Rodong Sinmun and Kunroja call for maintaining independent national economic construction line

Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun, the organ of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, and Kunroja, the politico-theoretical magazine of the WPK Central Committee, published a joint article captioned "Let us adhere to the line of building an independent national economy." Rodong Sinmun today devotes the front page to the joint article. The article says: People are rejecting imperialist domination and subjugation and calling for economic independence in the face of the worsening economic crisis in Asia and other parts of the world. The realities are a patent proof of the validity of the WPK's line of building an independent national economy. The lengthy article consists of subtitles "Self-reliance is the only way for living," "Let us give full play to the advantages of independent national economy," "Let us thoroughly reject the imperialist move for 'integration' of the world economy" and "Final victory is in store for self-reliant people." The article goes on: Self-reliance is a way for activating the national economy, a path of genuine prosperity. If one wants the thriving national economy, he should thoroughly reject the idea of dependence on outside forces, an idea that he cannot live without foreign capital. The slander on our independent national economy does not deserve even a passing note. Ours is an independent economic structure equipped with all the economic sectors in good harmony and with its own strong heavy industry at the core. It is incomparably better than the export-oriented economic structure dependent on other countries. "Reform" and "opening" on the lips of the imperialists is a honeyed poison. Even though anyone calls us "conservatives," We will not abandon the principle, but will set ourselves against all the attempts to induce us into an "integrated" world. We are sure to win in the fierce confrontation between self-reliance and dependence on other countries. In the 21st century the world will certainly witness a prosperous socialist Korea, a strong country of Juche with independent economy.

The estimation of situation and all policy-related matters made clear by him in conversations, talks, lectures and speeches during the period created a great sensation among state leaders, prominent figures and people of relevant countries. Leaders and prominent politicians of many countries of the world highly praised as precious wealth of the national liberation movement and the international working-class movement "on socialist construction in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the South Korean revolution," a lecture given by the President at the "Ali Archam" Academy of Social Sciences of Indonesia in April 1965. During the stay in foreign countries the President met with many political and public figures and working people as well as state leaders and left a lot of anecdotes about a people's leader. Kim Jong Il's society is best

Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- So Man Sul, first vice-Chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan, made public an article titled "Kim Jong Il's society is best" here after participating in the celebrations of the 50th founding anniversary of the DPRK. The article says that the best society which men have long looked for is none other than Juche Korea which has appeared as an ideal land of mankind in the great Kim Il Sung-Kim Jong Il era. Kim Jong Il's society is the best and strongest one in the world, which is led by the greatest man, the article says, and goes on: It is the great leader Kim Il Sung who built Kim Jong Il's society. Korea could successfully build the state and is now demonstrating its honor as a strong and prosperous country because it has two great leaders. It is only Kim Jong Il's society where the popular masses are placed in the centre of philosophy and policy. And its philosophy and policy are for the people. It is Kim Jong Il's republic that is shining over the world as man-centred country in which people are god. Thanks to marshal Kim Jong Il's love, all the people in the homeland are optimistically working hard to build a strong and prosperous country in the 21st century with firm faith as the people of a satellite-possessing country, Though they are suffering hardships owing to the imperialists' blockade and continued natural disasters. Our fatherland is full of noble ideological and mental traits and has enormous material foundations. Kim Jong Il's society is the best one, the most dignified, strong, beautiful and optimistic one on the planet.

Release of Father Mun Kyu Hyon called for

Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- The South Korean people from all walks of life are strongly calling for the release of Father Mun Kyu Hyon. The "Korean Catholic Priests' Council for Justice" released a statement urging the "government" to immediately release Father Mun. His remarks made at the grand pro-reunification festival do not go beyond the purpose of promoting exchange between Catholic churches in the north and south of Korea, the statement said. The organisation held a general meeting to discuss concrete ways for his release. It is now fighting for his release. The North Jolla Provincial Council of Professors for Democracy in a statement charged that the arrest of Father Mun and Rev. Kang Hui Nam who have devotedly worked for national reunification makes the council feel doubtful about the will of the present "government" concerning national reunification. Honorary chairman Sin Chang Gyun of the south headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification, chairman Ri Cap Yong of the South Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, Pak Yong Gil, widow of Rev. Mun Ik Hwan and 200 other people held a rally to organise a joint measure committee for basic rights of the people and the release of prisoners of conscience. At the rally they bitterly condemned the present "government" for suppressing patriotic figures, and issued a declaration urging the "government" authorities to release all the prisoners of conscience, abolish the "National Security Law" and dismantle the "Agency for National Security Planning." The "Korean Christian Youth Association" also issued a statement calling for the release of Father Mun. A Buddhist committee for the promotion of national reconciliation vowed to push ahead with a powerful struggle for his release.

Let us adhere to line of building independent national economy =Joint article of Rodong Sinmun and Kunroja=

The joint article consists of subtitles "Self-reliance is the only way for living," "Let us give full play to the advantages of independent national economy," "Let us thoroughly reject imperialist move for 'integration' of the world economy" and "Final victory is in store for self-reliant people." Self-reliance is a genuine way for firmly defending the sovereignty of the country and nation and activating the national economy, the article says, and continues: All the people who love the country should never allow the slightest tendency to selling the dignity of the nation for personal comfort. The sovereignty of the nation should not be infringed upon in any case. Economic independence is necessary for the sovereignty of the nation. A colonial debtor nation like a debt-ridden servant is not in a position to say its own say, left to the tender mercy of other countries. The sovereignty of the nation is not a present from others. Nor does it fall from the heaven. We will dynamically move ahead along the road of self-reliance in order to exalt the dignity of the socialist country replete with independence. It is a foolish daydream to try to revive the economy by introducing foreign capital, not relying on one's own strength. If one wants the prosperity of the national economy, he should thoroughly reject the idea of dependence on outside forces, the idea that he cannot live without foreign capital. The Korean people will hold high the banner of self-reliance, come what may. The socialist independent national economy has proved its worth, the article says, and calls for bringing its superiority into full play. The imperialists and reactionaries are claiming that our economic difficulties of recent years are attributable to our economy itself, the article says, and continues: Their allegation is false propaganda to distort the truth and lead us to lose our faith. The slander on our independent national economy does not deserve even a passing note. We should make every possible effort to give full play to the advantages of the socialist independent national economy without the slightest vacillation. For all the members of society to make the most of the existing economic potentials with the unshakable will and determination to rely on their own economic foundations--this is the WPK's policy of self-reliance. Ours is an independent economic structure equipped with all the economic sectors in good harmony and with its own strong heavy industry at the core. It is incomparably better than the export-oriented economic structure dependent on other countries. We cannot allow any attempt to undermine our peculiar economic structure. We will in the future, too, adhere to the basic line of socialist economic construction the keynote of which is to give priority to the development of heavy industry and develop light industry and agriculture simultaneously, in order to steadily increase the potentials of our economic structure. We should not confine ourselves to the norms of the past, but do work efficiently to pull through the present economic difficulties of the country. The best way of activating our economy at an early date is to grasp the main link in the chain of immediate tasks and concentrate energies on it and revitalise the economy one sector after another as ants gnaw a piece of bone. The article stresses the need to decisively smash the imperialists' vicious moves for "integration" of world economy. It goes on: By "integration" of world economy the imperialists mean to "westernize" and "Americanize" the economy of all countries and place it under their domination. The viciousness and catastrophic consequence of their moves for "integration" of world economy have been brought into bolder relief by the financial crisis in different areas of Asia. We must clearly see through the vicious design of the imperialists and answer their moves for "globalization" of economy with the line of building an independent national economy. We must not forget the miserable plight of the countries and nations that harboured illusion about imperialism and we must always maintain the steadfast anti-imperialist stand. We must heighten vigilance against the imperialists'moves to induce us to "reform" and "opening to the outside world." "Reform" and "opening" on their lips are a honey-coated poison. Clear is our stand toward "reform" and "opening." we now have nothing to "reform" and "open". By "reform" and "opening" the imperialists mean to revive capitalism. The best way of blocking the wind of "reform" and "opening" of the imperialists is to defend the socialist principle in all sectors of economy. Even though anyone calls us "conservatives," we will never abandon the principle, but will set ourselves against all the attempts to induce us to join an "integrated" world. Self-reliance is a long and difficult way, but it has been proven that this is the only way of victory and glory. It is true that our socialist economy is still undergoing difficulties. We are not concealing it. However, the Workers' Party and people of Korea will vigorously rise up once again to drastically increase the might of our independent national economy and build a powerful state of Juche without fail. The correct politics of the WPK, the might of singlehearted unity of the Korean people, the high level of culture and technology, the inexhaustible potentials of our economy and rich natural resources--these are the foundations which make Korea boundlessly prosperous. The source of our economy is, first of all, political and ideological might and unity. The enemy cannot break our strength, the strength of unity, with any modern weapons and economic blockade. A decisive guarantee for winning the final victory in the struggle for socialist economic construction lies in ever-victorious politics of the WPK. General Secretary Kim Jong Il is the most distinguished statesman in our era and the outstanding genius of socialist construction. A new advancement is being made in our economic construction thanks to Kim Jong Il's mode of politics. There is no fortress we can not occupy under the leadership of the great party. Who laughs last is not imperialists who are making a bluff but the Korean people who are advancing along the road of independence and self-reliance. In the 21st century the world will certainly witness a prosperous socialist Korea, a strong country of Juche with independent economy.

KNPC calls for heightening vigilance against Japan's moves for military power

Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- The spokesman for the Korean National Peace Committee released a statement today denouncing the Japanese authorities for zealously slandering the DPRK over its successful launch of an artificial satellite "Kwangmyongsong No. 1." The spokesman said: Even today when it has been confirmed that the DPRK launched an artificial satellite for a peaceful purpose, the Japanese authorities and politicians are letting loose venomous outpourings against the DPRK, crying that it poses "military threats" to Japan. Their hysteric behaviour only reveals their own ignorance. It is clear what they seek in their anti-DPRK racket. The spokesman further said: Japan has launched 68 satellites since it orbited its first satellite in September 1975. Has Japan ever informed us of their launch of satellites and rockets? The world's peaceloving people are following with vigilance the moves of Japan which is pushing ahead with the militarization of the space. At this very juncture, Japanese politicians are hurling slanders at the DPRK. It is as clear as noonday that they are intentionally conducting to the anti-DPRK campaign in an attempt to step up Japan's militarisation. The Japanese authorities must stop the anti-DPRK racket at once, clearly knowing that the world's peaceloving people are following with sharp vigilance Japan's plan to become a military power and its space development, a country which unleashed the pacific war and plunged world people into war holocaust, rather than the launch of an artificial satellite in the DPRK. If Japan is truly interested in peace and security in northeast Asia and the rest of the world, it must give up its militaristic scheme at once and apologize and compensate for its history of unethical crimes in imposing immeasurable disasters and sufferings upon the Korean people and other Asian nations. The Korean National Peace Committee strongly denounces Japanese politicians for conducting an anti-DPRK racket over the launch of an artificial satellite in the DPRK and calls upon the world's peaceloving people to keep a watchful eye on the vicious moves of Japan to become a military power.
