Leaflets praising Kim Jong Il scattered in S. Korea
Pyongyang, December 17 (KCNA) -- Copies of literature praising General Secretary Kim Jong Il were scattered in the courtyard of Taejon Prison in Taejon city and its surrounding places on November 24, Seoul-based radio Voice of National Salvation quoted the South Chungchong Provincial Committee of the National Democratic Front of South Korea (NDFSK) as saying.
The literature in the name of the Patriotic Fellowship Society depicts a man and woman breaking the concrete wall with fettered hands against the background of the rising sun.
Written in the literature are letters saying that the country will be reunified in near future and that a vigorous struggle should be waged to bring earlier the day when the north and the south will be reunified so that the people can uphold General Secretary Kim Jong Il, the peerlessly great man and the sun of the nation, as the lodestar of national reunification.
Jong Ju Yong and his party leave
Pyongyang, December 17 (KCNA) -- Jong Ju Yong, Honorary Chairman of the Hyun Dai Business Group of South Korea, and his party went back through Panmunjom on December 17.
Song Ho Gyong, vice-chairman of the Korean Asia-Pacific Peace Committee (KAPPC), and officials concerned saw them off with compatriot feelings at Panmunjom.
Right to military action is not monopoly of U.S.
Pyongyang, December 17 (KCNA) -- The U.S. reckless attempt to take the road of a war and exercise military strength is a historic mistake, the attempt that is based on its hegemonistic viewpoint that the DPRK is not endowed with military option and freedom of action, but they are a monopoly of the u.s.
Rodong Sinmun today stresses this in a bylined article today.
We have our own mode of counteraction and Juche-based tactics and strategy, the article says, and goes on:
Our option to defend the dignity of the nation and the sovereignty of the country and our right to self-defensive action are inalienable.
If the U.S. imperialists dare unleash an adventurous war against the DPRK, our People's Army will decisively answer it with Juche-based war method and mode of strike.
It will be too late even if the U.S. hawks realise that they made a mistake and lament their folly, when our capabilities and strength are fully demonstrated in a revolutionary war of justice.
The U.S. imperialists should not think that only the U.S. is endowed with military option and privilege of action. Nor should they act like a "giant" insolent enough to provoke a war without hesitation.
If they do not want to make an irrevocable mistake, they should be mindful of this warning.
This year's successes in film creation
Pyongyang, December 17 (KCNA) -- Many feature films of high ideological and artistic value were produced in Korea this year.
Among them are serials of multi-feature films "the Forest Sways" and "the Nation and Destiny", "Trunks grow from the roots" (two parts), "the Party Membership Card" and other films.
The feature film "the Forest Sways" (parts 3 through 6) gives a truthful depiction of the historical "Arduous March" which had been made by the main unit of the Korean people's revolutionary army for over 100 days from early December of Juche 27 (1938) to the end of march next year under the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung. The film vividly shows the spirit of devoted defence of the leader displayed by the anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters and ties of kinship between the leader and his soldiers.
44 serials of the multi-part feature film "the Nation and Destiny", typical of Korean films, have been produced up to this year since the first serial was created in Juche 81 (1992). Parts 9 through 11 of "Working Class," serials of the film, deal with the heroic struggle of workers in Kangson and with careers of people who covered different paths of life.
"Trunks grow from the roots" depicts young Korean people growing into true patriotic men thanks to the loving care of General Secretary Kim Jong Il who put forward the idea of attaching importance to young people.
Films based on military theme were created this year including "Formation of girls-driven assault planes" and "Pilot Kil Yong Jo." "A family basketball team" and other films based on actual life were also created.
Tens of television films reflecting the spirit of the era were created this year. Among them are "We can not retreat" (4 parts), "Ships go to seas" (parts 4) and "Express train" (2 parts).
Over ten animated cartoons including the popular multi-part one "a Squirrel and a Hedgehog" (parts 8 through 10), "Foot mark of rabbit" and "a Tiger and Three Friends" were created.
Colorful events held abroad
Pyongyang, December 17 (KCNA) -- The 7th anniversary of the election of Kim Jong Il as Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army and the 81st birth anniversary of the great communist revolutionary fighter Kim Jong Suk fall on December 24.
On this occasion colorful events took place in different countries.

U.S. urged to discontinue war provocation moves against DPRK
Pyongyang, December 17 (KCNA) -- The world public expressed full support to the statement of the spokesman for the general staff of the Korean People's Army.
The Congolese Party of Labour said in a statement in the name of the presidium of its political bureau that the U.S. design to keep its forces permanently in the Korean peninsula and east Asia is a challenge to the desire of the Korean people to reunify the country independently and peacefully on the principle of great national unity. It demanded that the United States withdraw its troops and nuclear weapons from South Korea unconditionally without delay.
The Congolese Socialist Party in a statement in the name of a special meeting of its political bureau said that the U.S. new war plan is entirely contrary to the will of the Korean people to reunify the country by means of confederation in accordance with the five-point policy of great national unity. It demanded immediate repeal of the plan.
The Centre of the Indian Trade Unions and the All India Peasants' Union in statements denounced the U.S. imperialists for their new war provocation moves in staging all kinds of military exercises with mobilization of huge armed forces after working out such a plan for the second Korean war as the "operation plan 5027" and strongly demanded that they stop at once all actions of wrecking peace on the Korean peninsula.
The Syrian Arab Union of Writers in a statement said that they support people's Korea that is braving threat of the United States and will always stand on the side of justice against exploitation, oppression, colonialism and robbery.
U.S. sortie and logistic bases will be turned into sea of fire
Pyongyang, December 17 (KCNA) -- The spokesman for the general staff of the Korean People's Army in a statement warned that the target of our strike in the war is not only the U.S. imperialist aggression forces leading the execution of the "operation plan 5027" but also the South Korean authorities intending to serve as their bullet-shields and Japan and all others that offer bases or act servants behind the scenes.
This means that Okinawa and Guam islands, the main bases in carrying out the "operation plan 5027", a plan for a war of aggression on Korea, are no exception.
There are in these bases U.S. armed forces and different types of fighter bombers, reconnaissance planes, warships and nuclear weapons.
In Guam Island in particular, there are a sortie base of strategic bombers and a nuclear submarine base.
These regions were sortie bases and logistic bases of U.S. fighter planes and warships that attacked North Korea during the Korean War.
According to data available, the number of the Japanese aggressor forces who took part in the military operations of the Korean war amounted to more than 25,000 and Japan offered military supplies worth billions of dollars to the United States.
The U.S. imperialists are now turning Okinawa and Guam islands into greater sortie bases and logistic bases than at the time of the Korean War and are seeking to strike Korea as they did at that time.
The U.S. troops in Japan took part in all the war manoeuvres including the team spirit joint military exercises in South Korea. Nuclear-capable B-52 strategic bombers and warships for coastal landing operations flew or sailed from Japanese bases.
The United States could indiscriminately drop bombs and fire shells toward the inviolable land of the DPRK from these bases during the Korean War in the 1950s, but the situation has changed.
We have a powerful means of offensive enough to crush the aggression forces in any region at one stroke.
Vice marshal of the Korean People's Army Jon Jae Son said that "we will take a merciless strike on the enemies' position wherever they may be on the earth and make it a sea of fire."
Full steam ahead for silk thread production
Pyongyang, December 17 (KCNA) - Built on an area of 15,000 square metres, the Huichon Silk Mill in Jagang Province produces hundreds of tons of silk threads annually by using the locally abundant cocoons and the crystal-clear water of the River Chongchon.
The Chongchongang-brand high-quality products are in great demand at home, as well as abroad including China, Japan, Thailand and Singapore.
Chief engineer Kim Hak Gon said that reeling machines with hundreds of spindles each can increase production if the number of rotation is raised.
All the processes ranging from cocoon boiling, supply and washing to thread-soaking are streamlined and controlled automatically.
The mill is equipped with facilities necessary for processing cocoons 100 per cent.
"Our task is enormous. But we are filled with high resolve to fulfil this year's plan through detailed arrangements and full use of the existing equipment," the chief engineer said.
Permanent seat must not be given to Japan
Pyongyang, December 17 (KCNA) -- Japan is now getting overheated with its scheme to become a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
The Japanese reactionaries' general target of the external policy is to get a permanent membership of the UN Security Council.
What they seek in this is to create a favourable international climate for turning Japan into a nuclear giant.
It is said that the amount of plutonium already stockpiled by Japan is enough to manufacture 3,000 atomic bombs, each being tantamount in explosive power to the atomic bomb dropped in Nagasaki.
Japan plans to stockpile 400 tons of plutonium in 30 years to come.
Having produced a large number of warheads, it has developed even vehicles of their delivery. These warheads can be turned into nuclear warheads if they are charged with nuclear substances.
Buoyant with the nuclear ambition, the Japanese militarists need to create an atmosphere under which they can turn Japan into a nuclear giant as they want. In other words, they need the permanent membership of the UN Security Council.
All of the present permanent members are nuclear weapons nations.
The Japanese reactionaries are now trying to occupy a permanent seat in a bid to legally arm Japan with nuclear weapons, turn it into a nuclear giant and thus attain their design for overseas expansion, freely wielding nuclear weapons.
If Japan becomes a permanent member of the UN Security Council, the world will certainly be exposed to greater danger of nuclear war.
Much effort is not needed to guess what catastrophic consequences will arise when sabre-rattling samurais wield nuclear weapons against the world.
The source of calamities must be removed beforehand, and no room must be given to it.
