Policy of strength can never be almighty =KCNA commentary=

Pyongyang, August 25 (KCNA) -- Blue Ridge, flagship of the U.S. 7th Fleet, entered Pusan Port of South Korea on August 22 to join in the Ulji Focus Lens joint military exercises. Its portcall, which came at the time when the danger of war is growing more and more on the Korean peninsula, further eggs the South Korean authorities on to war. This move proves that "dialogue" and "negotiation" the United States talked about so often recently are nothing but a hypocrisy and that it is still resorting to the "policy of strength" to stifle the DPRK by force of arms. The United States has already sent vast forces from overseas to South Korea. And it has deployed huge task forces including nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and nuclear-propelled submarines in the seas near the Korean peninsula. Then, are these needed for "dialogue" and "negotiation"? The United States should make its position clear and behave in a farsighted way. We are ready for both dialogue and war and will answer dialogue with dialogue and war with war, as the U.S. asks. Today's Koreans are different from what they were in the past time when the U.S. forced gunboat diplomacy with its ship general sherman. The continued dispatchment of the U.S. warships to South Korea will only invite greater indignation of our people and increase our revolutionary armed forces' striking capacity. Statesmen of the United States should know that "policy of strength" is not almighty and it will bring immeasurable disasters to the U.S. We are keeping a sharp eye on the U.S. attitude.

Damage in plain areas of Korea

Pyongyang, August 25 (KCNA) -- Abnormal climatic phenomena severely affected plain areas of the DPRK. As a result, it is foreseen that grain output will drastically decrease in these areas. Thousands of dwelling houses and public buildings were submerged and roads, bridges and railways were seriously damaged. Many areas, including South Hwanghae Province, Kaesong, North and South Phyongan provinces and Nampho, were hit hard by floods and rain-storms. Particularly, rural communities in South Hwanghae Province, granaries of Korea, seriously suffered from rain-storms. The province had five torrential rains in the period from mid-July to date, which submerged tens of thousands of hectares of farmland. The Pakchon plain of North Phyongan Province was inundated by heavy rains which fell on August 23 and 24. Ryongchon, Phihyon, Unjon, Cholsan and other counties of the province also suffered much damage from torrential rains and rainstorms. Downpours fell in Kaesong from August 4 to 10. As a result, it is foreseen that grain harvests in Kaephung and Phanmun counties and other areas of Kaesong will decrease by above 60 percent. Rural communities of South Phyongan Province and Nampho were also severely affected by abnormal climatic phenomena. The national and local flood rehabilitation committees are taking emergency steps to clear away damage caused by abnormal weather phenomena.
