S. Korean authorities must not act imprudently

Pyongyang, September 1 (KCNA) -- The spokesman for the Korean Asia-Pacific Committee published a statement today as regards tours of Mt. Kumgang which are being stepped up within the framework of nongovernmental economic cooperation between the north and the south of Korea. Pointing out that organised tours of Mt. Kumgang by ship were agreed on by the north and the Hyundai business group in South Korea and are being stepped up as a link in chains of nongovernmental economic cooperation, the spokesman said: In connection with this, South Korean "Prime Minister" Kim Jong Pil alleged that annual tourist costs must be lowered below 100 million dollars and that the north must be pressurized not to use earnings from tourism for the purpose of the munitions industry. "Minister of National Unification" Kang In Dok insisted on holding talks between authorities in order to discuss personal safety of tourists. Worse still, he compelled the Hyundai business group to fix fees of each tourist below 300 dollars. The South Korean authorities have no face to poke their nose into the organised tours of Mt. Kumgang which have been stepped up by us and the Hyundai Group. Taking into account the ardent desire of South Korean people, we have pushed ahead with tours of Mt. Kumgang for the purpose of achieving national reconciliation and unity through this undertaking. However, the South Korean authorities have blocked all forms of economic cooperation between us and Hyundai Group. Whenever an opportunity presented itself, they cried that they would promote nongovernmental economic cooperation with the north on the principle of "separation of politics from economy." Just as tours of Mt. Kumgang are nongovernmental cooperation between the north and the south, there will be no problem if parties concerned reach an agreement. And the use of earnings and guarantee for personal safety of tourists in our side are matters belonging to us. The long and short of behaviors of the South Korean authorities is that they seek to frustrate the tours of Mt. Kumgang. In other words, their deeds are nothing but a declaration that they would obstruct even nongovernmental cooperation. We will follow the deeds of the South Korean rulers and make them pay dearly for all consequences.

NAM will as ever make triumphant progress

Pyongyang, September 1 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today runs an editorial article to observe the day of non-alignment. The situation urgently demands that the NAM still remain an independent political force of developing countries in the next century and that NAM grow stronger, it says and goes on: What is essential for strengthening and developing the movement is to defend its basic idea and principle as ever. The basic idea and principle--independence against imperialism, peace against war--are mental pillar on which humankind should rely in accomplishing the cause of independence not only in the present century but also in the next century. If the movement fails to defend the idea and principle at a time when forces outside it are trying to divide, disintegrate and neutralise it, it cannot discharge its mission and duty as befitting the representative of developing countries. Then it may play into the hands of imperialists and dominationists as well. The movement should strengthen its unity and solidarity in every way. Only then can it increase its potentials and carry out its tasks with credit. It should strengthen the unity based on solidarity and cooperation, as well as collective common action, with correct strategy and confidence in its strength so as to bring democracy to the United Nations and the international community and replace the present old international order with a new one. In the next century it should strengthen the unity based on independence on the principle of mutual respect, non-interference, equality and mutual benefit in order to keep the imperialists from dividing and alienating it and play the role as the driving force for the building of an independent new world. It also should push ahead with an active struggle against the imperialist's policy of strength, their arbitrariness and privilege, true to the idea and principle, and make strenuous efforts for establishment of a new international order based on justice, equality and fairness. Just is its cause.

50 years of victors

Pyongyang, September 1 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today devotes much space to a political essay on the greatest pride and honor of the Korean people, led by the great leaders Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea as a grand festival of victors. The main idea of the political essay is that the DPRK is the most glorious country with the two greatest leaders ever known in history of humankind and that in the last 50 years the DPRK has emerged victorious, led by the two great men. Kim Il Sung is the founder of the DPRK replete with the sun and star and Kim Jong Il is the symbol of all victory and glory, who is well known to the world, the political essay says. It says the two great men worked together for more than 30 years in the 50 year-long history of the DPRK. It lays particular stress on the exploits Kim Jong Il has performed in turning the DPRK into an ideological and military power. He, guided by the idea that ideology and army are very instrumental in building a strong and prosperous country, has turned the army and people into the strongest ones in the world, and without his wise guidance and distinguished services we would not have defended socialism and would not be able to celebrate the 50 years of victors, it says, and continues: Bright is the future of the DPRK. We are greeting the 50th founding anniversary of the DPRK as the grand festival of socialist victors, with Kim Jong Il as the head of the party, army and state. The world shall see that the 21st century is the century of Korea that will be turned into a powerful socialist country, that the 21st century is the century of socialism during which the ideal of humankind will be realised to the full along with the world-wide revival and prosperity of socialism and that the 21st century is the century of General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

The papers support the Libyan people's steadfast anti-imperialist independent stand. However, the Libyan people have firmly defended the dignity and sovereignty of the country and the nation, smashing the anti-Libya moves of the imperialists.
