Release of Hwang Son called for
Pyongyang, November 10 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland (CPRF) issued a statement on November 9 bitterly denouncing the South Korean ruling quarters for arresting and persecuting Hwang Son on charges of violating the anti-reunification fascist "National Security Law".
Hwang Son had visited Pyongyang in the capacity of a delegate of the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) that represents the south headquarters of the National Alliance of Youth and Students For the Country's Reunification (Pomchonghakryon).
The statement says Hanchongryon delegate Hwang Son visited North Korea recently and conducted just activities to inform the students and other people in the north of ardent patriotic desire of the South Korean students and other people for national reconciliation and reunification, learn a long history and culture of the Korean nation and promote national independence and great unity.
The arrest of Hwang, a praiseworthy daughter of the nation, on the strength of the "NSL" clearly shows that the "reconciliation" and "cooperation" on the lips of the South Korean authorities are a gross deception to mislead public opinion and conceal the true colors as the partitionists, it says, and continues:
The CPRF, considering the arrest and harsh persecution of Hwang Son unpardonable treacheries and cruel fascist brutality, vehemently denounces them in the name of the whole nation.
The South Korean authorities should not incriminate her with unreasonable charges, but set her free unconditionally and stop fascist suppression of Hanchongryon and other pro-reunification patriotic forces.
Japan-U.S. joint military manoeuvres in full swing =KCNA commentary=
Pyongyang, November 10 (KCNA) -- Frantic U.S.-Japan joint military manoeuvres have reportedly been staged allegedly to cope with the "event of contingency on the Korean peninsula."
The manoeuvres of the U.S. marine corps and the Japanese ground "self-defence force" began on November 5 as part of the "Japan-U.S. joint manoeuvres." on the same day, naval joint manoeuvres started, involving nine ships of the U.S. carrier flotilla and twenty warships of the Japanese maritime "self-defence force," 40,000 troops in all.
The war exercises which began in advance of the above-mentioned manoeuvres are being staged on the ground and in the sky. Joint manoeuvres of the U.S. forces and the Japanese "self-defence forces" are in full swing throughout the Japanese islands.
As a consequence, U.S. military bases in Japan and the training places of the "SDF" are clouded with powder-smoke, filled with deafening gun reports. Blockade of non-military roads and low-altitude flight of warplanes do damage to the livelihood of the residents, causing negative impact.
Publications of the U.S. forces described the frantic manoeuvres as a "large-scale war game on the ground, in the sea and the sky." a local assembly of Japan expressed deep concern at the "large-scale manoeuvres being staged under the simulated conditions of the event of contingency on the Korean peninsula," saying that the "manoeuvres seem to be staged throughout Japan."
The developments prove that the U.S. and Japan are carrying into practice the "guidelines for Japan-U.S. defence cooperation" that they revised for the purpose of provoking another Korean War and realising their wild ambition for domination over Asia and the rest of the world.
What is particularly dangerous is that the U.S.-Japan joint military manoeuvres began on the back of the Foal Eagle war exercises of the U.S. and South Korea, tightening the "tripartite military alliance" of the U.S., Japan and South Korea.
All this clearly shows that with a view to stifling the DPRK by force of arms the U.S., Japan and the South Korean authorities are expanding and strengthening the undisguised and reckless war exercises for aggression on the DPRK through the medium of the tightened military tie-up, while describing the DPRK's launch of artificial satellite as "missile threat" and using it for justifying massive arms buildup.
Letters of eternal value
Pyongyang, November 10 (KCNA) -- The immortal revolutionary paean "Song of General Kim Jong Il," a famous m
Masterpiece "Nostalgia" and "Illustrious Commander born of heaven Kim Jong Il" are engraved as letters of eternal value on the natural rocks of well-known Mt. Chilbo in Korea.
The letters represent the loyalty and filial piety of the Korean people who want to hand down to posterity the exploits General Secretary Kim Jong Il performed during his personal guidance on the mountain.
Mt. Chilbo is reminiscent of the glorious revolutionary activities of Kim Jong Il, who is working hard to provide the people with better conditions for their cultural life and entertainment.
Kim Jong Il went there in June Juche 85 (1996) and told how to turn the mountain into better cultural pleasure ground for the people.
During his long journey from inner Chilbo to outer Chilbo and sea Chilbo in November Juche 85, he told how to develop the mountain and took a concrete step concerning the building of hotels for visitors and public service facilities and preservation and management of the scenic spot.
Mt. Chilbo (659 metres above sea level) is on the east coast in the northern part of Korea. It has been called "Hambuk Kumgang" from ancient times.
The mountain covers an area of about 250 square kilometres.
It boasts of superb scenic beauty because Mt. Obong, Mansa Peak and other strangely-shaped peaks, Kumgang and Kuryong ponds and other ponds, waterfalls, natural caves, the peak of ten thousand forms and seascape along the coastline of about 40 kilometres are in good harmony.
It is furnished with all facilities for the convenience of tourists.

Lake Sohung
Pyongyang, November 10 (KCNA) -- Lake Sohung, an artificial lake, is in Sohung county, North Hwanghae Province, in the central part of Korea.
For lack of water, people in this county could not supply drinking water to the passengers before the country's liberation from Japanese colonial rule.
In the rainy season this area was often flooded. They had to call at their neighbouring houses on board large scooped wooden bowls.
They were tormented by water during the dry and rainy seasons.
To use water as much as they want was the century-old desire for the county people.
To satisfy their long-cherished desire, the state saw to it that the construction of a large reservoir was undertaken. As a result, Lake Sohung came into being in July Juche 50 (1961).
The lake supplies water to tens of thousands of hectares of farmland in seven cities and counties in North Hwanghae Province.
Water is used not only for irrigation but also for hydroelectric power generation and freshwater fish breeding.
The lake teems with carp, crucian carp and grass fish, and the surrounding mountains are densely covered with bristle-tooth oak, black walnut and other broad-leaved trees.
For its beautiful scenery the lake has become a recreation ground for people.
Standing harmoniously around the lake are children's camp, a health resort and rest homes. Visible on the surface of crystal-clear water are pleasure boats.
