Kim Jong Il inspects Kim Hyong Gwon Military Academy of Communications Men

Pyongyang, November 17 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, Chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK and Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army (KPA), inspected Kim Hyong Gwon Military Academy of Communications Men. Since its foundation by the President Kim Il Sung, the academy has trained a large number of communication commanding officers and thus greatly contributed to the strengthening of the revolutionary armed forces. It received the national flag order first class and the order of freedom and independence first class for producing four DPRK heroes and a large number of excellent communications commanding officers who were firmly prepared politically and ideologically and in military technology. After receiving a solute, he, conducted by the director of the academy, went round the monument to on-the-spot instructions of President Kim Il Sung and the room of education on revolutionary history. In order to train cadets into good commanding officers, he noted, it is important to intensify education through facts and visual aids, give them practical knowledge.

Anti-Chongryon rackets in Japan denounced in Guyana

Pyongyang, November 17 (KCNA) -- The leader of the Amerindian Action Movement of Guyana made public a statement on November 5 denouncing the Japanese authorities for engaging themselves in rackets against the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon). The statement said: Both from the historic point of view and in view of international law, the Japanese authorities have an obligation and responsibility to protect Chongryon and Korean nationals in Japan. This notwithstanding, the Japanese authorities are harshly suppressing and harassing them. This is a serious hostile act which infringes upon the sovereignty of the DPRK. The Japanese authorities and the right-wing reactionaries must put an immediate halt to the anti-DPRK, anti-Chongryon campaigns, apologize and compensate for the past crimes committed against the Korean people and take the road helpful toward the peace and security of Asia.

DPRK Foreign Ministry spokesman on Japan's military challenge

Pyongyang, November 17 (KCNA) -- The Japanese government officially decided to set up a "steering committee for information-gathering satellites." In this connection, the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the DPRK made public a statement on November 17, which said: The Japanese government made a final decision to introduce military satellites, which it calls "information-gathering satellites." This is one more dangerous military action intended to legalize the policy of turning Japan into a military power and perfect preparations for overseas aggression which Japan has so far stepped up, reading faces of neighbouring nations. The decision makes us clearly know why Japan has conducted unprecedented-in-scale anti-DPRK rackets and vociferated about "security" and "measures against the crisis", persistently branding the DPRK's launch of an artificial satellite as "missile launch," though the world recognized it. Although it was a vanquished country, Japan decided to introduce military satellites and is now zealously translating the decision into practice. Underlying its moves is its revengeful ambition to realise the fantastic design for "greater east Asia coprosperity sphere" which it failed to in the past war of aggression as well as the comeback to Korea. The present situation in which Japan's ambition for military expansion is getting all the more undisguised, urges Asian nations who hope for regional peace and security to join in the efforts to check and frustrate Japan's design for militarist reinvasion and its moves for military power. The Japanese authorities should ponder over miserable consequences their reckless attempts to reinvade Korea and turn Japan into a military power will bring to the future and destiny of Japan. They should look squarely at the trend of the times and stop running amuck.

Stop to use of anti-Korean expressions called for

Pyongyang, November 17 (KCNA) -- Koreans Human Rights Association in Japan on November 5 visited a Japanese federation for investigating real estate to lodge a strong protest with it against the misdeed of Yasugazu Kagawa, a former judge of the supreme court of Japan, said the November 12 issue of Joson Sinbo published in Japan. In an article contributed to a publication of the federation, Yasugazu Kagawa had branded the DPRK's launch of an artificial satellite as "missile launch" and "violent act" and repeatedly used expressions discriminating against the Korean nation. Chairman Jo Yong Bok and members of the association bitterly protested against the official organ of the public federation carrying sentences which slander the DPRK and discriminate against and insult the Korean nation and strongly urged it to take responsibility for this. They said that they could not repress their national indignation at the misbehaviour of the writer who is acting as an advisor of the federation. They demanded that the publication at issue be collected, an article of correction and apology be carried in the next issue and discriminatory expressions not be used any more.

People's rally held in S. Korea

Pyongyang, November 17 (KCNA) -- The Federation of Korea Trade Unions held a rally of workers, peasants and citizens in Seoul on November 15 urging a total reform, a Seoul-based radio reported. In a resolution, the ralliers urged the chief executive to enact a law on preventing irregularities and corruption and hold an economic hearing for those responsible for economic turmoil.

Provocative outburst against north

Pyongyang, November 17 (KCNA) -- A few days ago, the South Korean "Defence Minister," Chon Yong Thaek, called for "full preparedness for winter military action" and "full combat readiness" on the plea of the escalating tensions in the gulf area. Rodong Sinmun today describes his remarks as a revelation of a criminal intention to take the lead in carrying out the adventurous war strategy of his master. The news analyst says: His utterances came at a time when a dangerous situation in which a war may break out any time is being created in Korea as a result of the wildcat provocative military maneuvers of the bellicose elements at home and abroad. The unwanted move proves that the South Korean authorities seek to step up war preparations against the north and unleash a fratricidal war at any cost, presuming upon a possible U.S. military strike at Iraq. U.S. war exercises denounced

Pyongyang, November 17 (KCNA) -- Robert Williams, vice-chairman of the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Committee to support the reunification of Korea, released a statement on November 8 denouncing the war exercises of the United States. The United States, reversing its promise not to use arms nor make threats against the DPRK, staged war exercises in the south of the Korean peninsula with the mobilisation of huge aggression forces and military equipment, the statement said, stressing: This is an arrogant behaviour aimed at stifling the DPRK with arms. The statement continued: The people in Latin America and Caribbean region do not want the Korean peninsula to remain divided and a hotspot of the world but hope that Korea will be reunified independently and peacefully without any interference by outside forces. The Latin American and Caribbean Regional Committee to support the reunification of Korea strongly calls for putting an immediate end to the military exercises against the peace and reunification of the Korean peninsula and to the brutal crackdown upon democracy.

Fifth anniversary of Central Association of Koreans in Russia marked

Japan, sworn enemy of Korean people

Pyongyang, November 17 (KCNA) -- 93 years have passed since the Japanese imperialists fabricated the "Ulsa Five-Point Treaty" by force of arms on November 17, 1905. Rodong Sinmun today runs an article headlined "Japan is sworn enemy of Korean people" in this regard. The paper documents the fact that the Japanese imperialists opened the road of aggression on Korea through the "treaty" and committed aggressive, predatory and murderous crimes during the 40 odd year long colonial rule after their occupation of Korea. It says: The Japanese imperialists occupied Korea by force of arms and called out police and gendarmerie to put down the slightest sign of anti-Japanese patriotic spirit of the Korean people. They forcibly dissolved public, mass and all other organisations and deprived the Korean people of all their social rights, including those concerning the freedom of speech, the press and assembly. In two months after the anti-Japanese popular uprising took place on march 1, 1919, they murdered nearly 8,000 patriotic people, left more than 18,500 heavily injured and arrested over 47,000. In 1934 they threw behind bars more than 66,000 people for the mere reason that they offended against the "law on public peace." in 1938 they arrested, detained and punished over 165,300 innocent people. They worked upwards of six million young and middle-aged people like beasts of burden and killed them in cold blood. They also forced nearly 200,000 Korean women to be sex slaves for the "imperial army." The Koreans were forced to use Japanese as "mother tongue" instead of the Korean language, deprived of their surname and first name, a major index to national identity. In the first days of their occupation of Korea the Japanese imperialists made a monopoly of the fertile land, plundered the people of a large number of farm and live-stock products and established monopolistic domination over the economy, protecting and fostering the infiltration into Korea of Japanese capital in every way. The paper goes to expose the indelible crimes Japan committed against the Korean people after the war. It says: Japan, in conspiracy with the U.S. imperialists and the South Korean authorities, has sought the permanent division of Korea and run amuck to isolate and stifle the DPRK. In particular, it is nowadays mounting a campaign against the DPRK and the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) in the wake of the DPRK's launch of artificial satellite, claiming that the launch is one of "ballistic missile." The Japanese reactionaries are raising a hue and cry over "missile threat." they seek in this to find a pretext to stage a comeback to Korea. Pyongyang, November 17 (KCNA) -- The 13th National Young People's Solo Contest sponsored by the Central Committee of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League is under way. All schoolchildren and other young people are eligible to take part in it. The elimination contest is being conducted in every province. The contest is divided into the sectors of primary and senior middle schools, colleges, universities and young people's organizations. The final contest will take place in Pyongyang in December to mark the birthday of the anti-Japanese woman fighter Kim Jong Suk.

Pyongyang, November 17 (KCNA) -- President Kim Yong Nam of the presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea sent a message of greetings to Syrian President Hafez Al Assad on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the corrective movement in Syria. The message said that over the past 28 years since the movement the Syrian people have made a great progress in their struggle to defend the independence and dignity of the nation and build a new Syria, independent and prosperous, under the leadership of the Arab Socialist Baath Party. The message wished the President and people of Syria greater successes in their work for independent development of the country and a fair solution of the Mideast problem. It expressed conviction that traditional relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries will favorably develop in the future, too.
