The statement noted that the "Grand Festival for National Reconciliation, Unity and Reunification", which was held amid the ever growing desire of the entire fellow countrymen for national reunification, was a festival which would be recorded as a brilliant chapter in the Korean nation's history of the reunification movement.
However, the South Korean authorities employed all means to obstruct the festival from the initial stage, it said.
The statement strongly urged them to immediately stop the repression of patriotic-minded students and religionists, as unanimously demanded by the entire fellow countrymen.

S. Korean authorities hit for brutal suppression
Pyongyang, August 30 (KCNA) -- The preparatory committee for the "Grand Festival for National Reconciliation, Unity and Reunification" released a statement on August 29 denouncing the South Korean authorities for their recent brutal suppression of the patriotic champions of reunification and students who had participated in the August 15 grand pro-reunification festival.
The statement says the recent festival attended by delegates from 68 political parties and organizations--two from the south, 38 from abroad and 28 from the north is a brilliant victory of the policy of great national unity, policy of reunification, over the policy of confrontation and division.
Having failed to destroy the festival, the South Korean authorities arrested Father Mun Kyu Hyon on a charge of violating the "National Security Law" in the wake of his visit to Pyongyang and participation in the festival. They are hell-bent on unprecedented-in-scope suppression of pro-reunification, patriotic forces, including the students under the influence of the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon), the statement says, and continues:
History and the nation will certainly make the South Korean authorities pay dearly for their crimes such as the brutal suppression of patriotic champions of reunification and deal a heavy blow at the enemies of reunification, the traitors to the nation.
The more the South Korean authorities are engaged in suppression of pro-reunification, patriotic forces, the more crimes they will commit against the nation. They should be aware of this. They should abolish the anti-reunification "National Security Law" and dismantle the fascist plot-breeding "Agency for National Security Planning." they also should unconditionally and immediately release the unreasonably arrested officials of the south headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification and "Hanchongryon"-lining students.
S. Korean authorities hit for persecution of Father Mun Kyu Hyon
Pyongyang, August 30 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today bitterly denounces the South Korean authorities for arresting Father Mun Kyu Hyon of the South Korean Catholic Priests' Council for Justice on a charge of violating the "National Security Law" on August 27 for the mere reason that he took part in the August 15 grand pro-reunification festival during his visit to North Korea.
The news analyst says:
The arrest is an open challenge to all the Koreans who want national reconciliation, unity and reunification= it is retaliation against the pro-reunification, pro-democracy patriotic forces of South Korea.
It proves that "reconciliation," "cooperation" and "dialogue" on the lips of the South Korean authorities do not deserve even a passing note.
The South Korean authorities should stop suppressing the patriotic champions of reunification and immediately release Father Mun and all other pro-reunification patriotic figures and students.
Outstanding leader working hard to exalt President Kim Il Sung's exploits
Pyongyang, August 30 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today runs an article on the wise leadership of General Secretary Kim Jong Il, who is working hard to exalt generation after generation the exploits of the President Kim Il Sung in state building.
The article says:
The history of Kim Jong Il's revolutionary activities spanning more than 30 years is characterised by the fact that he has held the president in high esteem as the father of socialist Korea and worked hard to exalt the exploits of the President in state building, and the fact that Kim Jong Il, basing himself on the President's exploits, has built the country into a socialist bulwark of Juche.
The greatness of Kim Jong Il's leadership is fully demonstrated in the ongoing struggle to build Korea into a strong and prosperious state of Juche, the article says, and elaborates on his wise guidance.
The article goes on:
Kim Jong Il resolutely defends the President's idea and theories of state building and develops and enriches them forever.
To remould man, nature and society just as the President intended and did and thus turn the country into Kim Il Sung's Korea which is the full embodiment of the President's idea of state building is the fixed will of Kim Jong Il.
His idea and theories are, in essence, to build Korea into a strong and prosperous state of Juche where the Juche idea is fully applied and efflorescing.
Kim Jong Il also builds the country into a thriving invincible fortress of socialism in reliance upon the foundations laid by the President.
Under the wise guidance of Kim Jong Il great achievements have been gained in all aspects of Korea's socialist construction, including politics, the economy, culture and military affairs and the nation's defence capabilities increased remarkably.
Rodong Sinmun on "new labor policy"
Pyongyang, August 30 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today runs a commentary in this regard.
The commentary says the "new labor policy" is little different from the original labor policies and it is a deceptive trick designed to make a mockery of the angry workers.
The news analyst goes on:
The South Korean authorities are crying for setting up "labor-management cooperation system." their utterances are a preach for cooperation between classes to give the management more power to exploit and oppress the workers.
In exploiting society the interests of workers and employers are in contradiction. Accordingly, capitalists and workers are in confrontation with each other.
The loud-mouthed "building of new labor-management culture" is a rigmarole to appease and deceive the workers.
The South Korean authorities have hitherto cried for "a fair share of pains." in actuality, only the workers have been subjected to pains.
They have set up a vicious system to siphon the last drop of blood out of the workers, in conspiracy with employers of worst type and brutally suppressed the workers calling for wage hike and jobs. It is the height of impudence for them to talk about "new labor-management culture" and an unbearable insult to the workers.
It is clear to anyone that the "new labor policy" will only bring heavier sufferings to the workers.
It is obvious that the authorities brought forward the deceptive "new labor policy" in a bid to prop up the traitorous regime with a huge amount of money they received from the employers in reward for the encouragement to the exploitation of the workers.
