Keiko Tsuwa, chairperson of the Japan Women's Council, and other representatives in a letter of request to the Japanese Prime Minister said that violence against Koreans in Japan, Korean schoolchildren in particular, was committed continuously owing to the anti-DPRK policy of the Japanese government. They deplored Japanese society which allows such base acts. They stated that the Japanese government should not try to blockade the DPRK with the "logic of strength" but normalize diplomatic relations with it and achieve peace and stability in Japan, the Korean peninsula and Asia with diplomatic efforts. They strongly demanded that the government resume talks for normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and the DPRK, put things right and take steps to prevent violence against Korean people in Japan including schoolchildren.

The meeting welcomed the release of Jong Min Ju and Ri Hye Jong who visited Pyongyang and participated in the August 15 Grand Festival for National Reunification in 1995. A joint declaration of youth and students of Tangun Nation was read out at the meeting by delegates of youth and students in the north, the south and overseas. Useless remarks

Pyongyang, October 4 (KCNA) -- Minju Joson today comments on the "Joint Statement" that came after "talks" of U.S., Japanese and South Korean diplomats. The "statement" described the DPRK's satellite launch as "missile launch" and declared they would take "joint action" against it. The news analyst says: It is self-evident that our artificial earth satellite recognised by the world cannot pose "threat" to anyone. Lurking behind their fuss is a sinister intention. They aim to justify their anti-DPRK campaign and perfect the "theatre defence missile system" of the U.S. and Japan. We make it clear once more that we will launch another artificial satellite when we think it necessary, no matter what anyone may say. This is our inviolable sovereign right.

National Foundation Day marked

Pyongyang, October 4 (KCNA) -- Events were sponsored by the Council for the Reunification of the Tangun Nation at the Mausoleum of King Tangun in Pyongyang on Saturday to mark the National Foundation Day. It was attended by chairperson of the council Ryu Mi Yong and other officials of political parties, public organisations and religious bodies, young people and students in the north= delegates Kim Tae Won and Hwang Son from Hanchongryon (South Korean Federation of University Student Councils) that represents the south headquarters of Pomchonghakryon (National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification)= and overseas Koreans. In her speech, Ryu Mi Yong attributed the memorial events for King Tangun, the founder of the nation, held with confidence in the future to the wise leadership of the President Kim Il Sung and the General Secretary Kim Jong Il, who set right and exalted the history of the Korean nation. Kim Tae Won said the disinternment of the Mausoleum of King Tangun was of great importance in that Tangun, formerly a mythical person, scientifically proved to have been a real person so that the north and the south belong to the same nation with one ancestor. Jon Ho Chon, chairman of the Association of Korean Historians and Archeologists in Japan, said that by blocking South Korean religionists from visiting the north to jointly commemorate the National Foundation Day, the South Korean authorities revealed that they are heinous enemies of the nation. An indictment that lays bare the South Korean authorities' anti-national crime was published. The indictment accuses them of pursuing an anti-north policy, arresting and persecuting all those who call for great national unity and peaceful reunification or visit the north. The document calls on all organisations and people in South Korea and overseas to join in the efforts to frustrate the reckless acts of the South Korean authorities. Then, artistes gave a national music and dance performance, representatives of the north, south and overseas Koreans jointly planted a tree, Taekwon-do instructors gave a demonstration performance, a brass band Played music and other sports and cultural events took place.
