S. Korean authorities' suppression denounced
Pyongyang, September 3 (KCNA) -- The north headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification (Pomminryon) made public a statement on September 2 accusing the South Korean authorities of brutally cracking down upon pro-reunification patriotic forces including the participants in the historic August 15 grand pro-reunification festival.
The statement said:
On August 27, the South Korean authorities detained Father Mun Kyu Hyon of the South Korean Catholic Priests' Council for Justice on the strength of the "National Security Law" for the mere reason that he took part in the pro-reunification festival while staying in Pyongyang.
Earlier, they arrested chairman Kang Hui Nam and members of the south headquarters of Pomminryon and members of the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) on charges of holding events of the August 15 pro-reunification festival, the 9th Pan-National Rally and the 8th Grand Pro-Reunification Festival of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification (Pomchonghakryon).
The north headquarters brands their misdeeds as an unpardonable challenge to the ardent desire of the fellow countrymen for national independence and reunification and an act frontally negating national reconciliation and unity.
In particular, it is all the more unpardonable that they incriminate the participation of Father Mun Kyu Hyon in the pro-reunification festival in the north although they announced they would "accept" the offer of the political parties and public organisations in the north for the festival.
If they are truly willing to work for reconciliation and cooperation and improve the relations between the north and the south instead of paying lip service to them, they must abolish the "National Security Law," dissolve the "Agency for National Security Planning" and immediately release all the arrested officials of the south headquarters of Pomminryon and Hanchongryon including chairman Kang Hui Nam and Father Mun Kyu Hyon.
Far-fetched charge
Pyongyang, September 3 (KCNA) -- The South Korean ruler has put Father Mun Kyu Hyon behind the bars and persecuted him in disregard of strong public protest and denunciation at home and abroad. In this regard Rodong Sinmun today comes out with a commentary.
The news analyst says:
Father Mun is a believer who has done good things for the country and the nation. He has no reason to be incriminated.
He visited the north with official "permission" by the South Korean authorities and participated in the August 15 grand pro-reunification festival in accordance with the ardent desire of the South Korean people for reunification.
In Pyongyang, he shared feelings of kinship with brothers in the north and made remarks to such an extent as to call for accelerating the country's reunification with the concerted efforts of the nation.
According to the logic, it is natural that the authorities themselves who uttered "reconciliation," "cooperation" and "unification" with the north should be incriminated.
By making the believer a victim of the "National Security Law" the South Korean chief executive revealed that his clamours for "reconciliation" and "cooperation" are all lies and he has not a bit of willingness for reunification.
Rodong Sinmun on south-south cooperation
Pyongyang, September 3 (KCNA) -- Non-aligned and other developing countries should expand and develop south-south cooperation in order to build an independent new society, exercise sovereignty in external relations and establish a new fair international economic order.
Rodong Sinmun today says this in an article titled "south-south cooperation is way for common development and prosperity."
The article further says:
The President Kim Il Sung performed undying exploits in the history of south-south cooperation. It is steadfast position and will of the Workers' Party of Korea to exalt his exploits.
There are conditions and possibilities, good experience, concrete action programs and decisions to expand and develop south-south cooperation,so all countries should activate south-south cooperation, regarding it as a vital requirement and common task.
Expansion and development of south-south cooperation depends on activities and role of non-aligned and other developing countries.
Each developing country should strive to develop south-south cooperation with consciousness and responsibility as a member of the driving force of this cooperation, and make an active contribution to solving various problems arising in it. It is necessary to extend the scope of work for south-south cooperation and pay deep attention to developing new fields. South-south cooperation should be conducted on the principle of equality and mutual benefit on the basis of maintaining independence. Only then, is it possible to develop all the economic relations, cooperation and interchange in mutual and common interests.

Korea's unique pattern symbolic of longevity
Pyongyang, September 3 (KCNA) -- Korea's unique pattern symbolic of longevity is popular with people.
This pattern depicts ten shapes of objects including the sun, mountain and crane.
It has a long history.
According to records, the pattern represents the Korean people's patriotic mettle and firm will and their desire for longevity.
The sun, mountain and water included in the pattern show the spirit of Korea, the land of morning calm, and the love of Korean people for their beautiful country.
In those days, artists and craftsmen engraved the pattern in daily necessities in different shapes.
This is proved by patterns decorated on three doors of a three-storied clothes chest, a relic of the last period of the Ri dynasty, which is preserved at the Korean Folklore Museum.
They were inlaid with mother-of-pearl delineating a pine tree, crane, deer, turtle and others which represent the desire of people for longevity.
Many relics decorated with the pattern are preserved in the museum.
Today the pattern is being further developed in keeping with the modern aesthetic sense thanks to the DPRK government's policy of preserving cultural relics of the nation.
