Present were Chinese ambassador Wan Yongxiang and embassy officials.
Participants observed a moment silence in memory of the martyrs.
They will get nothing from insane campaign against fellow countrymen =KCNA commentary =
Pyongyang, October 24 (KCNA) -- It is a deep-seated bad habit of the South Korean authorities to try to make a showdown with the fellow countrymen, with the backing of their master, the U.S.
It can clearly be seen in the remarks made by Minister Hong Sun Yong of Foreign Affairs and Trade of South Korea at a "meeting of foreign affairs and trade-related officials of political parties and the government" at the "National Assembly," or the parliament, on Oct.22.
Hong highlighted the need of cooperation with the U.S., saying that the "government keeps tabs on underground nuclear facilities in the Nyongbyon Area of the north."
His utterances came in response to the fiction of the "underground nuclear facilities" on the lips of the U.S. the anti-national rigmarole represents an ulterior intention of the South Korean authorities to isolate and stifle the north at any cost.
The U.S.-made fiction does not deserve even a passing note.
We have already said that the loud-mouthed "underground nuclear facilities" are civil underground structures.
The South Korean authorities, however, cried for "cooperation," raising a hue and cry over the "underground nuclear facilities." their misbehaviour clearly shows that they are employing every conceivable technique to do harm to the fellow countrymen.
The successive rulers of South Korea have been hell-bent on a insane campaign to do harm to and stifle the north.
When there was a "nuclear suspicion" against the north in the past, the South Korean authorities cried for a preemptive strike at "nuclear facilities," as well as "international cooperation system."
They, who have no clue about facts, are now running amuck to do harm to the fellow countrymen.
The self-styled "government for the people" of South Korea should act with discretion, mindful what the showdown with the fellow countrymen will bring them.
Day of UN observed
Pyongyang, October 24 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today dedicates an article to the day of the United Nations.
For the past 50-odd years after its foundation, the UN has made great efforts for the peace and security of the world and the social and economic development of the developing countries, thus registering successes, it says, and goes on:
A struggle to reform the UN into a democratic body is now under way in the UN arena.
What is important here is to augment the power of the UN General Assembly, reform the UN Security Council and to direct primary efforts to the social and economic development of the developing countries, especially to the settlement of their development issues.
World people expect the UN will be reformed in a democratic way and perform its noble mission and duties.
Unprecedented war gamble against north
Pyongyang, October 24 (KCNA) -- Minju Joson today carries a signed commentary castigating the U.S. and South Korean authorities for designing unprecedentedly large-scale joint military exercises.
The U.S. and South Korean authorities are planning to stage large-scale joint military exercises in the East Sea of Korea, "98 Foal Eagle" and "98 Hwarang" war maneuvers from October 24 to November 6, which they say involve U.S. troops stationed in South Korea, South Korean army and U.S. troops stationed in Japan.
It is unprecedented to launch three kinds of large war maneuvers at once in South Korea, which are a comprehensive war gamble against the north to be staged under the same operation map, the commentary says, and goes on:
We can never remain an onlooker to the U.S. imperialists and the South Korean authorities driving the situation of the Korean peninsula into a catastrophic phase.
Our people and people's army will never show a mercy to the aggressors.
The United States should immediately stop the war maneuvers aimed at us. If it ignites the fire of a war against the north, it will sustain a heavier blow than that in the 1950s.
The South Korean authorities should discontinue their treacherous act which will do harm to the fellow countrymen in league with outside forces.
The Japanese authorities should not partake in the anti-DPRK war moves of the U.S. imperialists and the South Korean authorities. It is made clear by the projected war maneuvers that Japan will be a supply base and a sortie base for another Korean War and a command base of the front.
If the U.S., Japan and South Korean warmaniacs launch a new war in Korea, they will be given thunderbolts of revenge.
New war provocation moves under fire
Pyongyang, October 24 (KCNA) -- An increasing number of working people of Korea are bitterly denouncing the U.S. imperialists and the South Korean authorities for planning to stage large-scale joint military maneuvers with the East Sea of Korea as the main theatre from October 24.
On the 22nd and 23rd of October, employees of the Pyongyang passenger and freight car corps and the joint venture workshop of the Korea Tobbaco Industry Company held rallies on the spot to vehemently denounce the maneuvers.
At the rallies the speakers described the maneuvers as a war rehearsal for a surprise attack on the north, a naked challenge to and a premeditated provocation against the north.
If the U.S. imperialists and the South Korean authorities dare unleash a war, all the workers of the north will annihilate the aggressors with rifles of revolution, they warned.
Powerful country of Juche, future of Korea
Pyongyang, October 24 (KCNA) -- Andria Velonandro Anselme, chairman of the Natiuonal Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea of Madagascar, who participated in celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the DPRK, delivered a report after his return and a lecture in Antananarivo on Oct. 10 and 14.
Present were officials of political parties, organizations and Juche idea study groups in Madagascar.
The chairman said the DPRK, shining with the august name of President Kim Il Sung, a great man of the century, is shining more brilliantly under the leadership of marshal Kim Jong Il.
He said he saw a parade which was held on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the DPRK and toured different parts of Korea.
He noted he found the powerful country of Juche, future of Korea, in the looks of Korea advancing under the leadership of General Secretary Kim Jong Il, not wavering in any adversity.
The proposal for founding the DCRK supported abroad
Pyongyang, October 24 (KCNA) -- A friendship meeting was held in Cuba and political parties and organizations of Guyana released a statement on the occasion of the month of support to the proposal for founding the Democratic Confederal Republic of Koryo.
At the meeting in Havana on Oct. 17, first vice-chairman of the Cuban Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification expressed the belief that the reunification of Korea will certainly be realized according to the proposal for founding the DCRK advanced by the President Kim Il Sung.
The Cuban people will support the struggle for Korea's reunification, he said.
Political parties and organizations of Guyana, in a statement on Oct. 13, held that the South Korean authorities should give up their anti-reunification assertion and accede to the DPRK proposal for confederacy at an early date.
Apprehensions about U.S. moves against DPRK expressed
Pyongyang, October 24 (KCNA) -- The national council of the All India Forward Bloc held in Delhi on October 10 and 11 discussed and adopted a "draft document of the national council on external and internal matters" presented by its General Secretary.
In the part on the Korean question, the document said that as the United States failed in its attempt to force the DPRK to allow inspections of its military sites by the International Atomic Energy Agency, it threatened the DPRK, thus producing serious consequences.
It noted that U.S. undisguised moves against the DPRK are arousing serious apprehensions because the U.S. has supplied missiles to South Korea.
Besides the supply of missiles, the U.S. has staged joint military exercises with South Korea, driving the north and south of Korea to the brink of war, it said.
It stressed that although the DPRK is suffering from an acute shortage of food caused by natural disasters, it has upheld the banner of socialism in accordance with the guiding lines of the Juche idea, firmly maintaining the 10-Point Programme of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation for Country's Reunification.
Papers call for disarmament
Pyongyang, October 24 (KCNA) -- Papers here today in articles dedicated to a week of disarmament say that the world people hope their desire to live in a peaceful world freed from aggression and war, destruction and murder will certainly be realized at an early date.
A signed article of Rodong Sinmun says:
At present, disarmament is an important way to ease tensions, remove the danger of war and ensure the peace and security of the world.
The world's peaceloving people should unite and powerfully wage a joint struggle against the arms race on the part of the imperialists. This is an important way of realizing disarmament.
They should fully disclose the criminal moves of the imperialists who are stepping up the development of nuclear weapons. They should also put collective pressure upon nuclear states to destroy their nuclear weapons and stop the development of new-type nuclear weapons.
The Korean peninsula has always been placed in a touch-and-go situation owing to large-scale war exercises frequented by the United States in and around South Korea.
This poses threats to the peace and security of northeast Asia and the rest of the world.
The United States must withdraw its troops, nuclear weapons and other war means from South Korea and surrounding areas without delay.
A signed article of Minju Joson says that what is important in realizing disarmament is to destroy weapons of mass destruction including nuclear weapons and get foreign military bases and troops withdrawn from other countries and regions.
Strong nation
Pyongyang, October 24 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in a political essay says that the Korean nation is strong and that this is its highest title.
The essay says:
The Korean people have undergone inexpressible hardships owing to years of natural disasters. However, they have overcome all difficulties with strong will.
Although a country has a small territory and population, it can successfully shape destinies of the people, squarely standing face to face with any "superpower," if it has strong will.
A strong-willed nation can prosper whereas a weak-willed nation will become a slave.
This is a very valuable review of history made by the DPRK for the hopeful 21st century, looking back upon the long history of humanity and the 20th century full of ups and downs.
The Korean people have covered the process of history with strong will. So, fortitude represents the distinguished advantage of Kim Il Sung's nation guided by General Secretary Kim Jong Il and its invincible might.
The fortitude of Kim Il Sung's nation is precisely the Juche character. In other words, this means the determination and will to shape its own destiny by its own efforts in any adversity with self-respect.
The spirit of devotedly defending the leader is the Juche-based invincible will of the Korean people.
Since the Korean people have the Juche-based will that if not guided by Kim Jong Il, the Korean nation cannot exist, they are devotedly defending him in the high-pitched spirit of human bombs.
Kim Jong Il, a brilliant commander of Mt. Paektu, is the great teacher and father of the Korean nation, who has grown it to be the strongest one in the world.
So,the Korean people proudly say that his august name is the symbol of Kim Il Sung's strong nation and all victories.
The Korean nation has a strong faith and will, good qualifications and traits as it has perfectly taken after Kim Jong Il, the supreme incarnation of faith and will.
Socialist Korea of Kim Il Sung's nation with a strong Juche character will emerge victorious forever as it is guided by Kim Jong Il.

The zoo opened to the public with over 600 animals of some 130 species in April 1959. It has grown to be a zoo of world standard in terms of scale, content and form. It covers an area of more than one hundred hectares. More than 6,000 animals of some 640 species from Korea and abroad live in the zoo, nearly 4,000 animals of some 370 species from abroad.
Fishes, reptiles, birds and other species of animals live in some 50 museums and houses of special architectural order, divided according to natural classification and ecological features.
A feed producing base of the zoo covers an area of dozens of hectares. The kinds of feed at the zoo number over 60. More than ten tons of feed is given to the animals a day.
Hundreds of thousands of trees of various species and flower gardens of thousands of square metres are in the zoo precinct.
An institute of the zoo contributes to zoological development through the study of the basic theory of zoology, collection of wild animals and researches into their breeding, protection and proliferation of useful animals.
It supplies more than 1,000 stuffed specimen, skeletons and specimen in liquid to scientific and educational institutes every year.
Dozens of effective medicines are produced at the zoo.

Shops, soft-drink counters and facilities for amusement and games have been built for the convenience of the spectators.
The zoo plans to increase the variety of animals to over 1,000 in a few years to come.
Seriocomic rumpus over "parliamentary system of government"
Pyongyang, October 24 (KCNA) -- Senior vice-president Kim Ryong Hwan of the "United Liberal Democrats" (ULD), one of the South Korean ruling coalition parties, told a press conference on October 20 that it won't yield an inch as regards "constitutional revision aimed at building a parliamentary system of government," one of the commitments made by the "National Congress for New Politics," Seoul-based Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) said.
On the same day, "ULD" held a "meeting of the committee for the promotion of the parliamentary system of government" built within it, the first of its kind, and reviewed the Preparations for the "constitutional revision aimed at building the parliamentary system of government," according to a report of radio No.1 from Seoul.
Earlier, on October 16 Kim Jong Pil who is leading the "ULD" gave a special lecture at Dongeui University in Pusan in which he betrayed his greed for power by crying for the "constitutional revision."
As already known, the incumbent chief executive of South Korea agreed with Kim Jong Pil about the "constitutional revision" in a bid to "win" in the "Presidential Elections" in December last year.
But there are no signs that the chief executive of South Korea will remain true to the agreement.
The controversial "constitutional revision" implies an inevitable partition of the ruling coalition parties in South Korea.
U.S. citizen expelled from DPRK
Pyongyang, October 24 (KCNA) -- A U.S. citizen Kim Jin Gyong was expelled from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea by the relevant body on October 24, Juche 87 (1998).
The Korean Central News Agency made public a report in this regard.
The report says:
Kim Jin Gyong was given tasks by top officials and bosses of the "Agency for National Security Planning" of South Korea from February Juche 82 (1993). He visited our country on several occasions to spy on our internal affairs and inform his masters of them. He also tried to undermine the socialist system in North Korea and lead the people to habour illusions about South Korea.
Kim, a spy of the "ANSP" of South Korea, admitted his espionage activity.
His is a crime which seriously encroached upon the sovereignty of our republic. His crime deserves a legal punishment.
Our organ concerned decided, however, to leniently pardon him and expel him, both in the light of the DPRK-U.S. relations and in view of his being a U.S. citizen of Korean origin.
We will keep heightened vigilance against any sinister attempts to undermine our anthropocentric socialism.

At the beginning, it had three departments and 30 chairs. It has now developed into a medical education centre with 10 departments, 150 chairs and laboratories.
Marking its 50th anniversary, the university arranged a special exhibition to show the achievements gained in scientific research, education and medical treatment.
