (918-1392), the first unified state. Palhae held its full-fledged position in the development of the Korean history in the middle ages and decorated its period as well as that of late Silla. The papers verified that the main forces who played a positive role in the founding and development of the state of Palhae were Koguryo people who created a developed feudal culture.

U.S., S. Korea must apologize

Panmunjom, July 16 (KCNA) -- The third general-level officers' meeting was held between the Korean People's Army and the International Allied Forces at Panmunjom today. At the meeting, Lt. Gen. Ri Chan Bok, senior delegate of the Korean People's Army, noted with detailed evidences that a submarine of the north side was wrecked in open seas due to engine trouble during a routine training on June 22. The South Korean side announced on that same day that the submarine seemed to have been wrecked due to an accident in open seas twelve miles offshore, the senior delegate said. The South Korean side, far from taking measures to rescue the wrecked submarine under international law, mobilized warships and aircraft in indiscriminate attack, so that the submarine overturned. They broke the aerial of the submarine and pulled it for a long time before it sank and the crewmen had no alternative but to kill themselves, unable to transmit SOS. Ri Chan Bok strongly called the South Korean side to account for that. He criticized the United States and South Korea for trying to brand the wrecked submarine as "intruder" and conducting another anti-DPRK smear campaign with a dead body which they say they newly discovered on the sea off Tonghae,South Korean Kangwon Province, on July 12 and which they describe as an "armed spy who intruded into South Korea." Lt. Gen. Ri strongly demanded the U.S. and South Korea of apologizing for the suicide of the crewmen and send back the submarine at an early date.
