Int'l solidarity with Korean people's struggle

Speakers at the meeting said that under the wise guidance of the great iron-willed brilliant commander Kim Il Sung, the Korean people and People's Army decisively beat back the armed invasion of the U.S. imperialists and their authorities and won the victory in the three-year-long war by displaying mass heroism. The victory was attributed to the iron will, rare strategy and tactics and outstanding war method of President Kim Il Sung, they stressed, and went on: Under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il the Korean people and People's Army are firmly defending and Strengthening socialism and the struggle of the Korean people is a model for all. They extended warm congratulations to General Secretary Kim Jong Il upon his election as a deputy to the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK. A letter to him was adopted at the meeting. A meeting was held in Valletta, Malta, on July 24 on the occasion of the month of international solidarity with the Korean people.

Struggle for "speaker election" in S. Korea

Pyongyang, August 2 (KCNA) -- The ruling and opposition parties in South Korea are fiercely competing to win the seat of "parliamentary speaker," a Seoul-based radio reported. The ruling "National Congress for New Politics" (NCNP) plans to seat its "lawmaker" in that post by organising each of its "lawmakers" to win over the vote of one of the opposition "grand national party lawmakers." Meanwhile, the ruling "United Liberal Democrats" (ULD) strongly opposes the candidate of the NCNP. Taking advantage of this internal feud between the ruling parties, the "Grand National Party" (GNP) wages underhand operations to win over the votes of the ULD. Within the GNP, however, factional strife is surfacing as regards the nomination of the candidate. Thus, political dogfight and skullduggery are getting fiercer between the ruling and opposition parties and within each of these parties, concerning the "election of parliamentary speaker."

Hanchongryon confirmed as "enemy-benefiting" in S. Korea

Pyongyang, August 2 (KCNA) -- The South Korean authorities on July 30 confirmed Hanchongryon (South Korea's Federation of University Student Councils) as "enemy- benefiting organisation" by invoking the notorious "National Security Law," a Seoul-based radio reported. The fascist regime held a hearing of final appeal for Kang Wi Won, Chairman of the Fifth-Term Hanchongryon, at the supreme court and sentenced him to five years' imprisonment and four years' suspension of qualification. The regime branded Hanchongryon as an "anti-state organisation" whose purpose it is to "praise, encourage and sympathize with" the north's lines and activities. This is an open challenge to the pro-reunification movement and a deliberate act to hinder the August 15 grand pro-reunification festival at Panmunjom.

Rodong Sinmun on militant banner for party building

Pyongyang, August 2 (KCNA) -- 24 years have passed since General Secretary Kim Jong Il published a historic work on fundamentally improving party work and pushing ahead with the modeling of the whole society on the Juche Idea. In this connection, Rodong Sinmun today says in an article: In the work published on August 2, Juche 63 (1974), Kim Jong Il advanced an original policy of party building to model the whole party on the Juche Idea and indicated detailed tasks and ways to put it into practice. Profoundly expounded in the work are principled matters related to party building and activities --more thoroughly establishing the monolithic ideological system in the whole party, consolidating the party and revolutionary ranks politically and ideologically, intensifying party guidance over socialist economic construction and improving party's system and method of work. The work clarified the revolutionary character of the Workers' Party of Korea in keeping with the requirements of the Korean revolution which has entered a new stage of imbuing the whole society with the Juche idea and illumined the correctest way to markedly increase its militancy and leadership ability. Indeed, the work is a militant banner which must be constantly maintained in party building. The undying exploit of Kim Jong Il in modeling the whole party on the Juche Idea is that he has strengthened the WPK into the great Kim Il Sung's party and into a promising one which solved the issue of inheritance and that he built up the party and the revolutionary ranks into invincible political forces. It is thanks to Kim Jong Il that the WPK has been strengthened and developed into a powerful weapon of the revolution and construction to establish political and policy guidance over socialist economic construction and into a veteran and tested party which is governed by Kim Il Sung's work method.

Naked face

Pyongyang, August 2 (KCNA) -- Minju Joson today comments on the South Korean the authorities'outrage against Kang Wi Won, chairman of the 5th-term Hanchongryon (South Korea's Federation of University Student Councils). In a "decision" at the hearing of final appeal, the authorities sentenced him to five years' imprisonment and four years' suspension of qualification, alleging that he had conducted "enemy-benefiting activities" as chairman of Hanchongryon which he knew was "enemy-benefiting organisation" aimed at praising, encouraging and sympathizing with the lines and activities of the north. The news analyst of the paper says: The authorities'fascist action is by no means reasonable. Hanchongryon makes its activities in accordance with the will of South Korean students, not on the orders or instigation of the north. In the "decision" the puppets officially branded the DPRK as an "anti-state organisation." this is an open challenge to the DPRK as well as the entire nation. the authorities insulted Hanchongryon and got on the nerves of the north seriously with the approach of the August 15 grand pro-reunification festival. This shows they are making desperate effort to obstruct the festival at any cost.
