S. Korean students' struggle hailed
Pyongyang, October 20 (KCNA) -- The South Korean Alliance of University Newspaper Journalists recently conducted a poll with reference to the "National Security Law" among students of 48 universities throughout South Korea, and an overwhelming majority of them called for the abolition of the "National Security Law".
Rodong Sinmun in a commentary today says this reflects the South Korean people's protests against the rulers of the "People's government" who have retained the anti-national and anti-reunification fascist "National Security Law" on the pretext of "security."
The commentary goes on:
The "National Security Law" of South Korea is a rare fascist one opposed to the nation, democracy and reunification that antagonizes the fellow countrymen and totally rejects national unity and viciously tramples down the people's aspirations for independence, democracy and reunification.
As long as the "law" exists, national reconciliation, unity and reunification and the independence and democratization of South Korean society can not be realized any time.
This is why more than 80 percent of the South Korean students are opposed to the "law."
Facts prove that the repeal of the "National Security Law" is an irresistible requirement of the time and people.
The "law" so harmful to the country, the nation and reunification should be repealed without delay in conformity with the unanimous demand of the South Korean students and people.

Missile threats come from Japan
Pyongyang, October 20 (KCNA) -- One month and 20 days have passed since the DPRK launched an artificial satellite.
However, the Japanese authorities are still crying that the launch poses "threats" to the security of Japan because it was a "missile launch."
Commenting on this, a signed article of Rodong Sinmun today says:
The Japanese authorities' clamourings about "threats" from the DPRK are an expression of their undisguised hostile acts to stifle it.
It is none other than Japan that poses missile threats to others.
Japan has stepped up missile development from the 1960s.
In the 1980s, it began home production of missiles. Since then, many Japanese companies have taken part in the development and production of missiles. Various kinds of missiles are being mass-produced in Komaki, one of leading missile producers in Japan.
What is all the more dangerous is the fact that Japan is turning out means of nuclear delivery after completing the home production of missiles.
Having launched the first artificial satellite in the 1970s, it armed the "self-defence forces" with various kinds of rockets, guided missiles and other means of nuclear delivery in the mid-1970s.
On the other hand, the "self-defence forces" have intensified missile strike trainings, crying that modern warfare is an electronic war and a war of forestalling strikes through missiles.
It is not accidental that most of the 13 war exercises staged abroad in 1993 were missile-firing drills.
As seen above, missile threats are now coming from Japan.
Nevertheless, the Japanese authorities are trying to find faults with the DPRK, alleging that the DPRK's satellite launch is a "missile launch." this is like "the guilty party filing the suit first."
Japan cannot conceal its criminal and aggressive nature as the very state which is threatening others with missiles.

They reflected the conviction and will of the Korean people.
Art works which were recently created in Korea show the indomitable fighting spirit of the Korean people to defend socialism of Korea and their firm conviction of the justness of their cause.
Typical are fine art works "Let us uphold supreme commander comrade Kim Jong Il with loyalty ", "Nobody will defeat persons who risk their life" and "Will you live as independent men or as slaves? Let us defend the flag of revolution to the end."
They fully reflect the firm conviction of the Korean people to overcome all difficulties with an absolute worship for General Secretary Kim Jong Il.
Many poems and songs based on this theme were created among them are epics "I sing of my motherland" and "Motherland and people, advance forward," lyrics "Upholding our party's slogan" and "I am called" and words of songs "We will advance with conviction", "Give orders to our division", "Let us become satellites of the sun" and "Motherland, advance forward as indicated by torchlight of Songgang".
Day of Cuban Culture observed
Pyongyang, October 20 (KCNA) -- A Cuban musician Pedro Figueredo created a national anthem on October 20, 1867.
Cuba celebrates October 20 as the Day of Cuban Culture every year with colourful functions.
Rodong Sinmun in a signed article today observes the Day of Cuban Culture.
The article says:
On this occasion, Cuba is positively carrying on the work for consolidating the successes scored in building new society and construction of culture, educating all members of society in socialist patriotism and applying socialist principles in the revolution and construction.
Thanks to the correct policy of the party and the government on construction of national culture and their popular policies, socialist principles have been adhered to in education and health care, registering great successes.
The Cuban government has directed big efforts to education even under the harsh economic blockade of the United States.
As a result, Cuba has become the sole country with no illiterate among Latin American nations.
A big stride has been made also in health care.
A child death rate stands at 7.2 per 1,000 children in Cuba. The figure shows Cuba is one of those nations with lowest child death rate.
The life expectancy of the Cuban people is above 75 years.
Rodong Sinmun (Paper of Woker's Party of Korea) on separatist nature of "Minhwahyop"
Pyongyang, October 20 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun (Paper of Woker's Party of Korea) today comes out with a signed article on the separatist nature of the "People's Council for National Reconciliation and Cooperation" (Minhwahyop) which the South Korean authorities claim is the "unified organisation" responsible for non-governmental dialogue and contacts.
"Minhwahyop" is an organisation which acts under the baton of the South Korean authorities, a government-controlled venal organisation and an anti-north, anti-reunification group styling itself a non-governmental organisation, the paper says, and goes on:
It is mainly composed of extreme rightwing conservative groups which won ill name for taking the lead in anti-north confrontation rackets.
It is only too clear that "Minhwahyop" will serve the authorities as their stooges and servants.
Much effort is not needed to penetrate into the anti-north, anti-reunification nature of "Minhwahyop" because the south headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification (Pomminryon) and the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon), leading organisations of the reunification movement, are excluded from it.
The purpose and course of its formation show that it is an anti-north, anti-reunification tool.
Its purpose is to rope extreme rightwing anti-north groups and other organisations into "Minhwahyop" and block all free contacts and dialogue between independent non-governmental organisations.
The South Korean authorities rigged up "Minhwahyop" as its venal organisation in a sinister attempt to frustrate the "grand festival for national reconciliation, unity and reunification" which was held at Panmunjom around August 15 with the involvement of representatives of the political parties and organisations and people in the north, south and overseas and destroy the reunification movement of the fellow countrymen.
"Minhwahyop" is an organisation harmful to the reconciliation, unity and reunification of the nation.
Accordingly, political parties and organisations in the north will not regard the organisation as the other party to dialogue and negotiations.
The South Korean people from all walks of life, political parties and organisations should penetrate into the vicious design of the authorities to do harm to national reconciliation and unity and the separatist nature of "Minhwahyop", should heighten their vigilance against them and should frustrate them with concerted efforts.
The reunification movement cannot grow stronger and develop without the leading role of the south headquarters of Pomminryon and "Hanchongryon."
Any "reunification movement organisation" with the exclusion of the two organisations is a sham.
Insane anti-Chongryon campaign
Pyongyang, October 20 (KCNA) -- An unidentified Japanese infiltrated into the Chiba Prefecture headquarters of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) on October 15, killed with a lethal weapon a Chongryon official on guard and set fire to a building before running away with a portable safe.
Minju Joson today bitterly denounces the atrocity as a thrice-cursed terrorism against a patriotic-minded Korean national, who devotedly fought for the defence of the legitimate rights of Chongryon, and a crime designed to destroy and stifle Chongryon, a dignified organisation of overseas compatriots of the DPRK.
The news analyst says:
The incident proves that anti-Chongryon campaign now underway in Japan is getting more frantic with each passing day.
The recent murder and arson came synchronised with the anti-DPRK diatribe of the Japanese authorities crying for intensified "cooperation" with the South Korean authorities and national chauvinism among the Japanese in the wake of the DPRK's launch of artificial satellite.
The recent incident is a product of the Japanese authorities' policy hostile towards the DPRK and their unprecedented-in-scope anti-DPRK campaign. The Japanese authorities are to blame for the incident.
They should be aware of the seriousness of the incident, arrest the criminal without delay, mete out stern punishment to him and immediately take a step for a halt to the suppression of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan and for prevention of the recurrence of such hostility.
We consider the hostile acts against and suppression of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan on the part of the Japanese reactionaries a wanton violation of the dignity and sovereignty of our republic. We will closely watch the future moves of the Japanese authorities.
Use of title "Emperor" for Japanese king protested
Pyongyang, October 20 (KCNA) -- Some 70 South Korean people staged a demonstration at Kwanghwa Gate of Seoul on October 15 in protest to the present "government's" calling the Japanese king "Emperor," a Seoul-based radio said.
The demonstrators were representatives of nationalist organizations including the bereaved families association of national independence fighters and persons involved in the anti-Japanese struggle.
They urged the government to stop using the call "Emperor" symbolic of the imperialist aggression, and properly deal with such issues as Tok Islet, "comfort women for the army" and postwar settlement.
Strongly opposing the Japanese king's planned visit to South Korea, they warned that if he comes to Seoul, his safety can not be ensured in South Korea.
Popular "Family Football Team"
Pyongyang, October 20 (KCNA) -- An increasing number of people are concerned about sports in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. A "Family Football Team" has recently been formed, drawing attention of the people. The team is a family of Hong Jun Phyo in Sinchon town, Sinchon county, South Hwanghae Province.
It includes Hong's sons, grandsons, nephews of the age ranging from 16 to 55.
Some time ago it won in county football games with the teams from local institutions and enterprises.
It was formed at the initiative of Hong, who is the head of the family and a football fan.
The members of the team trained their physical strength and patience by making best use of the hours before leaving their houses every morning. They also learned how to treat a ball and had discussions on football tactics, when back home after day's work and on redletter days.
In the evenings they completed a peculiar tactical system of swift attack in which Hong's son and grandson have an important role to play.
Football games with some teams in the county were very instrumental in fostering their courage.
The team is popular.
Abolition of "National Security Law" called for
Pyongyang, October 20 (KCNA) -- Jong Tae Yon, one of those charged with the involvement in the alleged "Case of the Ryongnam Area Committee of the Anti-Imperialist Youth Union" ("Case of the Underground Revolutionary Leadership of the Ryongnam Area Committee of the National Democratic Front of South Korea"), in a murderous trial at the Pusan district criminal court on October 13 insisted on the innocence of himself and his colleagues and the abolition the "National Security Law," the South Korean paper Hangyore said on October 15.
Jong claimed that the "NSL" is just a tool of repression of ideology as well as a stumbling block lying in the way of social progress and the "case" is a plot.
In the five hour-long trial Kim Chang Hyon, "head" of the east district office, Ulsan, and seven other people convicted of the same charges rebutted the indictment of the prosecution, flatly denying the charges, the paper said.
As already known, the "government for the people" fabricated the "case" in an attempt to suppress the ever-increasing labor movement in South Korea and put down the desire of the people for reunification and arrested Kim Chang Hyon and 14 other people at the end of last July.
Yonthan Export Factory
Pyongyang, October 20 (KCNA) -- Yonthan county in North Hwanghae Province is neither a scenic spot nor an industrial area. It is far away from the provincial capital, without a railway link. But it is often visited by local and foreign businessmen.
It is because there is an export factory in this county, which produces table sets.
the factory, though small, is equipped with latest facilities. Grinding and plating are done by computers and robots.
It is less than a decade since the factory started operation. Its products, however, are very popular among foreign customers. They go to Germany, Turkey, Syria, Libya,Cambodia and Mongolia. More clients are seeking to do trade dealings with the factory.
Elaborately-shaped and lustrous stainless wares are highly resistant to acid and bases. A set includes 84 pieces of 16 kinds -- spoons, chopsticks, forks, knives, ladles, etc. -- available by 12 people. Handles of table utensils are gold-plated.
The producers are planning to silver-plate their products.
Manufacture or processing of individual utensils are offered according to the requests of customers.
