U.S.--disturber of peace and security on Korean peninsula

Pyongyang, January 25 (KCNA) -- Foreign political and public circles bitterly condemned the U.S. for disturbing peace and security on the Korean peninsula while resorting to the aggressive policy, not fulfilling the DPRK-U.S. agreed framework, though it is four years since its adoption.
The Party for Unity and Progress of Guinea in a statement stressed: The U.S. has long put political, economic, military and diplomatic pressure and all sorts of sanctions on the DPRK in a bid to stifle it. The U.S. is leading the situation to the brink of war by taking issue with the DPRK's launch of an artificial satellite for peaceful purposes and talking about non-existent "underground nuclear facility." The Mt. Paektu Czech-Korean Friendship Association said in a statement that the U.S. has staged joint military exercises with South Korea every year for the purpose of invading the DPRK. The U.S. ambition for great-power chauvinism has reached the climax, the statement noted.
In a statement the Al Ansar Jordan Arab Party said that it is the U.S. mode of politics to achieve "peace" and "security" by means of war if dialogue partner goes against the grain with the U.S., while threatening it with war rackets such as joint military exercises. The Sweden-Korea Friendship Association in a statement stressed that the U.S. must stop military threats at once and lend an ear to the world public calling for making efforts to normalise relations with the DPRK. The general secretary of the All-India Peace and Solidarity Organisation said in a statement that the U.S. must honestly fulfil the DPRK-U.S. joint statement and the DPRK-U.S. agreed framework and immediately take a measure for withdrawing its aggression troops from South Korea.

S. Korean workers' rallies

Pyongyang, January 25 (KCNA) -- More than 5,000 unionists of the Kia Motor Company of South Korea held rallies of general employees and producers for stopping forcible retirement and layoffs, a South Korean newspaper said. The trade union charged that the Hyun Dai Motor Company is going to lay off a lot of workers, while amalgamating the Kia Motor Company. It also said that it will stage a general strike in case the Hyun Dai side avoids a deal for this year's wages.

S. Korean chief executive's sophism

Pyongyang, January 25 (KCNA) -- The present chief executive of South Korea said on Jan. 23 that the "law observation system," a variant of the ideological conversion system, will be continuously imposed upon political prisoners including prisoners of conscience, a Seoul-based radio reported. Those who have a different ideology, too, should comply with the "National Security Law," he said, calling for "keeping laws as laws are told, rights as rights are told" in cooperation with each other. This nonsensical sophism means that people should give up elementary freedom and rights and yield to fascist suppression.

S. Korean "board of audit and inspection" hit for its unfair practice

Pyongyang, January 25 (KCNA) -- The Citizens' Federation for Democratic Society in South Korea on Jan. 21 criticized the "board of audit and inspection" for squandering money wrested from the people, a Seoul-based radio reported. The organisation said that the "board of audit and inspection" has distributed more than 400,000-600,000 won every month to its employees according to their ranks in the name of "funds for special activities" without special ground, spending appropriation. In this regard, it demanded that the "board" open to the public details for "funds for special activities" spent for two years from 1997.

NDFSK denounces U.S. and its followers' war moves against DPRK

Pyongyang, January 25 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the National Democratic Front of South Korea (NDFSK) published a statement on Jan. 19 denouncing the United States and its followers for creating a tense situation in which a war against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea may break out on the Korean peninsula any moment, the Seoul-based radio Voice of National Salvation said.
The statement said: The United States, Japan and the South Korean rulers have repeatedly had adventurous military confabs and let loose a string of outbursts for attack on the DPRK, continuously spreading rumours that the situation is being aggravated due to the north's non-existent "suspected underground nuclear facility" and "launch of a ballistic missile." This is another open declaration that they will ignite the train of a war against the DPRK on the Korean peninsula at any cost. The statement bitterly condemned the U.S. and its followers' reckless war moves against the DPRK as a very dangerous criminal act designed to plunge the Korean nation and all the fellow countrymen into nuclear disaster.
It continued: The United States must ponder over what a miserable end its war provocation against the DPRK will bring upon itself, smashed by the Korean nation, and repeal its criminal nuclear war moves at once and withdraw its troops from South Korea without delay. Japan, too, must control itself if it is not to be chastised as an accomplice of war provocation against the DPRK. The Kim Dae Jung bellicose group must act with discretion, clearly seeing that the treacherous acts of imposing war disaster upon the fellow countrymen in league with outsiders will precipitate their self-destruction.

Korean people's fighting spirit

Pyongyang, January 25 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today stresses it is the traditional ethos of the Korean people to follow up the "arduous march" always with a cheerful advance, a march of victors.
The Korean people have never given way nor stepped back before difficulties and trials, but turned misfortunes into blessings, the paper notes, and says: In the years of the "arduous march" caused by the imperialists' persistent isolation and suffocation moves they not only endured but braved the repeated hardships to win a victory. Their revolutionary spirit of following up the "arduous march" with a cheerful advance is manifested in the fact that they are pushing ahead with all projects in a bold and big way, overcoming all difficulties by their own efforts, bringing about a new great advance in the economic construction and optimistically working with firm confidence in the future.

Rodong Sinmun on pro-reunification patriotic cause of Pomminryon

Pyongyang, January 25 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today dedicates an article to the 8th anniversary of the formation of the north headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification (Pomminryon).
The north headquarters of Pomminryon has regarded the three principles of national reunification, the 10-Point Programme of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation and the Five-point policy of great national unity as a basic principle of its activities and continued to wage the campaigns for national reconciliation, unity and reunification, including the pan-national rally, by firmly strengthening the solidarity with organisations of Pomminryon in South Korea and overseas, a signed article of the paper says, and goes on: With the "grand festival for national reconciliation, unity and reunification" successfully held under the banner of the five-point policy of great national unity put forward by the great leader Kim Jong Il, it put the movement for national reunification on a new high stage. That is a great exploit performed by Pomminryon in the history of the movement of reunification of the nation.
Pomminryon organisations face an important task to make a turning-point in the struggle of national reunification. This is to fully support the struggle of the South Korean people for independence against outside forces and to achieve great unity of the whole nation. All the regional organisations of Pomminryon should continue to push ahead with a vigorous struggle to frustrate the war moves that the South Korean authorities wage, joining hands with outside forces, and to remove the "National Security Law", the "Agency for National Security Planning" and the "Ministry of National Unification," sources of escalating distrust and confrontation between the north and south. They also should work hard for the release of all the illegally-arrested pro-reunification patriots in South Korea, frustration of the authorities' moves for separation, alienation and suppression against pro-reunification patriotic organisations and legalisation of the south headquarters of Pomminryon.

Korean people advancing with optimism

Pyongyang, January 25 (KCNA) -- The Korean people are filled with fighting spirit and optimism to build a powerful nation in the near future in hearty response to the Joint New Year Editorial. The slogans "Let us always be cheerful in thorny road " and "Follow up the 'arduous march' with a cheerful advance " that can be seen in every part of the country reflect the spirit of the Korean people who are full of confidence and optimism.
In recent years, the Korean people have pulled through difficult and harsh ordeals caused by the combined effects of the imperialists' campaign to isolate and stifle the DPRK and the repeated natural disasters. They have suffered from the shortage of electricity, equipment, materials and funds needed for various domains of the national economy and used the substitute food in face of difficult food problem . But they remained firm and optimistic about future. They have overcome difficulties in the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance and created things out of nothing, always being cheerful in thorny road. They developed and launched the artificial satellite "Kwangmyongsong 1" into orbit with their own efforts and technology 100 percent, though they build socialism tightening their belts under the difficult conditions. That fully demonstrated the inexhaustible national power and the spirit of phoenix.
The first-stage project of the Anbyon Youth Power Station was finished. Completion of the building of September 9 Street, April 25 Hotel and other objects gave a major face-lifting to the capital city of Pyongyang. Over 5,000 minor power stations built across the country and foundations laid for activating coal, metal and machine-building and other key industries of the national economy are the precious fruition of the indomitable Korean people's confidence and optimism. The revolutionary faith and optimism are based on the unquestioned trust in General Secretary Kim Jong Il. Led by Kim Jong Il they know no fear of any formidable enemies, and victory is in store for them. This is an unwavering will of the Korean people. The Korean people will always be cheerful even in adversity and let this year mark a turning-point in building a powerful nation with this firm will.

Nature is preserved

Pyongyang, January 25 (KCNA) -- In the DPRK, nature preservation regions are to be found everywhere. One of them is the Cholwon area in the middle of Korea, where sea-birds including red-crowned crane, wild goose, swan and duck live. In recent years, 3,000 hectares in this region inhabited by red-crowned crane have been designated as a colony of National Nature Preservation. Some 70 species of birds migrated to their spring and winter haunts in the Kumya sea-bird reserve. In this country, there has been established a system whereby all reservations are interlinked and scientific research is conducted into nature preservation.

Greetings to Indian President

Pyongyang, January 25 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, sent a message of greetings on January 25 to Indian President K.R. Narayanan on the occasion of the Day of the Republic of India. The message expressed the conviction that friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries will be further strengthened and developed and wished good health and happiness to the Indian President and prosperity to the friendly Indian people.

Overseas Koreans on int'l terrorism of S. Korea

Pyongyang, January 25 (KCNA) -- The European headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification (Pomminryon) issued a statement on January 22 denouncing South Korea's Agency for National Security Planning (ANSP) for having kidnapped Kim Kyong Phil, secretary of the North Korean mission in Germany, on January 13.
The statement says: Through information from the German government authorities and the North Korean mission, the European headquarters of Pomminryon has come to conclude that Kim Kyong Phil and his wife were kidnapped by operatives of the ANSP. The kidnapping had been planned in a meticulous way for years. Choe Chang Dong (former professor of law at Pusan College of Foreign Studies) was infiltrated into Pomminryon for the purposes of disintegration and destruction of the organisation. Choe stole some of computer files of Kim Kyong Phil and transferred them to the ANSP. Han Yong Su, an agent of the ANSP, kidnapped the couple on January 13 with the document as a bait. The Chosun Ilbo Newspaper of South Korea January 17 spread a rumour about the North Korean diplomat's "defection to America." The next day, other mass media of South Korea reported that Kim Kyong Phil asked the U.S. consulate for "asylum."
On January 20, South Korean media quoted a government official as saying that Kim might seek "asylum" in a third country, not the United States. The press reports were incoherent because the incident was not "asylum" but abduction. We strongly warn the South Korean government and the ANSP. If you do not return the innocent couple, we will inform the world public and conscientious-minded people of this fact, and the Kim Dae Jung regime of South Korea will be branded by the international community as a terrorist regime. The incident will be described as a second kidnapping case in east Berlin, and you will be to blame for the consequence. The South Korean regime must immediately release the couple and apologize for the criminal act. We will indict the South Korean regime's international terrorism, informing the German public that this is a second east Berlin case. The South Korean regime must give up despicable terrorism and kidnapping abroad at once.

Mass media urged to ensure objectivity of news reports

Pyongyang, January 25 (KCNA) -- The European headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification issued a statement to mass media in the wake of the missing of a secretary Kim Kyong Phil of the DPRK mission in Berlin.
The statement says: On January 18, all the newspapers and internet of South Korea said all at once that a secretary of the DPRK mission in Berlin and his wife disappeared on January 13, adding that they "took refuge" in the U.S. embassy in Bonn. On January 19 German newspapers and news media reported about the missing based on the news report of South Korea.
The DPRK mission in Berlin lost no time in informing police of the missing. Up to this date, it has not been told by an investigation organ, the Foreign Ministry of Germany and the U.S. embassy that the couple "took refuge" in the U.S. embassy. That is why the DPRK mission is asserting that the missing secretary was abducted by use of force on the part of the "Agency for National Security Planning" ("ANSP") in South Korea.
The statement elaborates on the missing of secretary Kim Kyong Phil, and goes on: When the relevant organ of Germany had no clue as to what happened, the South Korean newspapers and news reports already described the missing as "exile." It is clear to anyone that the missing is a plot of the "ANSP." Worse still, news media of Germany spread the groundless news reports of South Korea, without confirming and covering them on site. We want news media of Germany to ensure objectivity of news reports. The DPRK mission has had direct contacts with the U.S. consulate in the wake of the missing. Officials of the U.S. consulate said that time they never heard that a diplomat and his wife from the north "took refuge" in the territory of the U.S. and added that there was no such fact. According to data available at a church institute in Germany, the Foreign Ministry of Germany and the U.S. embassy replied that they had no fact and evidence that the north's diplomat and his wife "took refuge" in the hand of the U.S.
Judging from the statements of the German and U.S. institutions, we say that the news reports of the South Korean papers that the couple "took refuge" in the U.S. embassy are not true. We, therefore, hold that the abducted couple are still subjected to suffering by the hooligans of the "ANSP" and that the couple who resist, ready to die, might not be out of the boundaries of Germany and Europe. From this point of view, we urgently call upon German and European investigation organs and public opinion to find a hide-out of those who were involved in the abduction of the couple as soon as possible and keep a watchful eye on boundaries of Europe in an effort to prevent the abductors from getting out of the boundaries. It is highly likely that the abducted couple may be murdered by the abductors as a result of failure to discover them as soon as possible.
