Aggressive nature of "joint exercise" condemned

Pyongyang, February 4 (KCNA) -- Spokesmen for the central committees of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea and the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League released statements on Wednesday denouncing the U.S. and the South Korean authorities for their scheme to stage an adventurous anti-north war game called "joint exercise" in April. The statements stressed that this large-scale military drill is intended to unleash a total war against the north with rapid deployment of the U.S. reinforcements from the U.S. mainland to the Korean peninsula and with joint operations of the U.S. troops and the South Korean authorities under the aggressive "operation plan 5027" of the U.S.
The exercise, described by the U.S. and the South Korean authorities as an "annual command post drill," is a second "Team Spirit" joint military exercise, a preliminary war or nuclear test war entirely for a surprise attack on the DPRK, they said. They expressed the iron will and stand of the heroic workers and the five million youths in the DPRK to annihilate all of the U.S. and the South Korean authorities if they persistently launch the joint military exercise against the DPRK and encroach upon its dignity and sovereignty, making much ado about the DPRK's "suspected underground nuclear facility" and "proliferation of ballistic missiles" in defiance of its repeated warnings.

Japan advised to give up its ambition for reinvasion

Pyongyang, February 4 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun February 3 warned that the Japanese authorities had better cool their heads overheated with the ambition for reinvasion, not running unsteady like a balloon. In a signed article entitled "far-fetched argument of fools," the paper said: five months have passed since the DPRK fired an artificial satellite "Kwangmyongsong 1." However, only Japan is maliciously slandering it as a "missile launch." Lurking behind this is an ulterior intention of the Japanese reactionaries. Urged by an ill-intentioned design to revenge its past defeat and realise its old dream of "greater east Asia co-prosperity sphere," Japan is getting more undisguised in its moves to become a military giant and launch into overseas invasion, inviting strong criticism from all parts of the world. So, Japan had to cudgel its brain to ward off this criticism.
At this very juncture, an artificial satellite was launched in the DPRK. Taking this as a golden opportunity, the Japanese reactionaries began to vociferate about "missile threats" from the DPRK. What they seek in this is to bring people to believe that, whether the DPRK launched an artificial satellite or not, Japan is now exposed to "threats by North Korea" and that so it is "essential" for it to "adopt a military counteraction." The disgraceful behaviour of the Japanese reactionaries who do not hesitate to do anything for their aggressive design is being made fun of by the world people.

Japanese reactionaries' scheme to gather information on DPRK

Pyongyang, February 4 (KCNA) -- The Japanese Defense Agency decided on January 31 to dispatch its officials to Japanese embassies in Beijing and Moscow, according to a news report. Yomiuri Shimbun February 1 said this is aimed at intensifying the system of gathering military information on neighboring countries and, particularly, concentrating efforts on collecting information on the situation of North Korea which "draws attention for its 'missile launch' and 'suspected underground nuclear facility'." It is the first time that the Defense Agency dispatched its officials to embassies in countries surrounding the Korean peninsula. This shows that the Japanese reactionaries are putting spurs to information-gathering activities for the purpose of staging a comeback to the Korean peninsula.

S. Korean authorities plan to tighten military tie-ups with Japan

Pyongyang, February 4 (KCNA) -- The South Korean authorities decided to hold another criminal confab with Japan in Tokyo for several days from February 9 to "agree on an issue of regularly" staging naval exercises, according to a radio report from Seoul. Announcing this, they said that they would hold a joint exercise with Japan's maritime "self-defense force" in waters southeast of the Jeju Island this autumn. This proves that the South Korean authorities are toeing the criminal plan of their U.S. and Japanese masters to promote the U.S.-Japan-South Korea triangular military alliance under the "operation plan 5027" against the DPRK.

Rally for vital rights held in S. Korea

Pyongyang, February 4 (KCNA) -- Some 2,500 employees of the Sam Sung Motor Company in South Korea held a rally on January 31 to denounce the company's unreasonable refusal to meet their demands for vital rights, according to a Seoul-based radio. At the rally, 30 members of the emergency measure committee of the Sam Sung Motor Company and some employees had a hair-cutting ceremony in front of their family members in protest against the unreasonable attitude of the company. The emergency measure committee of the L.G. Semiconductor Company on January 30 turned down the company's offer to pay gratuity and declared that all its employees would resign if their demands for job security are not met, said a South Korean newspaper.

Provokers will be given annihilating blows

Pyongyang, February 4 (KCNA) -- Prime Minister Obuchi and major cabinet members of Japan at the budget committee meeting of the house of representatives held on February 1 officially expressed their views that they would expand the "sphere of support of the self-defense forces" for the U.S. troops in order to cope with "a crisis on the Korean peninsula." This is an open revelation of Japan's plan to directly take part in a second Korean War under the signboard of "logistic support" for the U.S. troops in case it breaks out. Up to date, Japan has promised "logistic support" for the U.S. troops under the ambiguous pretext of "coping with incidents around Japan." Now, Japan declares that it will render active "logistic support" including the transport of armed forces, weapons and ammunition when the United States unleashes a war in Korea and the U.S. troops and the South Korean army form "combined forces."
Historically, Japan has been engaged in aggressive acts with the backing of a big country. At the time of the past Korean War, it laid a foundation for a postwar boom, eating "chestnuts baked in flame" under the pretext of "logistic support" for the U.S. troops, and built a springboard for reinvasion by directly taking part in the war of aggression. It is clear that the Japanese reactionaries think that in the second Korean War, too, they can acquire a "windfall" and attain their wild ambition for reinvasion which it has dreamed of for more than 50 years since the Second World War. However, it is nothing but a foolish dream. The Korean people and army have kept tabs on the heinous crimes Japan has committed. If Japan finally takes part in war against the DPRK, it will be made to pay dearly for its crimes and it cannot escape annihilating blows by the Korean People's Army.

"Cooperation" will lead to destruction

Pyongyang, February 4 (KCNA) -- The United States, Japan and South Korea will reportedly hold a "working-level consultative meeting on security" in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, for two days from February 12 to intensively discuss the "issue" of the DPRK. The point of their discussion is none other than a "policy cooperation programme to prevent the DPRK from developing nuclear weapons and missiles". The fact shows that South Korea and Japanese reactionaries are recklessly trying to attain their sinister political purposes by following the U.S. policy to stifle the DPRK. Now the U.S. bellicose elements are seeking to increase the military spending in the new fiscal year, crying that "the DPRK's nuclear weapons and missiles" are the matter of their concern. On the other hand, they are tenaciously vociferating about the DPRK's "threat" in the international arena.
This cannot be pardoned because it is a foolish attempt to tarnish the image of the peace-loving DPRK and strengthen international "cooperation" in isolating and stifling the DPRK. Therefore, we consider that the DPRK-U.S. relations are, in essence, political confrontation in ideology, ideal and system, not "nuclear" or "missile" confrontation. There is no need to say that ideology is sure to win in confrontation between ideology and strength. Though the United States, Japan and South Korea cooperate in their foolish attempt to stifle the DPRK's socialist system for hundreds of years, they will get nothing from it. We will not abandon our independent right but act in compliance with our independent resolution. Those who engage themselves in criminal "cooperation" against the DPRK's firm will and resolution will not escape severe punishment.

Dangerous war gamble reminiscent of "Team Spirit"

Pyongyang, February 4 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today describes the projected large-scale "RSOI" joint military maneuvers of the U.S. and the South Korean hawks as a premeditated provocation aimed at rendering the situation on the Korean peninsula strained on purpose and, furthermore, unleashing a war against the DPRK at any cost. The news analyst says: Describing the maneuvers as "defense exercise" to cope with non-existent "threat" from the north and "annual command post drill" is a shameless deception. The U.S. and the South Korean hawks, who have already made a time frame for a war against the north, are now watching for a chance to invade it. It is ridiculous of them to advertise "defense exercise." The clumsy advertisement is not enough to mislead public opinion and conceal the aggressive and dangerous nature of the "RSOI" maneuvers.
The typical anti-DPRK attack exercises are aimed to send huge U.S. reinforcements to the Korean frontline from the U.S. mainland as quickly as possible and to practice and complete method of warfare with which to make an "all-round northward invasion" through "coordinated operations" of the U.S. aggression forces and the South Korean army. The war game is, in essence, a replica of the "Team Spirit" joint maneuvers which featured three stages of deployment, attack and withdrawal. With the hawks at home and abroad resorting to a military adventure more zealously, the DPRK cannot but adopt a more powerful self-defensive countermeasure. The U.S. and the South Korean authorities should give up the provocative anti-DPRK war scenario at once. In case they dare unleash a war against the DPRK, ignoring the warnings of the north, they should be responsible entirely for all the ensuing consequences.

Honorary chairman of S. Korean Hyun Dai Business Group passes through Panmunjom

Panmunjom, February 4 (KCNA) -- Jong Ju Yong, honorary chairman of the Hyun Dai Business Group of South Korea, and his party headed for in Pyongyang via Panmunjom on Feb. 4. They were greeted at Panmunjom by officials concerned with kindred feelings.

People live in prime

Pyongyang, February 4 (KCNA) -- An old woman Ri Jong Nyo living in Tongdaewon district, Pyongyang, received her centennial birthday table some time ago. She has lived for one whole century from the end of the feudal society of the Ri dynasty up to date through the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule. She is now the head of a great family composed of more than 100 descendants including sons, daughters and great-great-grandsons. Her physical condition is equal to that of the youth. She did farming by the age of 86 and is now doing household chores.
The DPRK has many long-livers as her. In recent years, many centenarians across the country received their centennial birthday tables. Among them are Jon Pong Hak in Unhung county, Ryanggang Province, Kim Ryong Ok in Thaethan county, South Hwanghae Province, and Pak Nyo Dok in Chongjin, North Hamgyong Province. Not only macrobians of over 100 years but also many persons aged above 60 and 70 are as vigorous as young people. Pae Jae Bok, senior instructor of the Silk Industry Management Bureau of the Ministry of Light Industry, plays a leading role in basketball and other sports games and art performances although he is 62 years old this year. A 76-year-old man Jong Je residing in Mangyongdae district, Pyongyang, has done mountaineering exercises every morning without a letup.
The long-livers are unanimous in saying that the popular health policy of the socialist state, diligent labour, balanced diet and optimistic life are the secret of longevity. The DPRK has sufficient social conditions for the longevity of the people. All the people receive medical treatment free of charge thanks to the universal free medical services and section doctor system. They are taking an active part in labour suited to their physical conditions and ability without any worry about jobs.

"ULD" challenges "NCNP" in S. Korea

Pyongyang, February 4 (KCNA) -- South Korea's "United Liberal Democrats"(ULD) led by Kim Jong Pil on February 1 challenged the present chief executive and the "National Congress for New Politics" by unilaterally confirming "outlines of the constitution based on parliamentary system of government," according to a radio report from Seoul. This confirmation was made at the plenary meeting of the "committee for promoting the parliamentary system of government" affiliated with the "ULD". The "outlines" defined the "Prime Minister" as "person with real authority" of the regime and the "President" as "symbolic head of state". The essence of "outlines" is that power must be transferred to Kim Jong Pil. It is as good as a sort of a declaration of war against the present chief executive.

School for disabled soldiers

Pyongyang, February 4 (KCNA) -- A small school for disabled soldiers is in Sinuiju, a border city in the northwest of the DPRK. Drawing the attention of people, the school is composed of cosy 2 or 3 storied buildings in an area of more than 35,000 square metres. Former soldiers who were disabled while serving at defence posts study at this school. The school has different courses including planning and statistics, financial bookkeeping and machine-building and ten-odd research rooms. It also has good education conditions including a laboratory and practice factory.
At this cradle of learning, disabled soldiers receive education suited to the level of their incapacitation, taste, pre-enrollment career and aptitude. In the course of this, they prepare themselves to be competent native cadres. It represents the warm love and moral sense of obligation of President kim Il sung for the people. It was built in July 1951 when the Fatherland Liberation War was at its height. The President visited a hospital of the People's Army in the rear in November 1950 when he acquainted himself with lives of soldiers wounded in action and took care of their future like their real parent. Thus, a cabinet resolution was adopted for the party and state to give education to wounded soldiers in a responsible way and the school was built for the first time in the history of war. The President visited the school on June 21, 1952, breaking through war flames, and said that disabled soldiers were valuable assets of the country. He warmly encouraged them to study hard and live optimistically, not losing courage.
Since then, he has paid particular concern to disabled soldiers' health whenever an opportunity presented itself. He took measures to improve their dietary life, supply them free with daily necessities including school uniforms, textbooks and school things and grant scholarships to all students and even grants-in-aid to married students. He also repeatedly took measures to give sufficient artificial limbs and special medical services to them. Thus, the state has granted disabled soldiers money for tonics and different kinds of subsidies according to the level of their incapacitation every year. There are sanatoriums specially for them in famous spots. In recent years, the economy of the DPRK has undergone great difficulties. However, disabled soldiers are studying and working to their heart's contents amid growing state and public interest, keeping flowers of the revolution in full bloom.

Socialist society developing on strength of ideology

Pyongyang, February 4 (KCNA) -- The Korean people's socialism is just the great leader Kim Jong Il's ideology, socialism of Juche, and Korean socialism is a society that develops on the strength of this ideology. Rodong Sinmun today stresses this in a signed article: It goes on: Socialism is the highest level of independent ideology and it plays a decisive role in letting the popular masses fully discharge responsibility and role as the master of socialist society. The ideology is an ideological and moral source with which the popular masses can fight vigorously with firm faith in socialism. It is also very instrumental in encouraging them to pull through difficulties by their own efforts in the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance and fortitude. It is the basis of unity of the popular masses around the party and the leader, in one mind and one purpose.
It leads the people to realize that socialist society is the superior and most advanced society which is fundamentally different from all exploiting societies and that only under the socialist system can the popular masses live a worthy life, enabling them to throw in their lot with socialism in any adversity. Socialism is collectivism. A source of the superiority and potentials of socialism is collectivism. Socialism demands that people value society, the collective and revolutionary comrades more than themselves and share life and death, sweets and bitters, helping one another forward. Potentials of socialism find expression in the fact that the Korean people are ready to be human bombs and suicide attackers in devoted defence of Kim Jong Il and the noble communist traits of self-sacrifice for society, the collective and revolutionary comrades are further displayed as days go by.

What is target of arrow by Asian version of NATO?

Pyongyang, February 4 (KCNA) -- The process of integration of military forces, which is based on the U.S.-Japan-South Korea triangular military alliance, has been sped up at full throttle. This mirrors the U.S. attempt to militarily stifle the DPRK, a socialist fortress, and, furthermore, invade and dominate the Asian continent, says Rodong Sinmun in a commentary today. Denouncing the "new Asia-pacific security strategy" on the part of the United States as a war strategy aimed at invading the Asian countries, the news analyst gives an account of the reason why the triangular military alliance is the entity of the Asian version of NATO.
The United States, along with Japan and South Korea, is calling in question the DPRK's launch of a satellite and kicking up a row over the non-existent "suspected underground nuclear facility" in a bid to find an excuse and justification for a war of aggression and tighten military tie-ups. Their real object is to secure military power for aggression on the DPRK and for exclusive domination over the Asian and pacific region. Big powers are amassed in this region unlike Europe, Middle East and South America, which are believed still to be potential enemies of the United States. The United States felt the need of strong military power to contain these potential enemies by force and of a military alliance system to back it. That is why in decided to rig up Asian version of NATO.
No doubt, its arrow is aiming at all Asia-pacific countries including big powers in the region as well as the DPRK. Therefore, the Asian people are alertly watching the ill-boding military moves of the U.S., Japan and South Korea.

Acupoint diagnosis and control

Pyongyang, February 4 (KCNA) -- Kyongrak researchers at the Korea General Hospital of Koryo Medicine have succeeded in making an acupoint diagnosis and control device. The portable device stimulates the skin of the sick, but bothers them less. It automatically controls the strength of stimulation.

Message of sympathy to Colombian President

The United States, along with Japan and South Korea, is calling in question the DPRK's launch of a satellite and kicking up a row over the non-existent "suspected -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, sent a message of sympathy on Feb. 3 to Colombian President Andres Pastrana Arango as regards big damage caused by an earthquake in some areas of Colombia. The message expressed deep sympathy and consolation with the people in the afflicted areas. It also expressed the belief that under the leadership of the Colombian President the government and people of Colombia will heal the consequence of the earthquake damage at an early date and the people in the afflicted areas will enjoy a stable life.
